* Sabrina approaches Ellesmere, whistling to herself as she goes. She knocks lightly on the door as she reaches it. * Lisl sits in the living room, carefully cleaning, sharpening, and polishing a set of hunting knives. At the knock on the door, she goes to open it, knife still held carelessly in one hand, stone in the other. * Sabrina smiles brightly at Lisl. "Hello Lisl. I am here for my lesson." <Lisl> ::blinks a moment:: Lesson... Ah! Language lessons, right. ::opens the door wider and smiles, gesturing her in:: I offered to Kevil, but he opted to get it from the horse's mouth, so to speak. So he doesn't pick up my "atrocious accent." Like he could tell... ::snorts:: actually, he probably *can*. ::shakes her head as she leads Sabrina to the living room:: * Sabrina follows Lisl into the living room and nods as she listens. She smiles a bit, hearing Lisl's comments on Kevil. "I appreciate your offer to teach me. I look forward to the opportunity to learn a new language." She takes a seat on one of the couches and looks at Lisl. "There was something else I was hoping you might be able to help me with as well." <Lisl> Well, I've spent some years there, off and on, in my younger days... I can't promise you'll speak like a native, but for what it's worth you can make yourself understood in a pinch. Oh? Something else? ::raises an eyebrow as she returns the knife she's holding to its sheath and starts to pack up her tools:: <Sabrina> ::nods:: Anything you can teach me would be more than I know now, ::she smiles:: and perhaps would help Fosst feel more comfortable here, knowing that people are taking an interest in his homeland. ::she folds her hands in her lap and continues:: <Sabrina> Kevil has been teaching me the basics of self defense. When he offered I was still very unsure to do so even with him, and it was mostly at his persistence that I agreed. ::she takes a breath and looks pointedly at Lisl:: I would like to continue learning defense, and I was wondering if you would be willing to teach me. <Lisl> Well, I think your making the effort would be what put Fosst at ease... his homeland isn't... well, they do things very differently there. ::cocks her head to one side, considering Sabrina:: What has Kevil taught you so far? And what exactly makes you uncomfortable about having him as a teacher? Because he's male, and men have treated you badly in the past? <Sabrina> ::she smiles:: Not at all. I think I am more comfortable with Kevil than anyone else. He has taught me just the very basics about using a dagger. He has not really pressed to teach me more than that, and I feel like I should know more. <Sabrina> It's not that I am uncomfortable having him as a teacher, as much as I would like to be able to work with a woman to learn in this area. I think it would work the best for me that way, and I think Kevil would prefer it as well. <Lisl> ::nods, and considers her hands as she wraps and ties the neat bundle of tools, absently slipping one of the knives into her boot sheath:: Do you have anything specific you'd like to learn? * Sabrina looks thoughtful for a moment. "Well since Kevil has already taught me some with the dagger that would seem the best route to go. But I know very little past what he has taught me, so I really do not know. Do you have any suggestions?" <Lisl> Well... you mentioned wanting to learn with a woman... ::faint smile:: Are you asking because you want to learn how women fighters move, or because you want to learn certain tricks that might be, ah, hazardous to Kevil's manhood to teach? * Sabrina laughs, her cheeks turning a slight pink. "Well, I had not thought on that. Perhaps that is why he did not persist in teaching me more." She chuckles a bit to herself and shakes her head. "I think I wanted to learn more about how women fought. Realize that I have no aspirations to become anything more than well skilled. I just..." her face darkens a bit. "I have found myself in to many situations that I have not been able to get out of." <Sabrina> I never want to be put in those positions again. ::said under her breath:: Never... <Lisl> You've been raped? ::said calmly and directly:: <Sabrina> ::nods:: On more than one occasion. <Lisl> ::nods, and asks, a little more quietly:: Do you want to learn how to kill? Do you think you have the stomach for it? * Sabrina looks down at her hands. She begins to slowly twist the silver ring on her finger around and is quiet for a long moment. She then looks at Lisl, her gaze seeming almost cold. "I was ten the first time I was forced to lay with a man. For nine years it happened, almost daily. I lost four children, and had to leave behind one." her head nods the slightest bit. "Yes I think I do, and no question have the stomach for it." <Lisl> ::neutral nod, asking again in the same tone:: Do you want to? <Sabrina> ::she nods:: Yes. * Lisl thinks for a long moment, studying Sabrina's face. * Sabrina returns Lisl's gaze, her own is determined. <Lisl> ::letting out a sigh:: I'll teach you Uthgardt... and bare-handed defense, and staff, so that you can protect yourself. I'll make sure you know enough about knife-fighting that you don't get yourself into worse trouble... but I'm not going to teach you killing techniques, Sabrina. You're free to learn them elsewhere, but it won't be from me. I've seen too much revenge-killing to encourage it. * Sabrina nods and looks down at her hands again. She takes a deep breath and looks back to Lisl, her face a bit brighter. "Thank you, Lisl." <Lisl> ::nods gravely:: Sabrina, if you like... ::draws a piece of paper and a stub of pencil to her and writes down an address, pushing the page towards Sabrina again:: It's not the greatest portion of the city-- this is the edge of the red-light district, but there's a priestess of Hanali who ministers to the prostitutes in the area. Talk with her... she may be able to help you find a measure of peace with your past. * Sabrina blinks and takes the paper. She looks at it for a long moment and then looks up to Lisl, her eyes bright. "Thank you Lisl. This means a lot to me." She tucks the paper away in a pocket. <Lisl> ::smiles:: Now then... hope you've practiced your gargling. Uthgardt has a *lot* of gutturals... [fade out] |
