* Sabrina is standing with a young woman in the Music Box. She is talking softly to the woman about harps and holding some music in her hands. * Kevil enters the store, his lute in hand and an enormous smile on his face. He sees Sabrina is with a customer and sets the lute on the counter, going over to a cabinet on the side of the store and rummaging for strings. * Sabrina glances up and smiles seeing Kevil. She goes back to her customer, and they chat for a few more minutes before the woman thanks Sabrina and then leaves the shop. Sabrina approaches Kevil, grinning. "Hello there" * Kevil returns Sabrina's grin as he tightens a new G string. "Good day, apprentice." <Sabrina> You look happy. Have you come to grill me ::she grins wider:: <Kevil> Yes! Nothing makes me so happy as a thorough grilling, you know! ::he grins again, and seats himself on a stool:: * Sabrina nods and walks behind the counter. "May I give you your midwinter present and visit with you a bit before the grilling" Her expression becomes serious for a moment. "I have some news to share with you" <Kevil> ::raises an eyebrow:: Very well - what news? * Sabrina pulls out a piece of paper from under the counter and holds it as she sits on a stool across from him. "There is a new young man in Marsember. He got here a few weeks ago." Her expression becomes uncertain "He is the mage who saved me from the attack I was in before I came here." <Kevil> I see. Has he come to take you back? <Sabrina> Oh no ::she shakes her head:: It seems, from what he said, that he followed behind me in the portal. Something happened to the time between when I went through and when he went through. <Sabrina> He can't get back at the moment. I ::she pauses:: I do not know exactly what he is planning to do. <Kevil> ::nods:: Very well... Has the young man a name? <Sabrina> ::nods:: Ardem. He is staying at the hall for now. <Kevil> Anything else I should know about him? * Sabrina looks over to him, thoughtful for a moment. "He seems overly interested in me. I think he just thinks I am pretty and stuff." she looks down and flushes just a bit. <Kevil> ::grins:: Ahhh... Are you interested in him? ::he eyes her mildly:: Idle curiosity, you understand. * Sabrina looks up and smiles at him "I have not really known him long enough to know. I'm happy with my life the way it is now though. I think for now I'll simply be happy to become better friends with him." <Kevil> ::nods:: Very well. Are you ready to sing yet, or is there more stalling? ::he grins:: * Sabrina grins and stands. She walks over and hands him the piece of paper "Always more stalling" * Kevil glances down at the paper. * Sabrina goes back to the counter and pulls out an mandolin. She turns back and grins at him "Note the new instrument, and there will be singing." She begins to play. She lived in a world of shadows The sunbeam grew bright in her life She slowly stepped into a world The sunbeam grew bright in her life Just when she thought her world was complete The sunbeam grew bright in her life She thinks of him now as her sunbeam The sunbeam grew bright in her life Her world that once was a nightmare * Sabrina plays a bit of the chorus at the end and then finishes. She lays aside the mandolin and smiles at Kevil "Happy midwinter" <Kevil> ::smiles as the last chords fade:: Very nice. And I thank you. ::he stands to bow elegantly:: * Sabrina smiles "Ok I think I am ready to be grilled now." she grins <Kevil> ::chuckles:: I am now sufficiently mellowed, do you think? ::he sits back on his stool:: <Kevil> Very well - since you have begun on the mandolin, let us hear what else you have learned for it. * Sabrina giggles and nods. She picks up the instrument again and begins to play a variety of scales. She smoothly flows into a piece that he left with her to learn, having made a few changes to it so it would flow better on the mandolin. <Kevil> ::listens carefully as she plays, nodding slowly and offering a running commentary:: Good. Good... No, I would go lower rather than higher there... Yes... Your fingering there is terrible; we will work on it... Good... And good! ::he smiles:: Not bad at all. * Sabrina smiles at him and flexes her fingers as she lays aside the instrument. "I was wary at first. I didn't think I would like it. But I have come to enjoy playing it greatly" <Kevil> ::nods:: As you learn more instruments, you will find each new one an adventure. <Sabrina> I'm looking forward to it. ::she grins:: <Kevil> As well you should. Now - the voice. Impress me. ::he folds his arms across his chest:: * Sabrina nods and folds her hands together in front of her. She begins to sing from one of the pieces of music he gave her. The first song is fairly simple and she flows easily from it into a more difficult one. She watches him as she sings, her eyes studying his face as the notes pour from her. After a moment she flows easily into a third and more difficult song. This song is a love story and she closes her eyes a few notes into the song.... <Sabrina> ::as she sings images of Tarri and Sanriel shimmer into being in front of her. They more or less act out the song as she sings it and shimmer away as the notes fade from her lips. She opens her eyes and looks to Kevil expectantly:: <Kevil> ::smiles:: *Much* better control. Very good! Now play and sing. * Sabrina nods and goes into the back room to retrieve her harp. She carries it out and sits on a low stool near him. She checks it to make sure it is tuned properly and then begins to play. She sings more from the selections he left for her, the songs easily flowing one to another. <Kevil> ::closes his eyes to listen, concentrating, nodding slowly. When she finishes, he looks up:: It is easy to tell which songs you like best. The... ::he frowns slightly as he counts back:: third song - it needs a great deal of work, d'va? <Sabrina> ::nods:: It was the most difficult one for me. I was hoping with the ease of the harp I would get it perfect. ::she sighs:: I just need to work a bit more at it. <Kevil> ::nods:: The others are well... Play it again, and we will review... * Sabrina nods and plays the harp a few minutes before beginning the song in question again. She watches Kevil as she sings it. * Kevil joins in this time, pitching his voice to sing the same line she is singing, though several octaves deeper. * Sabrina listens to him as she sings and works her best to match him. <Kevil> ::nods as the song draws to an close:: Better... However, on this phrase... <Kevil> [fade] |
