* Kevil strides through the late afternoon streets, his face dark with anger. He turns down the alley that leads to the Hall and disappears into a shadow until the street is clear enough for him to lay a hand against the Hall's dark door. "Let me in." Almost reluctantly, a faint *snick* sounds, and Kevil slips inside. <Kevil> Summer? ::he looks quickly around the deserted common room, then climbs the stairs to the sleeping rooms two at a time.:: Summer! Diman's eyes, girl, where are you? * Summer opens the door to her room just a bit and peeks out. Not until Kevil crosses her line of sight does she opens he door the rest of the way. She's wearing the same dress she was the previous night and her hair is still in a braid but is a mess. "Kevil?" she whispers. * Kevil spins on his heel to confront her. He grabs her arm and pushes her back into the room, closing the door firmly behind him. "What in the Bright Lady's name did you *DO*?" * Summer gasps and shrinks back away from Kevil. She pulls roughly away from his grip. "I went to the Mage School." She turns away from him and moves to sit weakly in the chair next to the bed in her room. <Kevil> You let them *see* you! Your picture is all over the damned city! <Summer> ::her eyes widen a bit and then she nods:: On the way out....I...I got all the way in without anyone seeing me. ::She starts to shake again and pulls her knees up to her chest and buries her face in them:: I'm sorry * Kevil stalks to the curtained window and peers out the sliver of a gap at the street. He leans against the wall, his jaw working in angry silence. Finally, he speaks tightly. "Do you know what they have- No. Of course you do not." His eyes close, and he looks back at Summer darkly. "I hope you learned something useful." <Summer> There were not very many there. Although it looked like they sleep there, maybe during the day or something. ::She keeps her gaze on the floor in front of her:: I heard your voice. You and another man, someone I don't recognize. <Kevil> ::anger drops from his face and turns to surprise:: *Mine*? * Summer nods. "At first I almost missed it, so I didn't hear a lot." She pauses and closes her eyes for a moment. "Something about not having a lot of food, or extra food being gone soon. It was good while it lasted. Then someone else, I do not know who. Something about....Ky...Kyar I think." She shakes her head and sighs. "That was all I heard." <Kevil> ::draws a sharp breath:: Diya. They heard me talking to Diya. *How*? <Summer> There was a lot of chanting before I heard that, and after. They must have a way of listening to you. But why you? ::She looks up at him:: <Kevil> ::shakes his head dumbly:: I do not know... Some scrying spell, but... ::he begins pacing the small room:: You saw nothing? <Summer> The second floor was a sleeping quarters of some sort. But like I said there was no one there, and only one guard on that floor. The next floor up there was a room but I could not see into it. There was an Orc wizard or mage there, but I didn't really see much of him. The top most floor that I saw there were rooms and there were people in one, the people I heard...you and Diya? <Kevil> ::numbly:: The corporal was there, also, but he does not speak much, since... ::he winces, recalling the punishments inflicted on the hostages:: Why *us*? They can not know *every*thing, or I would already be dead. * Summer shakes her head and looks down at the floor again. "I do not know. But you know now that they can see you, even when you think they can not." She pauses and looks thoughtful. "When did you have that conversation? With Diya?" <Kevil> ::snorts:: At dinner last night. Probably around the same time you overheard it. <Summer> ::she nods:: <Kevil> ::looks at her sharply:: If you value your life, you must keep to the Hall. * Summer nods again, tugging her braid over her shoulder. "I know" <Kevil> They have placed posters over all the city, with your description and your picture, and a listing of your crimes against them... And retributions and rewards, d'va? Half the city will be wanting to find you, for one reason or another. * Summer curls up tighter in the chair and nods. <Kevil> ::rubs his face tiredly:: If Loria had been chosen, I might be tempted, myself... ::he sighs and goes back to the window to look out the gap:: <Summer> What happened to them? <Kevil> ::softly, without looking around:: Several of the officers were allowed to choose... companions, from among the hostages. They will be returned to the rest of the hostages when you have been turned in. <Kevil> The one who turns you in will also be granted other rewards, including the freedom of one hostage of his or her choice. * Summer winces and her fists tighten. "They should not.." she mumbles in a whisper. Then she stands. "Take me." <Kevil> ::turns to stare at her:: <Summer> They should not have to pay for choices I made. I can not...will not let it be that way. Take me and you can get Loria out. ::She pauses for a moment and then her face hardens:: If you do not I will go myself. <Kevil> ::closes his eyes, then looks at her again:: They will *kill* you. Likely unpleasantly. * Summer nods and sits weakly in the chair. "I know." <Kevil> No. It is not permitted. ::he moves to stand in front of her:: Your sacrifice would gain us little. As it is... Perhaps the people's anger can be directed, d'va? At least wait some few days, until the gathering here. Wiser heads than mine may know best how to turn the situation to some good. * Summer sits still for a time, her eyes on the floor. "A few days," she says softly before looking up at Kevil. "If this does not turn to good somehow within a few days I will go, myself if I need to." <Kevil> ::softly:: As you wish... But I think Loria would not thank me for buying her freedom with your life, d'va? Wait. We will... ::his hands clench helplessly:: We will do *some*thing. |
