* Sabrina is standing between two carts selling foods. She is wearing a bright blue dress and has a multi colored ribbon in her hair. She is singing a dancing song and there is a group of people gathered around her. There are a few children directly in front of her that are dancing. * Fosst is clenching a thick, stone-gray robe about his body, hooded. He walks into the marketplace, holding a large square case in one hand. * Fosst raises his head, and looks around at the sound of the singing. He begins to walk toward Sabrina, on the other side of the square with a puzzled expression on his face. * Sabrina finishes the song and begins a slower song. The children stop dancing and watch her and a couple in the crowd steps closer, holding one another. Sabrina smiles and continues to sing. * Fosst stops, about three yards off from Sabrina, and pulls back the hood of his cloak. He raises an eyebrow, and moves closer, looking around. * Sabrina let's her eyes roam the crowd as she sings. Her gaze crosses Fosst and she smiles a bit seeing him. * Fosst looks down at the foods curiously, and then looks up at Sabrina. He smiles, and stands listening to her amid the crowd. * Sabrina finishes the song and thanks the crowd. She smiles as some of the people ask for another and she promises to be back soon. She leans down and picks up a piece of cloth that has some coppers and a silver piece in it and tucks it away in her dress before making her way to Fosst {Good day to you Fosst} she says. * Fosst nods to her as she approaches. {Good day, Miss Sabrina--Perhaps you understand that where I am from, there are very crass things associated with public performance. Like many things, I believe I am mistaken here... what was that, just now?} * Sabrina blinks and shakes her head. "I am afraid I have only had one lesson. I didn't quite understand all of that." * Fosst smiles. "I have only had--two weeks, now? Euh... What was that dancying, now?" * Sabrina smiles and nods "The dancing songs are the children's favorites. I can never get away without singing a few for them." * Fosst says, "Aah--then, I was mystaken. These cultures can vary greatly, quite." He smiles. "It ys good fortune to find you here--are you, busy now?" <Sabrina> They can, and do vary greatly. And aside from looking for something to eat for lunch I am free for a while. Can I help you with something? <Fosst> "I could have some lunch, as well. Yf you know of a good pub, I would be honored to--take the bill?" ::hmms slightly:: "You see, I wysh to find my way around Marsembyr. Only a few kynds of shops I find very interesting." * Sabrina smiles and gestures to a side street. "There is a place that Master Kevil mentioned to me. He said it's very good for lunch. Although I insist on splitting the bill." She smiles and leads him down the road. * Fosst watches her striding off into the crowd, and hoists up his case to quickly follow before he loses sight of her. He mutters to himself, {There's clearly more to learn here than I thought originally...} * Sabrina makes her way through the crowd, glancing back and then slowing some. She stops outside the small restaurant and looks to make sure that Fosst is with her before stepping in. * Fosst closed the ground between them with odd quickness, and wipes his brow as he follows her in. "It's hot here, in Marsembyr... and so many people! Y've heard of battles fought wyth fewer." * Sabrina chuckles and nods as she finds a table and sits. "It must be cold where you are from?" * Fosst removes his massive cloak and slings it onto his chair, then slides his case under the table. He's dressed in a simple tunic and black trousers, his stark black hair tied in a large, complex knot that rests between his shoulders. <Fosst> "It ys... this, you see, is a lyght coat. I undyr-estymated the... heat, of this place. I was worried it wouldn't be enough." <Sabrina> Well it is unseasonably warm here from what I have heard, but yes even that coat would do in the very cold here. ::she smiles as the serving girl approaches:: I think I would like a water and the roast beef. ::the serving girl nods and looks to Fosst:: * Fosst rubs his temple, and looks pensive. "A pitcher of water, and... potatoes... carrots, and veal." He looks up, and nods, vaguely seeming satisfied with himself. <Sabrina> ::the serving girl nods and walks away:: * Sabrina smiles to Fosst "So what kinds of shops are you looking for Fosst?" <Fosst> "I've eaten too much fruit at the Mydehall." ::sighs a little:: "It ys beginning to lose it's exotic taste." * Sabrina giggles and nods. <Fosst> "Well--I've been lookyng for all the... apothycaries? --that I can find. After that, I must fynd employment, perhaps at one--books are very costly." <Sabrina> Apothycaries, I do not think I know what that is? <Fosst> "Ah! The first word in a time that I have used incorrectly. I was doing well for a long while." ::thinks briefly, thumb on chin:: "The stores where are sold the plants I showed you from the book, in the Mydehall. Where I am from, they are very rare, but--I have found one already here." * Sabrina looks thoughtful for a moment. "I'm not sure I know of any, but I will keep a look out. Perhaps Michelle would know, or maybe Glossaria." * Fosst looks up. "Glossary..?" * Sabrina giggles. "Glossaria. She is one of the people that goes to the hall, although I do not think she has since you have started coming." The serving girl returns with a pitcher of water and two glasses. * Fosst takes the pitcher and fills both Sabrina's and his. He drains his full glass quickly, and looks more relaxed afterward. * Sabrina drinks about half her glass and sighs softly and then drinks the rest. "It's been to long since I have sung for such a long time" <Fosst> "I see... I thought that was a book, though." * Fosst smiles. "Your singying was very pleasant. How long has it been, synce your training began?" * Sabrina shakes her head. "No, although she likes them an awful lot." <Fosst> {Really?} ::hmms, as he pours a second glass, more casually this time:: <Sabrina> A few months now ::smiles:: Kevil is a strict teacher, but I like him, and he is the best bard I have ever known. * Fosst looks surprised. "Only--months? --But, how were you trained, as a chyld?" <Sabrina> I was not trained as a child. I ::she looks down and then reaches to pour more water for herself:: I have only been training a few months now. <Fosst> "Oh--no noh noh, I didn't mean--you sing very byutifully. The chyldren all were dancing! But... well, I see." ::makes a somewhat irritated expression before taking a sip of water:: * Sabrina looks over to Fosst and sighs softly. {I'm sorry. I am a bit.....not comfortable talking about my past} <Fosst> "Then--chyldren in Marsymber do not... train?" <Sabrina> No I am sure they do, I did not grow up in Marsember. * Fosst nods, and smiles. {I didn't mean to intrude, Miss Sabrina. As I've mentioned before, this place is altogether strange, though fascinating.} <Fosst> {Oh! Then, we both meet in this strange place as strangers to it.} ::smiles:: <Sabrina> {And I did not mean to make you feel as if you were.} ::she smiles and nods before drinking her second glass of water down completely:: * Fosst fishes around in his pocket for a moment, and pulls a small handful of coins out. He counts the coins, and then chuckles. He looks up and says, "Do you want to see the money of Uthgardt?" * Sabrina nods and leans forward over the table looking curiously. * Fosst sets an animal's tusk as long as a person's index finger on the table. It has silver inlay tracing lines up and down its length like a woodgrain, and small bands of gold with tiny, cryptic symbols covering it like rings. * Sabrina reaches for the tuck and holds it gently. She turns it over in her hands and looks at it closely {It's beautiful} * Fosst grins, pleased. "You see, it represents property. The tooth is not valuable except as beauty and for the metal--in Uthgardt, it represents two hundred cattlehead, or fifty servants, or ten warriors." <Fosst> "Not like Marsymber--these coins, the gold is what they are made of, and what they are worth." ::shakes his head, and drinks some water:: "It was very, very difficult to explain to the guards..." * Sabrina looks surprised and carefully places the tusk down. "Wow" * Sabrina nods. * Fosst nods. "You may have it, if you wish. It is of no--money value outside Uthgardt, and I will not return soon." * Sabrina blinks. "Oh I...I couldn't." * Fosst lowers his eyebrows. "Are you sure? It myns nothing to me--I would rather part with it, honestly. It holds no beauty to me." * Sabrina looks down at the tusk. "Oh." <Fosst> ::the serving girl returns, and places the piping hot plates of food on the table before Sabrina and Fosst:: * Sabrina smiles to the girl and begins to eat her lunch. * Fosst nods to her with a small smile, and begins to eat. <Fosst> "Did I mention, that one of those tooth can buy twenty-fyve apples?" ::smiles, and helps himself to the potatoes:: * Sabrina takes a sip of water and looks to Fosst. "Well perhaps you should keep it then, as much as you like the fruit here." she smiles to him. * Fosst shrugs. "The fruit here, though, is far less expensyve. And much frescher." * Sabrina nods and continues to eat. * Fosst finishes off the potatoes, and looks disappointed. "Less expensyve, but--less. Ah well." He continues to eat. * Sabrina raises an eyebrow to him "You do not like them?" * Fosst looks up. "Hmm? Yes, they are quite good. Just a little--little. Kevil has very good tastes, I think." He chuckles. "Can you see it, in his clothes?" * Sabrina blinks and then nods "He does have very good taste." <Fosst> "It is a good restaurant he told you of. Does he have, brothers? He looks noble." * Sabrina looks thoughtful. "I do not know. I know that he has sisters, but I have never heard him mention brothers." * Sabrina finishes her lunch just as the serving girl returns. * Fosst sips from his water. "Systers, I see." He sees the girl approaching, and stacks his empty plates. <Sabrina> ::the serving girl takes the empty plates and leaves the bill:: <Fosst> "About Glossarya--does she work in a book's store?" ::he sets his due portion of the bill on the table for the serving girl:: * Sabrina fishes some of the coins out of her pocket and leaves her half. "She does in a way. I do not know that she actually sells book, but she works in a library." * Fosst raises an eyebrow. "Library?" * Sabrina nods "She has lots and lots of books there, from what I understand" * Fosst looks surprised. "Oah! And--hmm. Are they for anyone to... read?" * Sabrina smiles "I am sure Glossaria would be happy to share them. I'll be sure to introduce you to her when she next comes to the hall." * Fosst looks to about let his eyes bug out of his head. "Please, do! Books, I fynd very interestying--an apothycary only has so much thyngs to learn." He looks very pleased, and finishes off his water. * Sabrina smiles, her eyes twinkling. She watches him finish his water. {All done?} * Fosst sets down the glass, and grins. {Yes, thank you. As you've been very kind to dine with me today, let me extend my thanks. Would you like some practice speaking Uthgardt?} * Sabrina nods as she stands {I would, very much} * Fosst stands and pulls the large, leather-bound case out from under the table. He carefully sets it upright, and takes his cloak. {It's the very least I can do for as charming a new friend as yourself--I only wish there were any songs at all in Uthgardt that weren't somehow battle hymns or opera.} * Sabrina waits for him to be ready and then heads out. The streets are mostly empty now. {Perhaps we can write one then.} * Fosst smiles. {Perhaps--Uthgardt is remarkably easy to rhyme. Fully one third of the words end with "en" or "dt".} * Sabrina nods and looks thoughtful. <Fosst> {I'm sure you've noticed, of course.} * Fosst peers at Sabrina. {Something on your mind?} * Sabrina blinks and glances over at him "Humm. Oh, no I.." she flushes a bit "Just thinking about writing a song." She sidesteps a few running children and chuckles as one of them stops and rushes back to her. <Sabrina> :;The little girl is wearing a light gray dress and has golden hair. She tugs lightly on Sabrina's dress:: Hello Miss. Brina. * Fosst looks down at the child, expression distant and thoughtful--then he smiles, and looks to Sabrina. * Sabrina smiles down at the girl and gently pats her on the head "Hello Anna. What can I do for you?" Another little girl approaches them and Sabrina smiles to her. <Anna> Can you show Mary the princess Miss. Brina? ::Anna glances to Fosst but then looks back to Sabrina hopefully:: * Sabrina glances to Fosst "Umm would you mind waiting just one moment?" <Sabrina> * Sabrina glances to Fosst "Umm would you mind waiting just one moment?" * Fosst bows, and replies, {Time is the one thing I have in abundance, milady.} He moves over to sit at a bench just outside the restaurant's entrance, setting down his case and pulling back his hood. * Sabrina smiles to him and moves with the girls just out of the street. She sits next to him on the bench and the girls sit in front of her. "Now then. Which princess Anna?" <Anna> The princess with the hair like mine. Ummm I think she was Belle * Fosst watches with interest and an amused expression. * Sabrina nods and smiles to the girls. She begins to sing about Princess Belle. After a moment an image shimmers and forms in front of her. The image is of a young girl leaning against a window looking out. She has beautiful golden hair. As Sabrina sings about Belle going riding on that afternoon the image show the princess leaving her castle and riding on a black horse through the fields. <Sabrina> ::the children watch closely, both smiling:: * Fosst wipes his brow, and continues to watch, although with a bit less amusement and much more interest. * Sabrina closes her eyes and continues to sing. The story that she sings is played out in the image before her. * Fosst continues to watch, eventually putting his hand on his chin becoming engrossed with the illusion. <Sabrina> ::after another minute the song ends softly and the image shimmers away. The girls clap and jump up. They both hug Sabrina and thank her before running off:: * Sabrina turns and smiles to Fosst. * Fosst turns an amazed expression to Sabrina. "M... months?? Many Uthgardt women train all their lyves and never do... that! That was incredyble!" * Sabrina smiles "I'm not sure how I do it, it just kinda happens. I think about the picture in my mind and it appears for others to see." * Fosst scratches his head, clearly grasping at words. "Art-of-ghosts... like art-of-ghosts, then." <Sabrina> Art-of-ghosts? * Fosst thinks for a moment. "Ah--I belyve Lisl referred to art-of-ghosts as, psyonics?" * Sabrina nods "Oh. Maybe, I'm not sure." She stands. * Fosst takes his case and stands. He bows to Sabrina. {Please excuse my haste--these things I purchased must be taken to my room at the Meade hall before they spoil. Shall we meet there, to practice your Uthgardt?} * Sabrina smiles and nods to him {I would like that.} * Fosst grins. {Excellent! Then I'll see you there. I'll be waiting for you in the pub in about an hour.} * Sabrina smiles to him, and bows a bit before turning and heading off back towards the market. She turns and waves. * Fosst begins to move into the crowd, and looks back at Sabrina. He waves, lowers the thick hood of his cloak, and vanishes into the crowd. |
