* Rhys stalks in from the back room. He glares at the lamps on the walls in one sweeping look and the burst into hot, bright flame. Reaching the door, he savagely unlocks it, ripping his key out of the lock once its undone. "The Hall is open." He returns behind the bar and settles onto his stool, his right hand fingers slowly drumming on the bar. * Sabrina walks into the bar looking over a book as she goes. She slides onto a stool and glances and then glances again at Rhys "Evening Rhys" <Rhys> Evening, Sabrina. Water? * Sabrina nods "Thank you. SOmething wrong Rhys?" * Rhys gives Sabrina a look, then reaches under the bar and comes out with a small live animal trap. A red and blue checked mouse runs back and forth in it. "I think I know the answer, but I want to hear someone tell me for certain... who did this?" * Lisl enters, muttering under her breath. "Bloody hermit... try to do something nice for somebody... stubborn..." * Sabrina blinks and calmly places her book on the bartop. "Well it's cute" * Vallel comes in, pushing his cloak off his head. "Gah, I wish the weather would make up it's mind. I'm *freezing*!" * Alec walks down the stairs wearing the usual black leather armour, and carrying his cloak * Rhys serves Sabrina her water. "It's not cute. It's vermin." * Sabrina smiles at Rhys and reaches for the cage "Can I see?" * Tarri comes in, the bright smile on her face belying the dark circles under her eyes. She bounces a little as she looks around at all the people, and heads straight for the bar. "Good evening, Master Rhy-" She breaks off to look at the mouse. "That's... unusual..." * Rhys pushes the cage closer to Sabrina. "See with your eyes, not your hands." * Lisl eyes the colorful mouse in the trap. "Ah, great. Books dry out yet, Rhys?" * Alec looks around the hall and moves down the last few stairs walking up to a table and throwing his cloak on a chair * Sabrina grins at Rhys again and pulls the cage closer looking at the mouse curiously. * Rhys casts a baleful look Lisl's way. "Not quite, no. Kick?" <Lisl> Please. Be glad. It could have been worse. She *blessed* me. * Rhys nods to Alec. "I'm Rhys, barkeep tonight. What can I get you? Tarri, some cider?" <Vallel> ::looking at the mouse in the cage on the bar:: Interesting. * Alec walks towards the bar..."ale" <Tarri> Actually... I'd like some tea. Very strong, with a lot of honey in it. ::she smiles at Rhys:: Please. <Rhys> It's. Not. Interesting. It's a pest. A bloody *menace*. * Sabrina grins at Tarri and then Lisl "Hello" Smiles at Vallel. * Lisl nods politely to Alec as he enters, turning to look over her shoulder as Tarri comes in. "Tarri! They let you out?" She grins. * Sabrina shakes her head a bit and looks back to the mouse "What are you gonna do with it Rhys?" * Rhys fetches a cup and saucer, fills it with hot water, and sets a tea bag to steep before pushing it over to Tarri, setting a spoon in the saucer. "Say so if you need cream or sugar." * Alec looks at Lisl and nods <Rhys> I'm not sure *what* to do with it. It's not really a mouse. <Tarri> ::turns and smiles brightly:: Lisl! <Tarri> ::takes the teacup with a grateful nod:: Sugar, please. Or honey's fine. * Sabrina raises a brow "What is it then?" <Lisl> ::snorts:: Give it to Zoya. I'm sure she'd love another excuse not to get out more. <Rhys> It's an animated liquiform that's got something resembling a base animal's cognition. <Lisl> In Common, Rhys? * Sabrina humms "Well I still think it's cute" * Vallel blinks several times, trying to make sense of that, then shakes his head. "Never mind. Could I get a beer, please?" * Alec looks back at the bartender..."Ale please" * Rhys takes the cage away from Sabrina and pushes it towards Lisl. "Break it's neck, Lisl." * Rhys pours Alec a mug of dark ale. "Here you go." <Sabrina> No! Don't do that. * Sabrina spins to face Lisl <Lisl> ::presses her lips together:: Gladly. I'll pretend it's its creator... * Alec drops a few coins on the bar and takes the mug..."thanks" * Alec walks over to his table and sits down <Lisl> ::sighs and shakes her head:: Cuteness. The last-ditch defense of vermin. <Tarri> ::watches the mouse debate with amusement:: * Sabrina pulls the cage back. "It's not the mouses fault" * Alec takes a sip of his ale <Tarri> ::grins at Sabrina:: It's not a mosquito's fault it was born a mosquito, either, and I bet you still kill *them*. <Rhys> It's. Not. A. Mouse. ::he reaches *through* the cage bars and pulls the mouse out:: Watch. ::he zings it off the far wall. The mouse hits the wall, turns to water, runs down the wall, sits as a puddle for a couple seconds, and then runs away again:: <Lisl> 'Brina, it's not a mouse. It's a construct. A construct designed, in fact, to spread chaos wherever its little mousy feet take it. <Tarri> ::blinks in astonishment at the mouse then giggles:: It's kind of the opposite of your sheep, Val... * Alec watches the mouse run past and mutters.."interesting" * Sabrina watches it and nods. She turns back to her water looking a little less happy than she did when she walked in. "Still it doesn't seem fair" <Vallel> ::stiffly:: I like my sheep. ::looks at the mouse with disgust:: Let me guess? Yb? <Rhys> ::to Vallel:: I'm still waiting for someone to confirm it. Lisl's *almost* done so, but hasn't said the name yet. Ale, Master duNache? <Vallel> ::nodding:: Please. <Tarri> ::laughs:: I like your sheep, too, Val. ::she dunks her tea bag up and down in the cup, gauging the color of the tea:: <Lisl> Doesn't seem fair to whom? Us? The mouse? Please... it's *Yb's* work. Since when has Yb been organized enough to even *worry* about "fair"? <Tarri> ::shivers and looks around at Lisl:: Could you please just not... say her name? She might... show up... <Vallel> ::snickering, in an undertone:: Especially don't say it three times in a row. * Rhys pours Vallel his ale. * Tarri dunks her tea bag once more, then looks up at Rhys. "Can I have some honey, please?" * Adam walks into the Hall, having to bend down to fit through the door. He is a human standing seven feet tall, with a smiths build. He wears simple clothes and a smile on his face. "Good evening all." <Lisl> ::snorts:: Answering when she's called? That would imply order. She's chaos. * Rhys pours Lisl her mug of 'kick. "Here you are, Lisl." * Alec looks at Adam <Lisl> Thanks, Rhys. ::drinking deeply and sighing:: <Rhys> Adam, it's been a while. So long, in fact, I can't remember your preferences. Help me out with a hint? <Tarri> ::shivers again:: I know, but... Let's not give her a *path* to follow, or anything... * Adam grins, "I don't have a usual. How about some dwarven spirits? I'm not sure if I'm feeling healthy enough for Kick tonight." * Alec takes a sip of his ale and looks around the bar again <Vallel> ::taking a long pull off his ale, he sets the mug down half-empty:: * Sabrina sips her water and glances around the bar. * Adam takes a seat at the bar, "How has everyone been?" <Rhys> I think the taps can still scoop some out of the barrel. ::Rhys fetches another stone mug and pours Adam his spirits:: And here's some honey, Tarri. ::he fetches a small crock seemingly from behind Adam's mug and sets it in front of Tarri:: * Lisl raises an eyebrow at the stranger, mouthing the word "Kick" to herself and shaking her head. <Tarri> ::smiles at Rhys:: Thank you! ::she fishes out her tea bag and sets it to one side, then puts a generous dollop of honey into her tea before taking a largish gulp:: * Adam lifts his mug to Lisl, "Good evening Lisl." Adam drinks. <Vallel> ::turning to Tarri:: How've you been? I've seen little of you and less of San in the last several weeks. <Tarri> ::grins at Val:: Busy.... The temple keeps changing our schedules around so I never really know when I'm going to be free... It's done the weirdest things to my dreams... ::she makes a face and gulps more tea:: But the classes are *so* fascinating! <Lisl> ::raises an eyebrow at Adam:: Do I know you? <Tarri> And San... ::she sighs briefly, then shrugs:: You know. He's been back once or twice for quick visits, but... Ah, well, it's probably for the best, as weird as my schedule is these days. * Adam nods, "We met very briefly when everyone went to that other world to rescue Tyl and Cwal from their brother." <Lisl> ::blinks, and leans on the bar, frowning at him in puzzlement a little:: Alright... please tell me you weren't the dragon mage. * Sabrina drinks more of her water and turns to Alec "Hi I'm Sabrina. I don't think we got a chance to meet last week?" * Adam grins and drinks again, "I certainly hope he's dead after I held him down while you cut him open." <Tarri> ::grins at Vallel again:: So how have *you* been? Gloss isn't with you tonight? * Alec takes a sip of his ale and looks at Sabrina..."hello" * Sabrina smiles to him. "You are new in MArsember?" <Lisl> ::frowns a moment more before her brow clears:: Aaaaahhhh... ::grins:: Sorry. Didn't recognize you with that haircut. * Alec smirks..."how'd ya tell?" <Vallel> ::smiling ruefully:: No, Gloss is working. I'm not sure what she's doing, but it makes lots of smoke and smells like rotten eggs. I thought I'd stay out of the way. <Tarri> ::laughs:: Yeah, that sounds like the best thing to do... * Adam chuckles with a sound reminiscent of a landslide, "Quite understandable." * Sabrina chuckles "Well I was not sure, that's why I asked. Have you been here long?" <Alec> I've been "around" the city for about a year * Sabrina nods "so you are not that new" grins and sips her water. <Lisl> So what have you been up to, when not dragon-slaying? * Tarri blinks slowly, then shakes her head and takes another gulp of tea. "I have *got* to wake up!" <Alec> why do you ask? <Vallel> ::looking at her closely:: You look... forgive me for saying so, you look awful, Tarri. * Sabrina tilts her head a bit "Just curious. Sorry to pry." * Sabrina blinks and turns to look at Tarri "What's wrong Tarri?" <Tarri> ::makes a bit of a face:: Thanks, I'm sure. ::she smiles wanly:: I just haven't been getting much sleep, that's all. <Alec> just as long as you're not a bounty hunter... * Adam grins, "Collecting cobwebs mostly. Thinking about opening a smithy. That sort of thing." * Sabrina turns back to Alec with a smile "Do I look like a bounty hunter?" said with a grin <Lisl> ::quirking up a corner of her mouth:: Gathering moss? <Alec> you'd be surprised * Adam smiles, "Not damp enough, but it's certainly tried." Has a drink. * Sabrina nods "Perhaps. No I am not a bounty hunter. I am a bard in training." * Lisl chuckles and takes a swallow of 'kick. * Alec nods <Alec> so....what kind of music do you like? * Sabrina chuckles "Whatever Kevil tells me to like" shakes her head a bit "I have not really found one I prefer over another. I like it all mostly. Ballads are my favorite to sing" * Rhys takes the live trap off the bar top, resets the bait, and sets it under the bar. <Tarri> ::gulps back the last of her tea:: Rhys? Can I have another, please? * Sabrina glances at the trap with a bit of a frown and then back to Alec. <Alec> I've met this Kevil...I believe <Lisl> ::cocks her head a moment, and turns to frown at Tarri:: Does your supervisor know you're still practicing with me? <Rhys> Of course, Tarri. ::he pours more hot water into the cup and sets another tea bag in to steep.:: Do you still have enough honey? <Tarri> ::to Rhys:: Yes, thank you. <Vallel> ::patting Tarri on the arm:: Well, I hope you get more sleep soon. * Sabrina sips her water "Perhaps. He comes here every so often" <Tarri> ::to Lisl:: Yeah, she does. I get out of Anatomy half-a-glass early for it. ::she grins:: <Tarri> ::smiles at Vallel:: I'll drink to that, as soon as my tea finishes steeping! ::she giggles:: * Adam chuckles and lifts his mug in a toast to Tarri before drinking. <Vallel> I wonder if you'd benefit any from our meditation training? It's sort of like sleep, only it takes a lot less time. <Alec> called me "master"....::smirks:: <Tarri> Really? ::she looks at Vallel almost hopefully:: I'm willing to try just about *any*thing at this point. Is it hard to learn? * Sabrina nods with a smile "Yeah that was probably Kevil" <Lisl> ::frowns:: Good you get some time off, but... ::shakes her head:: I'll have to speak with her... with the extra exercise, she may not realize how run-down you're getting. ::frowns at Tarri:: <Vallel> ::shaking his head:: Not really... Although the first time I tried it, I did fall asleep. ::chuckles:: * Sabrina pushes her empty mug back towards Rhys "More please" * Alec smiles..."Why did you decide to become a bard?" * Rhys refills Sabrina's water and pushes it back to her. <Tarri> Oh, no, I'll be okay, really! ::she smiles at Lisl:: They watch to make sure we don't really cross the line from *tired* to *exhausted*. It's just that a healer can't ever count on being allowed to sleep regularly, so they want us to train ourselves to keep odd hours... Everyone else is fine, but every so often the schedule change gives me these weird dreams and it's as bad as not sleeping at all. * Sabrina smiles at Alec "Because I love to sing." <Tarri> ::smiles at Vallel:: Maybe, if you got some free time soon, you could come by the temple and teach me? * Sabrina grins at Rhys "Thank you" <Vallel> ::looking at Tarri's eyes:: Yeah. When's your next off-shift? <Lisl> Hm. ::Frowning a little less, taking another swallow of 'kick and muttering into her mug:: More dreams... ::louder:: What sort of dreams? <Tarri> You mean after tonight? ::thinks:: I *think* it's... Day after tomorrow, in the afternoon. * Adam listens, drinking his spirits. <Alec> As long as you like what you do..it's all that counts <Vallel> All right ::thinks a minute:: I can get Robse to cover me at the shop. You really look like you could use the help. <Tarri> ::glances at Lisl:: I don't know. I can't ever remember much when I wake up. Just thinking they're... weird. More vivid than usual. Lots of running. * Sabrina nods to Alec "Yep!" * Alec takes a sip of Ale <Lisl> Hm. ::looking at Vallel:: I'd be willing to sacrifice a day of training, to give you time to teach her. I see her two or three times a week. <Tarri> ::smiles gratefully at Vallel, then hugs him spontaneously:: Thanks! I really appreciate it. <Vallel> ::grinning, he runs one hand through her short hair, then pats her on the shoulder:: <Tarri> ::grins and checks her tea:: <Vallel> ::with a slight frown:: And... um... at least the first time you do it, lay off the stimulants? Starting tomorrow evening? * Sabrina takes her water and wanders over to the fireplace, standing close and looking at the flames there. * Alec takes a sip of his ale and sighs <Tarri> Um... ::looks doubtfully at the tea bag she's fishing out of her cup:: We all pretty much *live* on strong tea over there, but... if you say so, I'll try to do without. ::she grins as she puts honey in her cup:: * Rhys looks at Sabrina and the fire and chews on his lip thoughtfully. <Lisl> ::looks up:: Rhys? Can I use the kitchen for a minute? <Rhys> Hmm? Oh, go right ahead. If I've moved something and you can't find it, just speak up and I'll see if I can remember. <Vallel> ::nodding:: I know. But if your nerves are all jangling from too much tea, you won't be able to concentrate properly. ::ticking off on his fingers:: No tea, no coffee, no chocolate, and no sugar. I know, I'm horrible ::grins at her:: * Adam looks at Lisl over the rim of his mug curiously. <Tarri> ::sticks her tongue out at Vallel:: Well, what *am* I supposed to live on? You've eliminated practically our whole diet! ::she giggles:: * Sabrina pulls a chair close and sits, sipping her water and watching the flames dance. <Vallel> ::seriously:: Fruits, vegetables, bread, chicken... that sort of stuff. Healthy foods. <Lisl> ::nods:: Will do. ::gets up and goes behind the counter, pushing through the door to the kitchen. After a moment, the cold-room door squeaks open, and mixing and pounding can be heard from within. <Rhys> ::musingly:: I wonder if I can flash boil the bastards... * Alec looks at the kitchen door <Tarri> ::blinks at Vallel, amused:: You really mean that, don't you... * Adam shakes his head, "'Fraid I can't help you Rhys." <Vallel> ::shrugging:: I know it's a stupid thing to say, but it's one of the first things Tyl pounded into our heads. Your body can go for a long time, existing off quick energy like sugar and caffeine, but eventually, you'll burn out from it. <Lisl> ::a faint squeak, followed by fluent and creative cursing in several languages, floats back through the kitchen door.:: <Tarri> ::grins, then puts her hands together and bows to Vallel formally, though she's still grinning:: Yes, O Master... <Vallel> ::snorts:: * Alec looks at the kitchen * Alec finishes his ale and gets up heading for the bar * Rhys nudges his head through the door. "They're not ganging up on you Lisl, are they?" <Tarri> ::giggles:: I'll try to be good, Vallie. At least 'til you come and teach me this meditation thingy. <Lisl> They tried. I'm faster. Damn rodents. * Alec sets the mug on the bar and slides it to Rhys...."a refill please" * Adam sips from his mug. * Rhys refills Alec's mug. "There you go." * Vallel jumps in surprise, a startled exclamation bursting from his mouth as he scrambles frantically, pulling at a mouse tail. The mouse, squeaking, is trying very hard to climb up inside his pants' leg. <Tarri> OH! ::jumps away from Vallel in surprise, then puts both hands over her mouth and giggles:: * Alec drops a few coins on the bar and looks at Vallel * Vallel glowers at the small rodent-thing, holding it up by the tails. * Alec looks at the mouse as he walks back to his table <Vallel> ::blinks in astonishment as suddenly he's holding two mice:: Um... Rhys? * Adam watches the mice, "Where Yamato when you need him?" <Tarri> ::leans forward slightly to look at Vallel's mice, fascinated:: * Rhys leans over the bar. "Hand them over, Vallel." * Sabrina glances over her shoulder. * Lisl returns from the kitchen, carrying a mug full of an indeterminately dark-green sludge. She sets it down in front of Tarri. "Pinch your nose, close your eyes, and drink up. I promise, this one's mouse-free." She looks sour. <Vallel> ::giving them to Rhys with alarming speed:: They're um... multiplying. * Alec looks at the mice... <Alec> damn magic * Tarri looks at the mug dubiously. "What is it?" * Alec sits down and takes a sip of his ale * Rhys grabs a mug off the wall and starts throwing Vallel's mice in it. Neither the mug nor the mice look pleased at this development, and both begin to complain about it in squeaky noises. <Lisl> It'll help you stay alert. ::glances at Vallel:: And don't worry, I left out the honey and the stimulants. <Tarri> ::eyes Lisl dubiously:: I don't suppose it would help if I said that healers *give* medicine, not *take* it? <Lisl> ::grins evilly:: Nope. Physician, heal thyself. * Rhys gets all the mice (about eight, all told) in the mug and sprints for the kitchen. As soon as the door swings shut a small explosion can be heard from behind the door, and then all is silent. * Adam has a drink. * Alec looks at the kitchen <Tarri> ::makes an evil face at the mug:: *ALL* of it? * Alec wonders what exploded..but doesn't rush off to find out <Lisl> All of it. ::glances towards the kitchen:: Rhys? Say something. * Tarri looks at Vallel. "If it knocks me out, will you make her carry me back to the temple?" <Vallel> ::nodding:: I will. * Rhys comes back holding the mug, which he sets on the counter. It belches a small steam cloud, which resolves into a sole tail which falls to the bar top. "I think I know how to get rid of them now." <Lisl> ::grins:: Good. 'cause my next suggestion was going to be to carry them all over to the Tower and let them go. ::grins wickedly:: * Alec takes a sip of his ale <Tarri> ::blinks at Lisl as she picks up the mug gingerly:: Are you mad at Lady Natovna? <Lisl> It won't knock you out, Tarri. Drink it off like a good girl. <Lisl> Yes. She's working too damn hard. * Rhys picks the tail up and flicks it across the room into the fireplace. <Tarri> ::sighs and takes a deep breath, then pinches her nose shut with her left hand, slugging back the contents of the mug like a pro:: <Lisl> Need a ratcatcher, Rhys? I'm free this evening. * Lisl watches Tarri carefully, leaning on the counter. * Adam grins, "Felice will be sad that she missed out on the fun." <Tarri> ::slams the mug down with a gasp:: *Sweet* Blessed Mother, that's *AWFUL*! * Sabrina blinks as the tail flies past her into the fire. * Rhys shrugs. "If you don't have anything you'd rather do, I wouldn't mind the assistance. I can understand if you've got something better to do with your evening." <Vallel> ::gently turning Tarri to face Lisl:: If you're going to throw up, she's that way. * Alec looks at the fire and back at his ale and takes a sip <Tarri> ::makes another face:: Is that *mint*? <Lisl> Anything to rid the Hall of Yb's little mini-plague, I'd be delighted to assist with. <Lisl> ::nods, raising an eyebrow at Tarri:: It's better with honey, I admit, but... don't you like mint? <Tarri> ::continues to make the face:: It's just... disconcerting after the rest of it. <Lisl> Well, Mother says, better to leave someone with a pleasant taste on their tongue. * Adam rises, "I should be going. Goodnight everyone. Lisl, Vallel, I'd like to talk to the two of you about opening a smithy in town at some point." <Vallel> ::blinks:: Me? * Alec leans back in his seat and watches a mouse scurry across the floor and smiles <Lisl> ::frowns:: Me? <Lisl> ::looks at Vallel:: * Rhys solemnly watches the mouse's path across the floor, his upper lip twitching ever so slightly. * Adam chuckles loudly, "You Vallel since you have so recently started a business here, and you Lisl because you know so many of the warriors and guards." <Vallel> Ah. ::squints at Adam:: All right. * Alec watches it run up the stairs and mutters..."stay out of my room little one" <Lisl> Ah. Heh. Alright. ::holds up a finger:: 'Scuse me a moment. ::lunges off her stool and grabs another mouse by the neck just before it disappears around the corner of the bar:: Rhys? ::holds out the mouse:: * Adam heads towards the door, "Good evening everyone." * Alec looks at Lisl...and at Adam <Rhys> Good night, Adam. Lisl, if you'll just hand that over to me... <Tarri> ::makes another face, then shakes her head and turns back to the bar.:: <Lisl> Goodnight, Adam. I'll see you around later, I'm sure. * Adam leaves. <Lisl> ::grins at Rhys, brandishing the wriggling checkered mouse:: So take it already. I'm not letting go 'til you have ahold of it. <Vallel> ::patting Tarri on the shoulder comfortingly:: Could have been worse... she drinks Kick after all. <Tarri> ::grins at Vallel:: The thought crossed my mind, yeah.... * Sabrina finishes her water and brings her empty mug back to the bar. She grabs her book and glances once up at the rooms upstairs. "Well I should be getting home" * Rhys takes the mouse from Lisl, wrapping his hand securely around it, heading back into the kitchen and closing the door a split-second before another explosion makes some of the glassware jump. <Lisl> ::grins ferally:: I'm going to enjoy this. * Vallel gives Lisl a furtive glance, then looks at Tarri, grinning, and meows softly, under his breath. * Alec nods to Sabrina..."good night" <Tarri> ::giggles quietly:: <Rhys> Good night, Sabrina. Be careful. * Lisl turns her head to glare at Vallel. * Sabrina nods to Alec and heads to the door. "Night everyone" * Vallel finishes off his ale, smiling blandly at Lisl. <Tarri> ::waves:: Good night, 'Brina! <Lisl> I'm sure Rhys could spare a few for the Tower, Val. Or the Music Box. <Vallel> Oh! Brina, before I forget... a glazier's coming by tomorrow to fix the window. <Lisl> I wonder what they eat? <Tarri> ::giggles again, then looks at Val:: So, what *have* you been up to? <Rhys> I'd rather not spread this plague into the city, Lisl. I know you're teasing, but still... * Sabrina nods to Vallel "Oh good. I'll see you there maybe then" She heads out <Lisl> ::chuckles:: Yes, sir. <Vallel> ::shrugs::: Work... school... it's been sort of quiet. <Tarri> ::grins:: Quiet must be nice. <Lisl> Perspective. Feeling any better, Tarri? * Lisl takes another swallow of 'kick. * Alec takes a sip of his ale <Tarri> ::smiles at Lisl:: A little. But then, I just had a cup and a half of tea, too. Ask me again around sunrise. <Lisl> ::chuckles:: Do you really want me to? <Tarri> ::grins:: Why not? I don't get a sleep-shift again until mid-day tomorrow. * Vallel shakes his head. "Definitely coming by to see you. Poor thing." <Lisl> ::grins:: Fine. No more tea. And if you're still awake, I'll show you what I put in it. <Tarri> ::smiles at Vallel:: It's not that bad... I got to sleep this morning. <Tarri> ::to Lisl:: If I'm still awake, I definitely want the recipe. Though it *really* could use some honey or something. <Vallel> Well, your training's a lot different from mine. Tyl's primary concern was making sure we got enough sleep and food. <Lisl> Yes, well, talk to the slave driver. ::jerking her thumb at Vallel:: * Vallel looks slightly wounded. <Tarri> Well... You're using different resources than I am. ::she smiles and pats Vallel gently on the arm:: <Vallel> ::snorts:: Yeah, well... <Tarri> ::grins:: If it makes you feel any better, the first-years are kept on a very strict schedule with lots of sleep and stuff. But they skipped me over that year because of the prior experience I had... ::she smiles:: * Lisl takes a swallow of 'kick. * Lisl slams her foot down on the tail of another scurrying mouse, reaching down to retrieve it and passing it over to Rhys. <Tarri> ::jumps slightly at Lisl's sudden movement:: * Alec looks at Lisl * Rhys picks up the mouse and sighs. "There's got to a better way to do this than one at a time." He zings it across into the fire, where it goes up in smoke as soon as it hits the flames. * Vallel opens his mouth to make a suggestion, then shuts it again, muttering to himself. * Rhys eyes Vallel. "Yes?" <Vallel> ::shaking his head:: I'm not sure my control's that good yet. They're awfully small, individually. I wonder if there's some way to make them all come out at once. <Rhys> If Kevil or Sabrina were here, I'd see if they could replicate a story I used to hear as a child... but I don't know for sure if it's possible. Or if Sabrina would even consent to it. <Lisl> ::eyes Vallel sidelong:: Got a flute that could do the trick, Vallel? ::grins a little:: * Alec thinks calling them out is a stupid idea * Vallel reaches into his bag, pulling out his pipes. "Always." * Tarri eyes Vallel, then carefully pulls her feet up onto the barstool. <Vallel> ::shrugs, putting the pipes to his mouth:: What the hell, Yb likes me anyway... ::looks around nervously:: Which is not always a good thing. * Alec shakes his head..."we're screwed" * Vallel takes a deep breath and begins piping a strangely compelling tune, stepping out into the middle of the floor. * Rhys reaches under the counter and pulls out a large burlap sack. <Lisl> ::raises an eyebrow at Alec and frowns a little before turning to watch Vallel:: <Lisl> ::softly:: Got another of those, Rhys? * Rhys absently pulls the sack in two, producing a second copy, leaving his original untorn. "For you, lady..." He passes the sack over. * Lisl blinks and looks at Rhys dubiously, accepting the sack. * Vallel turns in a slow circle, his eyes closed, his fingers rapidly dancing over the pipes. <Tarri> ::watches Vallel with wide eyes:: <Lisl> ::mutters:: Erdian, I damn well hope you're listening... <Rhys> ::a mouse pokes its head around the corner of the bar, a curious expression on its bemused little face:: * Alec looks at the mouse <Rhys> ::two more heads pop around the corner, one on top of the other, also listening to the tune:: * Lisl catches Rhys's eye and nods towards the mouse. <Vallel> ::his playing speeds up as he turns:: <Rhys> ::the heads disappear back around the corner momentarily, and the mice soon reappear, walking on two legs, their front paws balanced on the "hips" of the mouse in front of them. A long line starts to wind its way out from behind the bar, picking up speed as the song does:: * Tarri blinks at the line of dancing mice in surprise. * Lisl blinks, her jaw dropping open. * Alec gets up and watches the mice..."what the hell?" * Vallel opens one eye cautiously, then closes it again, continuing to play. * Rhys slowly opens his sack and sets it in the path of the dancing rodents. <Lisl> ::shakes her head slowly:: Things like this are what make life worth living... just when you think you've seen everything there is to see in this world... * Vallel plays faster still, his hands nearly a blur up and down his pipe, the music swelling to fill the Hall. <Rhys> ::the mice proceed along their path to the lip of Rhys's sack. The first one there wiggles its tail a bit, leaps up, and 'dives' up in an arc and down into the sack. The second mouse follows suit, and the third...::: * Alec watches the mice move about and jump inside...."i don't believe this" * Tarri wraps her arms around her knees and watches, rapt. * Lisl covers her mouth to smother a soft chuckle. <Rhys> ::after a few moments, the end of the line approaches. The last mouse does a little softshoe, bows, and gracefully dives backwards into the sack:: * Alec raises an eyebrow * Vallel stops playing with a gasp, his forehead damp with sweat. <Lisl> ::laughs out loud:: Praise Erdian... and thank you, Vallel. * Rhys holds up the sack, which starts wriggling and squeaking ferociously, the sound growing in volume with every passing moment. "Everybody *OUT*." * Vallel doesn't need a second warning, grabbing Tarri's arm. "Come on!" * Tarri glances at Rhys. "Yeah..." She runs with Vallel toward the door. * Alec takes a few steps back * Vallel bolts out the door, his face mildly worried. * Alec grabs his cloak and heads for the door * Lisl shakes her head, grabs her mug, and heads out the door at a walk. * Alec throws his cloak over his head as he heads outside <Rhys> ::the bag begins bulging in odd places and *growling* starts to emit from it:: Lisl, kindly shut the door when you leave, please? * Alec puts the hood up and walks down the alley * Alec disappears into the streets <Lisl> Will do, Rhys. ::glances over her shoulder once before shutting the door firmly, her hand moving in front of it in an odd pattern. "Hope my key still works..." <Rhys> ::As soon as Lisl closes the door, Rhys barks a few words and a massive explosion detonates in the bag, blowing out the fire and all the lamps, leaving the hall in pitch blackness:: <Rhys> There. I think... that did it. <Lone Mouse> Squeak? <Rhys> Fuck. |
