* Orlann turns to Tarri, his eyes stunned and moving towards angry. <Orlann> Miss tarri, I... reckon we need to talk. * Tarri blinks, startled by Orlann's formality and anger. "I... All right." She sits carefully at the table. * Orlann eyes her solemnly, then leans against the kitchen counter, crossing his arms over his chest. "How d'you reckon I'm to look after you when I don't rightly know the dangers y're in?" <Tarri> You mean Lisl? She's my friend, Orlann, not a danger. <Orlann> ::shakes his head dismissively:: I don't mean Miss Lisl. I reckon if she meant harm t'ya, she'd have done't already. <Tarri> What are you talking about, then? <Orlann> I'm talkin' 'bout danger inherent in bein' her friend. Like tonight - what if I'd had a cut? I ain't sayin' she'd bite ya, but it is contagious. An y'all spar together... wouldn't be too hard fer y'to catch it, even accidental-like. <Tarri> Oh. ::she draws a breath:: I'd thought of that. But they say a priest can cure you, if you're infected, and Lisl's good friends with Lady Natovna... Anyway, she's *very* careful. It's not like she's teaching me bladework. Just bare-handed stuff, and some staves. <Tarri> And what was I supposed to tell you? Without betraying her secret? <Orlann> ::shakes his head:: An' what'll happen iffen someone *does* come lookin' for her? She said it herself, monster-huntin' ain't exactly unheard of. If she's with you when that happens, will y'stand aside? <Tarri> ::looks acutely uncomfortable:: I guess that'd depend on the circumstances... I don't have any illusions about my abilities as a fighter. <Orlann> ::sighs:: It ain't possible to avoid all dangers. I know that, even iffen I'd rather not. But she *is* a danger t'you, even if she don't mean to be. <Tarri> ::nods reluctantly:: I know... But she's still my friend. * Orlann leans over and puts one hand on Tarri's shoulder, looking into her eyes. "I know. An' I ain't sayin' who can be friends or no. But *be on guard*. I cain't guard you 'gainst dangers I don't know of." <Tarri> I try, 'Lann. ::half-smiling, nervously:: It's what she's been trying to beat into me for the last year and more, anyhow... <Orlann> ::nods slowly:: 'specially now. Words ain't become deeds, yet, but it may. I cain't protect you from everythin', but it'd kill me iffen somethin' were to happen to you. You know that, don't you? <Tarri> ::touches his cheek:: I hope you're exaggerating... You can't be with me all the time, you know. <Orlann> ::shrugs:: How many times y'expect I c'n rebuild m'life? I lost everythin' once. I don't reckon I can do't again. * Tarri puts her arms around Orlann's neck and hugs him tightly. "I'll be as careful as I can, love, I promise, if you'll promise the same. I don't want to lose you, either." <Orlann> ::nods:: As careful as can be... <Tarri> ::bites her lip:: You're- You're not mad, are you, that I didn't tell you about Lisl? <Orlann> I reckon not... I'd rather've known, but... I cain't blame y'for keepin' a secret yer asked t'keep. <Tarri> Well, I'm glad you know now... <Orlann> ::kisses the top of her head:: I reckon I best have a chat with Miss Lisl, next I see her. She looked right worried, just now. <Tarri> ::nods:: Wouldn't you be? She just put her life in your hands, you know. <Orlann> I won't be tellin' on her. No matter what feelin's I had 'bout werewolves in general, *Lisl* ain't done nothin'. Wouldn't be right of me... <Tarri> ::laughs softly:: You're recovering faster than *I* did. I spent *days* walking around in a daze. <Orlann> Cain't act against m'nature, darling. An' what's right is right. ::grins down at her:: Didn't mean to get you in a right state 'bout this, but I... just worry 'bout you. <Tarri> I know you do. I try not to go *too* far out of my way to make it harder on you... ::she grins impishly, then kisses his cheek:: <Orlann> ::snorts:: Really? I reckon I thought you was doin' it all on purpose... <Tarri> ::solemnly:: Oh, I am. I have to make sure you still love me, don't I? * Orlann laughs. "You are a bad, bad woman." <Tarri> ::grins:: You love me for it... Or maybe it's for the pie... Sometimes, it's hard to tell. |
