* Summer is pacing around the bar area like a caged animal. She's tugging lightly on her braid as she paces. <Aeryn> ::The door clicks slightly and swings open just enough for Aeryn to slip through. Pulling his hood back, he smiles:: Good evening, Summer. * Summer glances over and smiles seeing Aeryn. She seems almost overly excited to see him. "Hello!" * Aeryn pulls off his cloak and hangs it over the back of a chair with his customary neatness. Glancing at her, he asks sympathetically, "Restless again?" <Summer> ::nods:: I want to go outside. I miss the grass and the sun. ::she sighs and falls into a chair:: I swear once I get out of here I am going to stay outside for a week. <Aeryn> ::nods slightly:: Aye, I can understand. I miss the forest, too. ::he grins at her as he takes a chair:: Although if you truly wish to stay outside for a week I would advise rain gear. <Aeryn> One more week is all that should remain, if the Goddess shines upon us. Then, if you wish, I would gladly introduce you to the forest. ::he smiles at her:: Mielikki is a human deity, after all. <Summer> I'd like that ::she smiles:: I just want to be able to go practice where I am not so worried about hurting anyone or setting anything on fire. <Aeryn> ::rubs his chin lightly:: Aye, that reminds me. I had been meaning to ask you about your skills with magic. * Summer nods. "Ask away." <Aeryn> For our little...diversion...next week, what spells might you have that would be of use? Both for the initial distance attack and for contingencies? <Aeryn> This is mostly so we can plan how to act if something does not go right. If I have a better idea of what you are capable of... <Summer> I also know a sort of healing spell. I can transfer pain, and wounds, from a person to myself. So that will help if Val gets hurt. * Aeryn raises an eyebrow. "And taking on the wounds of another will help in what way?" <Summer> Well Val is going to be the one doing the real damage. Someone's got to protect him, yes. <Aeryn> ::frowns:: I thought he would actually be inside the drydock, and not outside with us at all? <Summer> Oh. I guess I did not hear that part. I really only heard what was said towards the end. But he can't go in alone. I mean what if something happens to him right away, then the plan is kind of shot isn't it? <Aeryn> ::nods:: Aye, it would be. Which is why he will not be going in alone. We, however, are not to be accompanying him, but rather to distract attention from his group from outside. <Summer> Oh ::she nods thinking again:: <Aeryn> Although the fine details of the plan are still in the making. <Summer> Well OK. I know some distance and some melee. ::She ticks off on her fingers as she speaks:: Acid splash, electric jolt, launch bolt, forcewave, ice dagger and scatterspray are all distance spells, from as close as 20 feet up to as far away as 100. * Aeryn smiles. It is not a nice smile. "Sounds formidable indeed. Do any of those have limitations, or lesser damage?" <Summer> Humm... well for the bolt and dagger ones I need to have bolt and daggers. So when I run out they do as well. Other than that really just intensity. The harder and faster I have to cast the more quickly I tire, hence the weaker the spell becomes. <Aeryn> ::nods slowly:: I see...what about those with an area effect, that might be able to subdue several bowmen at once? <Summer> Scatterspray is a area effect. Also one called cloud of bewilderment. Then there is snowball swarm, which is cold damage in about a ten-foot radius. <Aeryn> Incapacitating damage? <Summer> ::she nods:: If hit hard enough. <Aeryn> ::nods:: And, although we should not need it, close-range spells? <Summer> A sleep spell ::she pauses thoughtfully:: And the one I used on you. * Aeryn twitches his hand unconsciously. "Aye, I see. And your ranged spells can be used at close distances? Or only from afar?" <Summer> ::nods:: Both <Aeryn> ::smiles broadly:: That sounds very good indeed. Now, however, we come to a more important question. ::he sits forward in his chair and rests his elbows on the table:: * Summer raises an eyebrow. <Aeryn> ::level look:: Why was a lady with such formidable talent so reluctant to offer her help? While your strength lasts, you are more formidable for the job in question than I am. * Summer nods and lowers her eyes to the floor. "I was so eager to help. I guess I didn't stop to think where my talents really lay, but more what *I* wanted to do." She looks back to Aeryn. "I wanted to show him I could help. That I could do something." She frowns and looks away again. "Instead I just made him doubt I can do anything at all but make a mess of things." <Summer> I didn't want to make the same mistake twice. Besides I didn't think he would accept me helping. * Aeryn reaches across the table to touch her hand lightly. "He has much on his mind, with his loved ones captive and sick. And you were not the only one to make a mistake. We did, too, and paid for it." <Aeryn> In neither case was the mistake really ours, for they knew we were coming. * Summer looks up at Aeryn. "Yes, but you didn't see the way he looked at me. He was so angry." She shakes her head and then shrugs. "I know. I will do everything I can to help." <Aeryn> ::nods:: The only lesson one should draw from the past is not to repeat a mistake. But you can *not* let that stop you from acting. <Summer> ::she nods and then smiles, squeezing Aeryn's hand:: Thank you. <Aeryn> ::flushes very slightly:: Think nothing of it. You have talent you can use, Summer, and do not doubt yourself, even when you fail. Everyone fails some of the time. <Summer> ::nods:: You are right. ::she pauses and then looks to his hand, pulling it closer and turning it over so she can inspect it:: How is your hand feeling? <Aeryn> ::shrugs slightly:: It is of no moment. I am used to the rigors of the forest, and she is a hard taskmistress. ::he turns his other hand palm-up to show calloused skin:: <Summer> Oh...good ::she releases his hand and stands:: Well it's getting dark. You should probably be heading back. * Aeryn nods, standing as well. "You are right, of course. Have a good evening, Summer." He smiles gently at her as he moves to fetch his cloak. * Summer follows him to the door. "You too, and be safe." |
