Getting the Girl
1404
1405
1406

* Michelle unlocks the door and announces, "Hall's Open!"

* Michelle returns behind the bar. She's dressed in a brown sweater over a white blouse with a tartan skirt.

* Ilarion comes in and hangs his coat on a hook. "Evening, Mistress Michelle. Might I get a glass of wine, please? White's preferable."

* Ragna enters, rubbing her hands together. "Mug of spirit, please, barkeep? Be out in a bit." She heads for the washroom.

* Michelle uncorks a bottle and pours a glass for Ilarion, "Here you go. How are you this evening?"

* Jaret enters, wearing a navy blue jacket and breeches with dove grey slashes over a white ruffled shirt. He hangs his cloak on a peg as he enters, removing his hat soon afterwards. His rapier hangs in its usual place by his side. "Good evening, Lady Michelle! A goblet of Arabellan Red, if you please."

* Michelle fills a mug for Ragna and leaves it on the bar for her.

* Michelle smiles and pours Jaret his usual, "Here you are Jaret. And how are you this evening?"

<Ilarion> I am well, if a bit worried. Ilya's off to her mother's for the spring and won't be home until mid-summer. ::he sighs and takes a long sip of his wine::

* Tarri enters with a slim book under one arm. "Good evening." She takes a seat at the bar. "Hot cider, please?"

<Jaret> I'm quite well, Michelle. It seems as if the icy grip of winter might be loosening, and while not a hint of spring has yet arrived, I can almost feel that it is around a nearby corner. Soon enough, I hope. Soon enough.

* Michelle smiles mischievously, "But it's nice to have the house to just the two of you?"

* Meghan walks in with Abby in tow. She leaves her cloak at the door and heads to the bar. "Evening all."

<Jaret> Good evening, Lady Meghan! I trust you are well?

* Michelle fills a steaming mug for Tarri and sets it on the bar in front of her.

* Meghan smiles and nods to Jaret as she slides onto a stool. "Very well thank you."

* Michelle smiles, "Spring is always pleasant."

* Michelle brightens, "Good evening Meghan, Abagail."

* Ragna returns after several minutes, drying her hands on a corner of her tunic before tucking it back in. She nods to the faces she's come to know as she makes her way to the bar and her mug. "Evenin', all. Ah, now, there's the little lady... happier than last time, I hope?" She smiles at Abby.

<Meghan> Good evening Michelle ::She smiles and shifts Abby, sitting her on the edge of the bar top. Abby grins and waves to Michelle::

* Ilarion nods to Michelle, looking just a bit flushed and takes his wine over to sit near the fire.

* Meghan smiles and nods to Ragna "Much thank the gods."

* Tarri sips her cider with a happy sigh, and opens her book to a page marked with a ribbon. She reads a little, frowns, and flips back a few pages to compare a previous entry.

* Michelle walks over and gives Abby a quick hug, "Were you giving your poor mother trouble?"

<Meghan> ::Abby hugs Michelle::

* Jaret smiles at the mothers and child, having a quick sip of his wine while things are calm.

<Ragna> Well then, I think I can find a little something to reward good behavior, eh? ::raising an eyebrow at Meghan for permission::

<Meghan> She has her days ::Meg grins and glances to Roni, looking slightly concerned for a moment. She looks back to Michelle:: Could I get some mulled wine please Chelle

* Meghan smiles and nods to Ragna. "Yes she may have a present"

* Michelle fills a steaming mug for Meghan and hands it to her, before turning back to Abby, "And what do you want?"

<Ragna> ::grins:: Good. Mistress Michelle? D'ye have a large bowl back there I can fill with water?

<Tarri> ::looks up, her eyes lighting:: Did you get the duck to swim?

<Meghan> ::Abby looks to Michelle:: Milk!

* Michelle smiles at Ragna, "I think so. Just a moment." Michelle fills a small mug with milk and gives it to Abby before disappearing into the kitchen.

<Ragna> ::grins a touch smugly:: Judge yerself, in a moment. ::pulling a smallish box from her waist pack and setting it on the bar::

* Meghan helps Abby drink from the small mug.

* Ilarion turns his wine glass in his hand, staring absently into the fire.

* Michelle turns from the kitchen carrying a very large stew pot. With a groan she puts it down on the floor, revealing that it is full of water. "Alright, I think I'll get someone else to carry that back to the kitchen."

* Meghan grins and moves to set Abby near the pot of water. "Now watch Abby."

* Jaret leans out away from the bar so he can see the top of the stew pot.

<Ragna> ::grins broadly, carrying her box over to the pot and kneeling next to it:: Well, now. I *did* say large, I suppose... ::turning her smile on Abby as she opens the box and taps the little metal ovoid inside twice on its top:: Had to make 'er a mite smaller... the weight was half my problem, I'd wager....

<Meghan> ::Abby watches, her eyes wide::

* Tarri watches with almost as much anticipation as the toddler.

<Ragna> ::The metal duck lifts her head from where it's tucked half-under a spoon-shaped wing and quacks once, standing up to reveal bright yellow feet. Ragna picks it up and plops it unceremoniously into the pot, and the duck quacks again before starting to swim in circles around the edge::

<Tarri> ::laughs and claps:: How wonderful!

<Meghan> ::Abby claps gleefully:: Quack! Quack!

* Ilarion glances over at the pile of people around the washbin.

* Meghan grins "Oh Ragna it's great. You are truly amazing."

<Ragna> ::grins broadly, looking up at Meghan:: Now then, she's not so strong as the frog... had to make 'er mostly hollow to make 'er float. But she's good and watertight. Learned me a few things, ridin' around on ships so long.

* Meghan nods. "I am sure Abby won't be so hard on her as Chey is on the frog."

<Ragna> ::chuckles:: Like as not. Tho' girls can play plenty rough, too.

* Jaret laughs. "Quite clever, smith! Heartiest congratulations."

<Meghan> ::Abby stands and looks over the pot. She smack her hand down in the water, splashing it all over.::

* Ilarion snickers as Abby soaks the little group.

<Genin> ::In a sudden cascade of blue, starlit shadow Genin materializes into the hall...three inches from the floor. He flails his arms out wide to maintain his balance as he falls the short distance. Papers fly in one direction and an ink bottle the other. With a crash the small vial breaks, staining the hardwood underneath.:: Oh dear, that's not what I had in mind at all! :: Genin drops to his knees at once and starts cleaning up his mess.::

* Meghan grabs Abby's hand. "No splashing dear. Just watch."

<Genin> Ummm :: he says looking up at the bar.:: I'm afraid I'll have to pay for this bit here to be cleaned. It's not coming up.

* Meghan blinks as Genin appears.

<Tarri> Oh! ::backs up a few steps and brushes water from her tunic. She backs up again in shock as Genin appears:: Oh, my! ::she snatches her book from the bar and retreats to the fire to dry her clothes::

<Ragna> ::the duck bobs up and down unconcernedly on the wave Abby makes, tipping over briefly and rolling around in the water for a moment before righting itself again. Ragna wipes water off her face, still grinning:: That's right, force o' nature ye are, aren't ye? ::chuckles::

* Jaret spins and half-draws at Genin's appearance, quietly putting his sword back fully in his sheath as he realizes who it is. "Well... good evening?"

<Meghan> ::Abby giggles and sits again, content to watch the duck swim around::

<Ragna> ::blinks:: Well, scholar, if ye'd a mind to make a big entrance, that's what ye did.

<Genin> Oh yes..well umm hello. Hello! I'll just be going back to my table. Don't mind me...please.

* Michelle shakes her head, "I ought to make you clean it up with mule kick." Michelle gets a towel from behind the bar and begins cleaning up the mess.

* Ilarion twitches his mouth to one side, disgusted.

<Genin> Mulekick? If you think it will help I'll do what I can!

* Ragna shrugs and gets up off her knees, ruffling Abby's hair before climbing back onto her stool for a swallow of spirits.

<Meghan> ::Abby smiles to Ragna:: Tanks

<Tarri> ::offers Ilarion a tentative smile:: If you don't mind my saying so, you look... rather pensive, tonight.

<Ragna> ::smiles:: Welcome, lass.

* Michelle shakes her head as she stands, the last of the ink having come up in the towel, "Don't tempt me. You're lucky to still be in one piece. The barriers around the Hall are nearly impossible to travel through."

* Meghan grins and goes back to her stool, keeping half an eye on Abby.

* Ilarion gestures to one relatively ink-free seat. "Sit down if you like." He sighs again.

* Sabrina steps up into the hall. She's got a cloak covering her, hood up. She slowly removes it and turns to look around the hall.

<Tarri> Thank you. ::she sits, stretching her damp tunic out to absorb the fire's warmth::

* Michelle tosses the ink stained towel into the kitchen, then turns to see who's come into the Hall, "Sabrina! Welcome back."

<Genin> I'm lucky indeed Mistress Barkeep. Please do not think that any of this was my doing.

* Sabrina smiles and slowly walks to the bar. "Hello Michelle"

<Genin> I think a rather nasty old man meant to send me to some other place

* Michelle returns behind the bar, "So what can I get you Genin?"

<Genin> something strong. I have gold to pay for it this time! ::he smiles apologetically::

* Jaret laughs merrily. "Meant to send you some other place and you ended up here! How familiar."

<Ragna> ::shakes her head, grumbling into her mug:: Mages...

* Michelle looks at Genin for a moment, then fills a small glass for him with a clear liquid, "Try this."

<Genin> Why thank you!

<Michelle> Can I get you anything Sabrina?

<Tarri> ::checks to make sure her book is undamaged, then cocks her head at Ilarion:: What's got you down?

* Meghan looks over and smiles seeing Sabrina "Songbird!" She smiles and hugs Sabrina.

* Sabrina hugs Meg back "Hi Meg." She glances to Michelle "Water is fine thanks, Michelle"

<Genin> ::Genin looks over to the newcomer. She's obviously known here. He moves back to his seat and nurses his drink, managing only a slight grimace::

* Michelle smiles and shakes her head, "I should have known. With you and Bai both gone I've nearly forgotten which tap it is." Turns to inspect the multitude of taps, which suddenly appear to be far more numerous than they were a minute ago, "Oh dear."

* Sabrina glances around again. She sees Tarri and Roni and smiles a bit before looking back to the bar. She giggles softly at the taps. "Oh I have missed this place."

<Ilarion> ::drains the rest of his wine:: Nothing important really. Ilya's on her way to her mother's for the spring. ::there's a definite distasteful note in his tone::

* Michelle picks up a mug and selects a tap, opening it carefully as if it might spout flames, relaxing visible as a colorless liquid pours out. Michelle carefully sniffs the contents of the full mug before setting it on the bar, "I THINK that's water."

<Tarri> Oh. ::looks sympathetic:: Missing her already?

* Sabrina nods and sips the glass. "Mmm yes thank you."

<Ilarion> ::shrugs:: I just... worry. Kauriss hasn't got much sense. And Ilya's very impressionable. I always have the worst time with her after a visit to her mom's.

<Meghan> ::Abby grabs the duck and toddles over to the fire. She stops near Roni and offers him the duck:: Quack!

<Tarri> Well, she's getting older... Maybe she'll be able to learn soon that there are different rules for her different homes. It has to be kind of tough on her, too.

<Sabrina> ::watches Abby walk across the room:: Wow Meg, she's really gotten big.

<Tarri> ::looks up with a smile as Abby brings her duck over, then spots Sabrina:: 'Brina! You came back!

* Sabrina smiles and waves a bit at Tarri. "hi"

* Tarri gets up and goes to hug Sabrina. "When did you get back?"

* Sabrina hugs Tarri back. "Just now. I came straight here. How have you been? How's San?"

<Meghan> ::Abby waves the duck at Roni::

<Tarri> Um... ::her cheerful demeanor fades somewhat and she looks away uncomfortably:: I don't know. I haven't seen him for a while.

<Sabrina> Oh ::She nods and hugs Tarri again:: I've missed you.

<Tarri> ::smiles again:: I missed you, too. How's, um... ::she looks around quickly:: What happened to Fosst?

* Ilarion stands, bowing briefly to Sabrina. "Welcome back." He moves back to the bar. "Might I get another of these?"

* Sabrina bites her lip and looks down. "He's...." She sighs "There was an accident and he fell." Tears fill her eyes and she takes a long drink of her water before looking back to Tarri. "I was able to get him home just before he died."

<Michelle> Certainly Ilarion. ::Michelle quickly refills Roni's glass:: Let me know if you need anything else.

* Ragna takes a swallow of spirits.

<Tarri> ::eyes widening:: Oh, no! I'm so sorry...

<Genin> INDEED!! THASHT tERRibible!

<Sabrina> ::She smiles just a bit and nods:: At least he was able to see his family. ::she takes a deep breath and drinks more of her water::

<Jaret> I'm sorry, Sabrina. The trip couldn't have been easy for you.

* Ragna raises an eyebrow at Genin and takes another swig from her mug, shaking her head a little.

<Genin> ::Genin's head hits the table lightly. Hardly any noise at all.::

* Sabrina blinks as she heard Genin and then looks to Jaret and nods. "It was. I am just glad to be home with friends again."

* Ragna glances at Genin and back to Michelle. "Gave 'im the good stuff, did ye?"

<Ilarion> ::sits back down again:: I'm sorry for your loss, Sabrina.

<Meghan> ::Abby gets tired of trying to get Roni's attention and she wanders to JAret::

* Sabrina nods to Roni. "Thank you."

* Jaret grins and puts his goblet down on the bar before hopping off his stool and getting down on one knee as Abby arrives. "Good evening, Miss Lore? How are you tonight?"

* Michelle shakes her head, "I don't think most human tongues can tell the difference. I just gave him the first one I found." Gestures over her shoulder to the taps. All six of them.

<Meghan> ::Abby giggles and reaches for Jaret:: Up!

* Jaret tickles Abby's exposed ribs. "And what do we say when we want up?"

<Meghan> ::Abby strains her arms:: Up pease!

<Ragna> Hm. ::eyes Genin:: Well... I'll pay the scholar's round. No sense good spirit goin' to waste. Think e'd mind?

* Meghan grins watching Jaret and Abby.

* Jaret lifts Abby high up in the air, jumping as he raises her up as high as his arms can go. "Up!"

* Michelle shrugs, "I have no idea."

<Meghan> ::Abby giggles and waves her arms, the duck caught tight in one hand::

<Ragna> Ah, well... give the lad a shot of whiskey on me, would ye, and give the mug here?

* Jaret brings Abby back down to normal carrying level and kisses her on the cheek. "I'm glad to hear you've been behaving yourself." He leans closer and whispers. "at least where your mother can see, that is."

* Sabrina watches Abby and Jaret with a smile and then turns back to Tarri. "So how is work?"

* Michelle giggles and pours the shot, placing it next to Genin's hand and bringing the glass of spirits to Ragna.

* Meghan raises an eyebrow at Jaret as she sips her wine.

<Ragna> ::grins:: Thankee. Now then... ::putting her own mug down and picking up Genin's, sniffing it curiously::

<Tarri> ::shrugs, smiling, and waves her book indicatively:: Master Bran's got me working hard. He wants me to help him plan the spring herb-beds.

<Genin> ::eyes the glass of who knows what:: uuuuuuuuhhhhhhhhhh

<Sabrina> ::nods:: That's good. Hopefully Val will let me have my job at the shop back.

<Meghan> ::Abby waves the duck at Jaret:: Quack!

<Ragna> Hunh. ::takes a swallow:: S'what I thought. Stonehammer. ::eyes the groaning Genin:: Lad's not got much of a head for drink.

* Sabrina glances to Genin and whispers to Tarri "Who's that?"

<Tarri> ::whispering as well:: I'm not sure. He's new.

* Jaret laughs and pokes at the duck's beak. "Yes, it is a marvelous duck, Abby, quite clever indeed. Be sure to take proper care of it now."

* Sabrina nods

<Ragna> ::the duck quacks at Jaret when he pokes it::

<Meghan> ::Abby giggles::

* Jaret experimentally pets the top of the duck's head.

<Tarri> Anyway, if you go by the Music Box, tell Vallie I said hello. I haven't seen him for a while, either.

* Sabrina nods "Are you working to much?" she smirks a bit.

<Ragna> ::the duck quacks, and its bright yellow feet paddle the air with a faint whirring sound::

* Ilarion drains the rest of the wine. He stands and hands the goblet to Michelle, then pulls out a silver from his pocket. "Thank you, Mistress. I'm afraid I'm terrible company tonight. I think I'll go home." With a bow to Tarri and Sabrina, he leaves.

<Tarri> ::blushes:: Nnnno, not really. But I've been... busy...

* Jaret laughs brightly some more. "Isn't that just the cleverest thing, Abby? Put it down on the bar, and let's see it waddle."

<Meghan> ::Abby reaches to place the duck gently on the bartop::

* Sabrina raises an eyebrow. "Oh?"

<Ragna> :the duck bobs once on its legs and starts to waddle in a circle, fat little body rocking back and forth::

<Meghan> ::Abby giggles and claps::

* Jaret grins and watches to make sure the duck doesn't amble off the edge of the bar.

<Tarri> ::shrugs sheepishly:: I'm seeing someone. Kind of.

<Meghan> ::Abby rocks back and forth as she watches the duck::

<Ragna> ::grins, watching duck and little girl both as she sips from Genin's abandoned mug::

* Sabrina grins "Oh!"

<Genin> ::Genin looks up and stares wide-eyed at the monstrous duck thundering towards him::

* Sabrina finishes her water "Well I should get to the shop and see if my apartment is still there." She hugs Tarri. "Let's have lunch this week?"

<Michelle> Night Sabrina.

<Tarri> Oh, yes, please!

<Meghan> ::Abby giggles to Genin::

<Genin> ::Genin forgets the duck and looks over at Sabrina:: Bye! ::he waves::

<Sabrina> Good. Goodnight everyone. ::she smiles and waves to Genin and heads out::

<Ragna> ::shakes her head again and grins, draining the last few swallows from Genin's mug and handing it back to Michelle::

<Genin> Hey! That wash my drink!

<Genin> You don wanna be drinkin tha

* Michelle sets the glass on the floor and lets it waddle into the kitchen.

<Genin> i'll mesh ya up

<Tarri> ::looks at the duck with admiration:: That really is wonderful... ::grins at Ragna:: Have you considered my commission?

<Ragna> ::raises an eyebrow:: Aye, and so's that, lad. ::nodding to the full shot glass in front of him:: More yer speed, lad. Careful what ye ask for, in an adventurer's bar.

<Genin> ::Genin stands up and does an astonishingly good impression of the ducks waddle as he makes his way to Ragna::

<Meghan> ::Abby reaches for the duck::

<Genin> ::leaning over he whispers loudly:: Did ya see tha BIG DUCK o'er thar?

* Jaret leans Abby closer to the duck so she can reach it easily.

<Meghan> ::Abby grabs the duck and hugs it close::

<Ragna> Aye. Magpie's a smallish bird... I think I can handle that. ::turning to Genin with a somewhat incredulous look:: Big? Y'mean *that*? ::nodding to the mechanical duck::

<Tarri> Wonderful!

<Genin> ::Genin points to Abby:: Tha big DUCK that lil girl is holding! Shouldn be in a bar now should it?

* Michelle smiles as she watches the crowd.

* Meghan grins and shakes her head a bit

* Jaret gives Abby a reassuring squeeze.

<Ragna> ::shakes her head:: Lad, yer drunk. Take my advice an' sit yerself down again afore ye fall down, ay?

<Meghan> ::Abby snuggles into Jaret and sighs contently::

<Genin> ::Genin sits in the floor::

<Ragna> ::nods approvingly:: Aye, that'll do. ::turns back to her own mug and has a swallow before addressing Tarri again:: Now then... doesn't need to be a rush job, does it?

<Tarri> No, it's not a rush. I think her birthday is in the summer.

<Ragna> Well enough then. How old?

<Tarri> ::grins:: I'm not really sure... Eight or so?

* Meghan looks to Jaret and Abby, smiling fondly. "Be careful. She might get attached" She winks at him.

* Tarri measures out Pie's approximate height in the air.

* Jaret kisses the top of Abby's head. "I think at most she'll fall asleep."

<Genin> ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzz snort snort ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZz

* Meghan chuckles and nods as Abby yawns and snuggles closer to JAret.

* Jaret looks at Genin briefly. "Does he have a room here, Michelle? If he doesn't, I'll cover his lodging for the evening, and help you get him to his assigned domicile."

* Michelle nods, "He's got a room upstairs. Thank you for the offer Jaret." Michelle looks out the window, "It's a little early but I've got extra cleaning to do so last call everyone."

<Ragna> ::squints measuringly at the height Tarri indicates with her hand, and then grins:: Ye realize how little that means t'such as me?

<Ragna> M'good with this, barkeep, thanks. ::to Tarri:: Very well. Let's call it... materials, plus eight silver? Fair?

<Tarri> ::grins at Ragna:: Well... An older child, anyway. Not a toddler, like this one ::indicates Abby:: and Lady Nacheyla's.

* Jaret reaches out, plucks his goblet of wine from the bar, and has a deep swallow, mostly finishing it. "I'll be fine with just this, thank you, Michelle."

* Meghan finishes her wine and stands. "If you are not required elsewhere Jaret, will you walk us home?"

<Tarri> ::nods:: Plenty fair. How much do you need in advance, to get started?

<Tarri> ::takes a few quick gulps to finish her mostly-cooled cider::

<Ragna> ::shakes her head:: I've all I need at th'forge, I think. Got most of the inner workings and suchlike lined out already from that one, and the other. ::nods to Abby's duck::

<Jaret> I am not required elsewhere, and I'd be happy to, Lady Meghan. Would you like to take Abby for a moment, or perhaps witness the manuevers I've devised for donning a heavy cloak while carrying a toddler in one hand?

* Meghan chuckles and nods. She takes Abby and cradles her against her chest.

<Genin> ::Genin opens an eye::

<Ragna> Still fiddling a bit, to make a thing that flies... I can give you a better idea in two-three weeks, belike.

<Tarri> ::nods:: All right. ::bites her lip:: Let me know, please, if it's going to run more than a couple of gold for the materials, though?

<Jaret> Ah, a pity. ::he stands, walks to the door, and settles his cloak on his shoulders:: I am ready to depart at your leisure.

<Ragna> Ah, not likely. ::waving a hand:: Something so little and light... it's all tin and paint. Not so much. ::grins:: It's a child's toy, not a noble's gewgaw. *Those*, I'd charge plenty for.

* Meghan nods and heads for the door, passing Abby back to Jaret and then putting her cloak on. "Goodnight everyone."

<Tarri> ::grins, then picks up her book:: I'd better get back to this garden-plan... Good night, everybody!

<Michelle> Goodnight Meghan, Jaret, Abagail.

* Jaret opens the door for Meghan and Abby. "Good night!'

<Michelle> Goodnight Tarri.

<Ragna> G'night, all. ::nods to the departing folk::

* Jaret heads out, close on Meghan's heels.

<Genin> zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

<Ragna> ::shakes her head:: Need a hand gettin' him upstairs, Mistress Michelle?

* Michelle shakes her head, looking at the ceiling for a moment and whispering to herself. Genin's seat grows arms that wrap around him, holding him in place as it grows towards the ceiling where a hole appears. A few moments later the seat now empty lowers back to the floor, the hole in the ceiling closing after it.

* Michelle sighs and shakes her head, "Thank you for the offer Ragna. I could use a hand with this pot though." Moves to grab one of the pots two handles.

<Genin> ::a muffled sound comes from upstairs:: ahhhhhhhh!

* Ragna swallows hard, taking an alarmed step backward and looking a little pale for a moment. "Ahhh... right then." She rubs her palms on her trousers and steps forward again to take the other pot handle

<Michelle> ::Michelle and Ragna carry the pot into the kitchen and then return to the main Hall:: Thank you very much Ragna. ::Michelle begins shooing the last of the dishes into the kitchen::

<Ragna> ::gruffly:: Welcome. Thanks for the use of the pot. ::sidesteps hastily to avoid the kitchen-bound glassware, and gives Michelle a nod:: Right. Off to bed, then. G'night. ::heading upstairs a little quicker than usual::

* Michelle dims the lights and locks the door on her way out.
