<Bood> ::around noon, Bood comes running up the pathway towards Ellesmere. He runs with a loose, loping stride that he's settled into after having a lot of time to figure out what works best for him. He's wearing more beat up pants and a slightly thicker shirt than he wore when he visited the Hall, and is carrying his staff:: <Bood> ::a pack rests on his back, its strap running over his left shoulder, across his chest, above his right hip, and back to the pack. He stops outside Ellesmere, catches his breath for a few moments, then knocks on the door:: * Lisl stands in the back yard of Ellesmere, the sun over her shoulder, facing a wall. Her vest lies on the ground to one side, and she bears a knife in her right hand. She stands in a fighter's crouch, duelling her shadow. * Bood walks over to the side of the door and, after a quick check over his shoulder, peers in through the closest window. "Hello? Fer-- Fenr-- Lisl?" * Lisl pauses, wiping sweat from her eyes with the back of her hand, and cocks an ear. After a moment she relaxes her position with a sign and trudges around the side of the house, looking about. <Lisl> ::frowns a little, seeing Bood peering in the window:: Mas-- Bood? * Bood swings his pack around so he can reach in the top, and pulls out a waterskin. He starts to stoop over to leave it in front of the door, and jumps a bit when Lisl addresses him. "Ah! Oh. I didn't hear you coming... Um, is this yours?" <Lisl> ::raises an eyebrow, mounting the steps and eyeing the waterskin with a faint grin:: Well, it was. <Bood> Well, thank you. ::he looks at the waterskin, and holds it out, uncertainly.:: It was good water. And I think it helped. I was better the next day. Mostly. Except for that one time I fell down, but I'm not sure that was related. <Lisl> ::chuckles and takes the waterskin:: You looked like you could use it. And I figured you'd forget. ::smiling a little, nodding to his pack:: Are you on the job? * Bood nods. "Yes. Well, sort of. It's my midday break. I just found out this morning from one of the other boys that he thought you might be living out here now, so I thought I'd take the time to come out and check. And... um, well, here you are." <Lisl> ::nods:: Here I am. ::gestures to a chair on the porch, hooking her ankle around another one and pulling it to her to sit:: I should probably leave a note on my door, or something... ::frowns a little:: generally, though, the people who know me can find me. * Bood looks at the chair confusedly for a bit, then pulls it over and collapses gracelessly into it. "Well, I can tell the boys, and anything that would get sent to your other house we can try to remember to re-route out here." <Lisl> ::grins:: If it makes odd noises or smells like rotting meat, you're welcome to leave it at my *other* door. * Bood looks at Lisl curiously. "Do you get things that make odd noises or smell like rotting meat?" <Lisl> Not often. Sometimes. ::grins wider:: Call it "hate mail." <Lisl> ::shakes her head:: I'm here for my friend's lying-in... far as I know, I'll be back at my regular address soon as she has her son. * Bood swallows a bit. "I'll try to keep that in mind about the packages... I may just chuck them in a canal, actually, if it wouldn't inconvenience you too much. And congratulations on your friend's baby. What makes you think it'll be a boy, though?" <Lisl> ::laughs, and nods:: Not a problem. I don't get a great deal of mail, anyway. ::shrugs a shoulder:: She said so. Mother's intuition. * Bood cocks his head to one side and shrugs. He looks into his bag. "Um, not to be impolite, but do you mind if I eat? It is my lunch break, and now that I'm sitting down, I'm kinda hungry." <Lisl> ::waves a hand:: Suit yourself. ::blinks a little:: Actually-- I'm being a horrible host, aren't I? Want something to drink? Ale? Meade? ::hefts the empty skin:: Water? <Bood> Water, please. ::reflexively:: I don't drink much while I'm running around. It just makes you thirstier. ::he reaches into his bag and pulls out a smallish, circular loaf of bread, which he starts tearing bits off and eating:: <Lisl> ::nods:: Wise. Be back in a moment, then. ::she disappears around the back of the porch, and into the house:: * Bood continues to tear bits of his loaf of bread, eating and chewing contentedly. He looks around a little bit, seeing what lies near the house and what other roads pass by. * Lisl returns several minutes later with the skin of water, bulging comfortably and dark with waterstains. In her other hand, she carries a wooden plate with a hunk of sharp cheese and a pile of slices of cooked venison. <Lisl> Here... bread's not enough to run on. ::overturns a wooden crate and plunks down the plate on top of it as she hands Bood the waterskin:: * Bood coughs a bit as he sees Lisl come back laden down with food. "Um, wow. That's a heck of a lunch." <Lisl> ::grins:: I won't force you to eat it all, don't worry. * Bood juggles bread and waterskin for a bit. "Really? Me? Are you sure it's okay?" <Lisl> ::raises her eyebrows a little:: Sure. Believe me, I've got a whole deer on ice in there ::jerks a thumb over her shoulder towards the kitchen:: and plenty more where that came from. ::points to the woods:: <Lisl> Besides, you hiked all the way out here, least I could do. * Bood looks from the food to Lisl and back to the food again. "Well, then, thanks!" He begins to eat the food, slowly at first, but then wolfing it down. * Bood shakes his head, swallowing most of what he had in his mouth, and holding a hand over his mouth when he talks. "Not that far. Okay run." <Lisl> ::chuckles a little, snagging a slice of meat with the point of her knife:: Not too fast-- you don't want to make yourself sick if you've got more running to do. * Bood jerks his head back a little bit as he swallows on bit. "'S'okay. This one time, I was delivering this package to these importers, and they'd just finished this party, and said I could eat whatever I wanted of the leftovers... I ate more things that I didn't know what they were that day than I think I have since." <Lisl> ::laughs, watching him eat with something like fascination:: Chew, swallow. It's not going to run, trust me. So, how'd you like your first visit to the fabled Meade Hall? * Bood slows down a bit to talk. "It was... different. The guy with the eyes was something else. And the fox-girl. And I don't think I've seen a master bard before. But everyone else seemed pretty normal. Except for you drinking that... kick? Kick." <Lisl> Yes. Mulekick. Heh. Actually... ::leans back in her chair, looking thoughtful:: Lots of new faces, that night... both the man and the girl you mentioned are new... you were new... ::grins:: Kevil's a regular. * Bood grins. "So only the new people are normal?" <Lisl> ::grins:: Well, if glowing eyes and fox girls are normal... yes. ::scratches her head:: Actually... heh. Well, it's an adventurer's bar, after all. That *is* pretty normal, I suppose. * Bood stammers. "Oops. I said what I meant-- I meant-- the other way around. Only the new people weren't normal?" * Lisl snags another slice of venison from the plate and leans back to eat it, grinning. "Well... depends on how you define normal, I suppose. We've all got our quirks, I'd say." * Bood looks at the remaining slices of venison consideringly, and takes one. "Last one. I really shouldn't have too much. And, yeah, I guess you do have to have some quirks, if you hang around there much." <Lisl> ::grins:: I assure you, they come from outside, not inside. I mean-- the Hall doesn't make people strange. At least, not intentionally. ::chuckles:: Gods, I'm only making you more wary, aren't I? <Bood> Huh? I mean, no. Well, only-- I know about the Meade Hall. Sort of. I mean, you can't have lived in Marsember all your life and *not* know about it. Well, okay, you could've, but you'd have to be just blind or something. <Lisl> ::grins, amused:: Oh, there're plenty of townsfolk who're happy to disbelieve in us, I'm sure. <Bood> Well, it's like... in an inn, when some stinking northern barbarian tromps in, and sits in the corner, carrying an axe with a head the size of Torm's shoulder? No one talks about it, but by *not* talking about it, all everyone does is think about it. <Lisl> Heh... which is why said barbarian'd like as not come to a place like the Hall, if he could, instead of an inn. Unless he likes making the locals uncomfortable... some do. Or he intends to charge admission... <Bood> Well, yeah, but we're talking about us Marsembrians, though. Everyone knows about the Meade Hall, especially if they try to pretend like they don't. That's all. <Lisl> ::chuckles:: True enough. So... ::arching an amused eyebrow:: Did we live up to rumor? Will your friends be standing you drinks to your bravery, now? Or do you need to visit the Tower, too, for that one? * Bood flushes a little. "Well, maybe. Sort of. But, no, I'm not drinking for free or anything. And... the Tower?" <Lisl> The Tower of Erdian? Big hulking thing, usually on the edge of town unless it decides to be elsewhere? <Bood> Oh, yeah. We don't get much stuff that goes there. And it moves too much for us to want to run messages to it, anyway. <Lisl> Heh. No, I imagine Zoya uses her own messengers... and Gloss does her own shopping. And as for Val, he's got a business address. * Bood looks blankly at Lisl. "I didn't meet these people, did I?" <Lisl> ::shakes her head:: No, not unless you've run-- well, alright, Zoya doesn't get out much lately, but Gloss is in the market every so often-- green hair, can't miss her. And her husband, Vallel, owns the Music Box in town. <Lisl> ::shakes her head:: None of them came to the Hall this past Monday, but they're semi-regular as well. ::frowns a little:: I should drag Zoya back out, next week, in fact... * Bood squints. "I think I've seen green-hair... and I'm almost sure I've taken some stuff to the Music Box. New shop, two-stories... I think someone's singing in there, some days?" <Lisl> ::nods:: It's a music shop, I think they give lessons there, as well. And if it helps-- Glossaria is the Tower librarian. If you've seen her at all, it's probably been from behind a pile of books. ::grins:: * Bood nods, wiping his sleeve across his mouth. "I really gotta get going. More things to deliver." <Lisl> ::nods, standing:: Take the skin... it'll give you an excuse to drop it off at the Hall next Monday. ::grins:: * Bood stands. "If you say it's okay. If you need it, um... I usually stay at the Wayfarer, but I guess you figured that out already..." <Lisl> Heh... sorry about that, but I felt a little responsible for you. I wanted to see that you made it home alright. * Bood grins, hitching his pack up onto his back. "I did. More or less. I ran into some friends, and it took me longer than it otherwise would." <Lisl> And no need to ask my permission, it *is* a public inn, after all. ::smiling:: You'd be welcome. Just go light on the 'kick. <Bood> ::laugh:: I meant if it was okay for me to borrow the waterskin. And I think I'll lay off the kick, unless someone else finds out that it tastes a lot better mixed with something else. <Lisl> ::laughs:: Sure, I've got plenty of waterskins. And I don't know anything that *does* mix with 'kick. Even water doesn't do a great job, as you saw. * Bood walks for the steps. "Well, thanks for the food. And the water. And that sort of thing. I'll see you around!" <Lisl> ::grins and tosses off a casual salute:: Run well, Bood! * Bood spins and runs backwards for a bit, his arm flying up to return the wave, and then he turns back and resumes his loping stride back in towards Marsember. * Lisl chuckles and shakes her head, watching him for a little before turning to pick up the platter and carry it back to the kitchen. |
