* Glossaria walks to Loria and Kevil's house in late afternoon, when the heat of the day begins to wane. She knocks, and waits nervously, one hand unconsciously covering her abdomen. <Kevil> ::Kevil's voice precedes him, a resonance of song that vibrates through the door.:: ...waiting for your ki- ::as the door opens, the song stops:: Glossaria! What brings you to my door, sweet angel? Please, do come in! May I offer you refreshment? ::he waves her through:: <Glossaria> ::blinks in surprise, and steps into the house:: Yes, please, that would be lovely. Just a little juice... and... perhaps a sandwich? <Kevil> Certainly. Join me in the kitchen - it is Mistress Ree's afternoon off... ::he leads the way to the kitchen and pours her some juice before beginning to hunt up sandwich ingredients.:: <Glossaria> Oh! I didn't intend for you to... you can cook? <Kevil> ::raises an eyebrow at her as he pulls a knife from the block:: I would not think to hire out as a chef, by any means, but... I lived some years with Zoya. Would not *you* learn to cook somewhat, if only in self-defense? ::he grins and begins to slice a loaf of bread:: Though I doubt that a sandwich is properly defined as "cooking." <Glossaria> ::smiles a little and takes a chair, sipping her juice as she watches him coo-- er, assemble ingredients:: I confess, I have never had Mistress Zoya's cooking, although I *have* learned to cook... well, a little. The Kitchen does most of the cooking for us. <Glossaria> ::glancing around with a faint furrow to her brow:: Where is everyone? <Kevil> And you are the better for that lack, I assure you... ::grins:: Mistress Ree, as I said, is enjoying the afternoon off. I would not presume to guess at her precise whereabouts. Diya is off hunting. Loria felt the need of some fresh air, and as I have a commission to fulfill, she graciously took Aylin and Shavyl to the park to play so that I could work uninterrupted. <Glossaria> Oh... Loria is out, then. ::looks rueful:: And now *I'm* keeping you from your commission. <Kevil> Not at all; it is nearly finished. I only needed an hour free of the twins' constant demands for my attention... ::he smiles fondly:: Was it Loria you came to see? Is there a message I may give her? ::places the sandwich before her:: <Glossaria> I... well... ::unaccountably, she blushes, and buys herself a moment of thought by picking up the sandwich and biting into it neatly:: <Kevil> ::leans against the counter and crosses his arms, watching her bemusedly:: <Glossaria> ::chewing carefully and swallowing, a mischievous light gleaming in her eye as she looks up at him again:: Yes, there is a message you might convey to her, if you would. Kindly tell her that, when she has a moment, her brother would like to elicit her advice on parenting methods. <Kevil> Her advice on- ::his black eyes sparkle with repressed laughter:: May I offer my congratulations? <Glossaria> ::smiles:: You may... helasavin? ::cocking her head:: Did I infer the correct term? <Kevil> Indeed. ::he hugs Gloss tightly and kisses her cheek:: The Bright Lady smile upon you, angel... How long have you known? <Glossaria> Not long. I was to the midwife's last week, and told Vallel on our anniversary. ::smiling and putting a hand on her abdomen:: I'm in my sixth week, now. <Kevil> Does... Have you told Zoya? <Glossaria> ::nods:: At the beginning of this week. ::smiling a little:: She was very happy for me. <Kevil> ::laughs and shakes his head:: That's two forfeits... <Glossaria> Forfeits? ::cocking her head:: <Kevil> ::looks mildly sheepish, but his lips twitch with amusement:: My circle and I have expressed certain... opinions, concerning such things as timing of conceptions, and the reactions of certain others... ::he winks at her:: I, alas, am now in error on at least two counts. <Glossaria> ::smiles wider:: I fear I gave you up. Mistress Zoya will no doubt inform you, when you next see her, that she *has* changed since you last travelled together. <Glossaria> And when did *you* think I would conceive? Bearing in mind, of course, that it was not a matter entirely up to me. <Kevil> ::snorts, amused:: As she has told me on nearly every meeting since I came to Cormyr... <Kevil> I thought you would wait some few years more, I confess. I had laid my wager on Miss Mandeil. ::mock-sighing:: Never wager on matters of conception with a priestess of the Blessed Mother... <Glossaria> ::looking a little sheepish:: I *am* sorry. I did try to withhold your identity, but she raised her eyebrows at me. <Glossaria> Tarri? But she's not even wed yet! <Kevil> ::shrugs:: I have not yet heard that the absence of a wedding ring makes one less fertile... <Glossaria> That is to say-- I know that conception is possible, and quite permissible out of wedlock... but still, she was raised in Khymrych. I believe certain traditions will influence her choices in such matters. <Glossaria> ::her lips twitching:: And she *is* a healer. Trained by an herbalist, even. <Kevil> So Loria said, as well. I thought perhaps only she had not marked the girl's desire for- Well, and I shall owe her a forfeit for that, and Diya one for the other. ::chuckles:: Though it would be very like Diya to delay collecting his forfeit, only to tease me with its existence. <Glossaria> ::laughing a little:: Master *Diya* outguessed you about Mistress Zoya? <Kevil> ::holds up a finger:: Ah, now... Diya's instincts for people are very good. And he has no memory of the younger Zoya to befuddle him, d'va? <Glossaria> I concede the point. Although I was not aware that he was so adept at reading people... ::looks thoughtful for a moment:: So. What other wagers are in place, if I may ask? I feel a strong desire to... how is it? "root for the underdog," if you will forgive a somewhat invidious comparison to Mistress Lisl. Though as I consider the matter, she would hardly be the underdog... more likely the pack alpha... "overdog?" Hm. ::shakes her head:: <Kevil> ::laughs:: I have taken my share of prizes, never fear. The current wagers hang on Loria's delivery, come spring - whether it is Diya or I who are the sire, and whether it will be twins again. ::smiles conspiratorially:: Loria glares quite wildly if we dare to suggest the possibility of three... <Glossaria> Triplets? Oh, dear. That seems awfully impractical... after all, humans only have the two mammary glands... ::sighs and puts her hands on her stomach:: My family tends to high multiples, but I don't believe I'm... equipped for such, now. One is all I need, truly. I hope I can carry it to term... ::bites her lip:: <Kevil> ::gently cups Glossaria's chin and lifts it:: Angel - I should be the last to command another not to worry, d'va? But truly, this is not a thing for which to hold much concern. Your god may have little care for the difficulties of bearing a child, but your husband's goddess will surely watch over the child that is his, d'va? Her flock is not so great that she can dismiss any lightly. <Kevil> Ask Loria, if you will - she has told me so often enough. Khymrych, in the last years, has had a steadily lowering incidence of such things. <Glossaria> ::giving a sigh and a nod:: Aye, such is my hope. ::small, rueful smile:: Although, as She once told me, I *do* ask the difficult questions... well. It's useless to fret over what I cannot control, although my emotions are increasingly difficult to control, these days. <Kevil> ::grins:: Spoken like a true breeding woman! <Glossaria> ::chuckles:: I believe the common phrase is, "a woman of true breeding," is it not? <Kevil> ::laughs:: Not in this case... <Glossaria> ::looking up at Kevil appealingly:: Do you think... you've been through it once. Would *you* talk to Vallel about... what you went through, before the twins? So he might know what to expect from me? I hardly know what to expect, myself. <Kevil> I will speak with him if you wish it, angel. For the good it will do him. ::grins:: Perhaps I will share with him the secret of where to find the best chocolates... <Glossaria> ::smiles:: I don't believe I would mind the occasional chocolate. But in the meantime... ::draining her glass:: I should let you return to your work. Mostly finished is not *all* finished, and I can visit again when Loria has returned. I wish to consult with her, as well. ::pausing:: Would it be terribly unmannered of me to take the sandwich? <Kevil> ::smiles:: Not at all. Please - I would not be so rude as to take food from the mouth of a babe, even through the proxy of its mother. ::kisses her cheek again:: I know Loria will be thrilled by the news. Expect to see her on your doorstep some few moments after I have passed it along. ::he winks:: <Glossaria> ::giggles:: Tell her I'll have the Kitchen prepare a... "light" snack, against her coming. Thank you, Kevil. ::hugging him:: |
