Vallel to Meghan

Meghan sat at a table in the middle of a heavily crowded tavern. There were people standing arm to arm all around her. She sat and sipped ale looking around at the crowd of people. She didn't move or say a word, and no one seemed to notice her. After about 20 minutes the room and people shimmered and disappeared, and Meghan was left sitting alone in an empty room. Sissra walked in through a side door and Meghan looked up at her. "The woman at the left end of the bar, "she said. Sissra smiled and nodded. "Very good Meghan. I am impressed with your progress." Meghan smiled softly and nodded.

It had been almost two months since she had left Marsember and come to the castle with Sissra. Since then Sissra and Mysteria had spent almost every waking minute teaching her how to control and use her empath and psionic abilities. Between that, taking care of Abagail and visiting with Beth she had little time to sleep, or be alone. She walked from the room with Sissra to find Beth and Abagail. "You are thinking about home," Sissra said, looking sidelong at her. Meghan nodded, studying the ground as she walked. "Do you want to go back," Sissra asked her. Meghan thought for a moment before she answered. "I do. I miss everyone." She smiled softly. "Some more than others. I have felt Abagail missing them to. Mostly Michelle and Jaret, and Kevil some. I think it has caused me to think more about them." Sissra nodded and they continued to walk. "Are you ready," she asked, looking back to Meghan again. She took longer to think this time.

In the beginning she thought she would never be able to learn everything Sissra wanted to teach her. But as time went, and she began to study, she realized that it was not the learning specific things she could do with her abilities, but being confident that she could learn them. She came to know herself in a way that she never though possible. And now, on the other side of that knowledge, she knew that she was a stronger person.

They turned a corner and Meghan smiled seeing Abagail and Beth. Abagail was laughing at Beth, and waving her hands around. She was still small for being five months old, but she could roll over easily, which she seemed to enjoy to no end. Meghan reached and picked her up, raising her up into the air. Abagail giggled and waved her hands. "Ma," she said. Meghan smiled. It was something Abagail had recently begun doing, and Meghan loved hearing her. Beth smiled at Meghan and Abagail and looked over to Sissra. Sissra smiled at the young girl and nodded gently. Beth skipped off to the library. Meghan sat with Abagail in her lap and bean to softly talk to the little girl. Sissra watched them for just a moment before disappearing.

Meghan watched as Abagail held a soft block in her hand and gently chewed on it. She hugged the baby close and began to softly sing to her. After a moment she stopped and laughed quietly. "I know I don't have as good a voice as she does little one. But she is not here." Abagail reached up and grabbed some of Meghan's hair. Meghan gently pulled the baby's hand away and began to rock her. Thoughts of Michelle filled her mind. She wondered how things would be between them when she went back. She looked down at Abagail, who was quickly falling asleep, and for the first time she began to think about going home.
