Vallel to Meghan

The sun was shining brightly in Marsember. Sabrina glanced out the window of the Music Box and smiled as a group of children ran past the store, shouting playfully. She turned and looked around the store for a moment. Everything seemed in order and there were no customers. She looked outside once more and then went to get her stool from behind the counter, carrying it to sit just outside the door to the shop. She lifted her face to soak in the afternoon sunshine and took a seat watching the people pass by. After a few moments she focused her attention to the sheet of music in her hand.

After a while she felt a soft tug on her shirt and looked over the sheet of music and smiled. "Well hello there Emily. How are you today?" The little girl smiled, her face beaming bright. "I'm fine Miss Brina. How are you?" Sabrina chuckles and patted the little girl's head. "I am just fine thank you Emily. Can I do something for you little one?" Emily looked down, the toe of her shoe digging into the dirt, suddenly becoming shy. Sabrina grinned and tapped her on the top of the head. Emily looked up. "Well mama says not to bother you when you are working. Are you working Miss Brina?" "Well I am Emily, but I might be able to fulfill your request and work at the same time." Sabrina's eyes twinkled. "Could you tell me a story," Emily's eyes looked hopeful. Sabrina laughed and placed her sheet music in her lap. "Well I suppose I could do that for you Emily." Emily squealed and turned to run off. Sabrina laughed and shook her head watching the little girl run off. A minute later she returned with two boys that looked to be her age, in tow. Sabrina smiled as the children settled on the ground looking up at her expectantly. She nodded and looked thoughtful for a moment and then began.

"Once upon a time in a land far from here there lived a beautiful princess...." Sabrina's voice began to flow and an image shimmered in front of the children. The image was of rolling hills and a large white castle. The children watched with awe as the image changed as Sabrina told the story. After a few minutes Sabrina was fully focused on telling the story and creating the images for the children. She didn't notice the people stopping to watch and listen as well. "And the prince took the princess to his land, and they lived happily for the rest of their lives." The images faded away as the flow of Sabrina's voice wafted away on the breeze. The children clapped and Sabrina flushed as she noticed the small crowd that had gathered. She promised the children she would tell the story again the next week.

Gathering her stool and music Sabrina went back into the Music Shop and put both behind the counter. She heard the bell over the door ring and looked up to see Emily's mother enter the shop. "Hello Mrs. Thomas," Sabrina said pleasantly. The woman smiled as she approached the counter. "Hello Sabrina dear. Emily was just telling me about your story, and I wanted to make sure the children were not getting in your way." Sabrina smiled. "Oh no Mrs. Thomas. I had no customers and very much enjoy telling them stories." The woman nodded and smiled warmly at Sabrina. "I'll let them come back next week then, as I hear you are having another story time." Sabrina chuckled and nodded. "Please do." "You are a good girl Sabrina," said Mrs. Thomas. "It's nice to have young people like you around in times like this." Sabrina flushed at the praise and nodded. She watched the older woman leave the shop and turned to sit.

It became a regular event that each Saturday afternoon Sabrina would have a story time outside the Music Box, and on days when the weather was not bad the children would sit inside the shop. After a time adults would join the crowd of children. Sabrina enjoyed the time as much as everyone else.
