* Jaret sets a medium sized pack down by his door, next to a long wooden box that has metal corners and a sound lock holding it closed. He looks at it and sighs quietly. "Haven't I just finished unpacking these?" * Temire approaches Jaret's house. She's dressed in her usually plain breeches and shirt, a well worn cloak wrapped around her and her conch shell hilted sword at her hip. She's also carrying a small package in one hand. * Temire knocks on the door. * Jaret answers it, immediately, nudging the pack aside slightly with his foot as he does so. "Temire! To what do I owe the pleasure?" * Temire looks surprised at the sudden response then smiles, "Well I don't think I had a chance to tell you I was back in town. Michelle told you I went to Waterdeep didn't she?" * Jaret nods. "I think I heard that from... I can't remember where. It's good to see you're back. Please, do come in." * Temire follows Jaret in, removing her cloak and sword and hanging them on the pegs, hanging her package up as well. * Jaret closes the door behind Temire, helps her out of her out of her cloak, and then gestures to the study. "Can I get you anything? I think I have the makings for tea in the kitchen, still." * Temire smiles, "Thank you Master Jaret. I'd like that." * Jaret laughs a little. "So formal. Very well, Pupil Temire, if you'll make yourself comfortable or wander about the study, whichever you choose, I'll be back with some tea shortly." * Temire giggles, "Sorry. Old habits...And I still feel a lot like a child around most of you." * Temire has a seat in the study. <Jaret> ::Jaret's laugh floats back as he heads to the kitchen:: I suppose I can see that... <Temire> So how have you been? * Jaret comes back with a tray, two cups on saucers, and a teapot on a small trivet. "I've been busy. Out and about, and then some local trials and tribulations of my own back here. I suppose I could say I'd like a little quiet time, but quiet time gets old too quickly." * Temire laughs, "I've never had that experience but I suspect I probably will at some point." * Jaret grins at Temire. "I remember being more acutely affected by it in my youth. Still, most days I feel it quite keenly." He pours Temire a cup of tea. "Sugar or cream?" * Temire shakes her head, "Neither thank you." Temire takes the cup and saucer, sipping the tea. * Jaret pours himself some tea and adds a few lumps of sugar to the cup. "I know it's not Hall-quality, but then again, so little is." * Temire laughs, "It's alright. I suspect when I have a family of my own I'm going to have to hire a cook just so I don't feel bad about not being as good a cook as Michelle or Nacheyla." <Jaret> It's something I've considered, but the hours I've been keeping lately have been on the irregular side, and I wouldn't expect someone to cook for me at all hours of day and night. Still, it does have its appeal. * Temire nods, "I don't think it's practical unless you actually have a family that keeps regular hours. Roni didn't bother until he bought a house for him and Ilya to live in. I suspect if it weren't for Ilya he wouldn't have bothered." * Jaret nods. "Roni is... Ilarion Quilisian? Who's Ilya?" * Temire nods, "Ilya's his daughter. Her mother didn't want her since having a child would keep her from getting a 'good' marriage." It's obvious Temire would like to give the woman a good beating. * Jaret delicately raises an eyebrow. "How... gauche, of her. It sounds like she's in better hands here, then." * Temire nods, "Course Roni had her at some boarding school. She bawled her eyes out when she thought I was going to steal him away. I think the two of them living together is doing her a lot of good." <Jaret> Yes, it does. Some of my best memories from my childhood are from being with my father, and what we did together. I doubt similar memories would be born in a boarding school, although I'm sure he had her in one of the finest quality. * Temire nods, "If her mother hadn't already instilled a merchant's mind set on her I'd worry about her not knowing the value of money the way he spends it on her. Course, I had to explain to her that some things can't be bought and shouldn't be sold." * Jaret nods and sets his teacup down. "An important lesson. How old is the girl?" * Temire thinks, "Eight, maybe seven. I was told, but only once and that was a few months ago." <Jaret> She's at the age when I imagine you'd notice if a birthday had come and gone. * Temire smiles, "Very true." * Temire finishes her tea, "Jaret, do you remember when Tyl and everyone went to stop the slavers?" * Jaret nods. "I was leaving town on business of my own at the time, or I'd have liked to have been along, to atone for earlier errors, but... things just didn't work out that way. I understand you got in a spot of trouble that night?" * Temire looks embarrassed, "The only trouble I got in was that I wasn't supposed to be there." * Jaret nods. "That matches up fairly well with what I heard. Did... I assume no one got hurt because of what you did? No one that mattered, at least?" * Temire shakes her head, "Not that I heard. And given that everyone scolded me for how someone could have gotten hurt... * Jaret nods. "Well, now that I'm done usurping your conversation, what did you want to say about that day?" * Temire smiles, "It's alright. What I wanted to ask you was that during the fight Dulcea used this neat style with a sword in one hand and her petticoats in the other...I was wondering if you would teach me." * Jaret grins at Temire. "I have little experience fighting with petticoats, mine or someone elses, however, since it was Dulcea, I expect she was just using a variation on cloak fighting. I do know something about that, and I suppose I could teach you. I'm sort of erratically in town though, you understand." * Temire smiles and nods, "Well I am still taking classes at Tyl's school, and training with Yohko-sensei, and occasionally popping off to spend time with Aldis, not to mention trying to enjoy life and pitching in where I can with Nacheyla so I think I can accept an erratic training schedule." * Jaret laughs. "I suppose you can." He nods his head toward the foyer, and the conch rapier. "I hope the blade is still adequate?" * Temire smiles, "It hasn't failed me yet. I keep thinking I need to start building my armory and my wardrobe around it, but with the exception of going to Waterdeep I do so little that it doesn't seem worth the expense." * Jaret chuckles. "I imagine you're only likely to get things to match it if you go out seafaring. It might be easier to build the wardrobe as you liked it, and let the sword stand out." * Temire nods, "I saw a few things while I was in Waterdeep, but I had to leave suddenly so didn't get a chance to do the shopping I had planned." * Jaret grins at her. "You can always go back. As far as I've heard, there are no plans to move Waterdeep from its current location." * Temire laughs, "This is true, but I think Roni would have kittens if I left right now." * Jaret shrugs, a look of mischief on his face. "So take him with you. Him and.. Ilya? Both. Get fast horses, teach the girl to balance on the fore of the saddle, and leave. Let wonder and amazement ripple behind you in your wake, as people boggle at who rode by them so fast, with such magnificent purpose." * Temire laughs, "Maybe next break. Master Bluestar isn't the most understand about sudden absences so I'm in enough trouble at the school already. And Roni's getting close to finishing so it would probably be easier to wait until he's finished." <Jaret> As you wish, Temire. As I suppose I just said, Waterdeep isn't going anywhere. * Temire smiles and shakes her head, "I certainly hope not. So where are you planning on going with magnificent purpose?" Gestures to the foyer and Jaret's travel gear. * Jaret looks at the packs by the door and his face darkens minutely. "Far south. And not quite a magnificent purpose, but settling unfinished business. I'd rather leave it in the past, but... " He shrugs. "... I should not have let it lie fallow for so long as it is." * Temire looks at Jaret worriedly, "Anything I can do to help?" * Jaret chuckles. "You're already in trouble in school, you said. This is a bit much, Temire. I... I know you're tired of hearing that, but in this case it's quite, quite true. You know I'm not supposed to talk about these things, but if you're in a scholastic mood... ask Yohko or Glossaria about yuan-ti. I'd like you to have a little more experience under your belt before you meet one." * Temire nods, "It doesn't bother me as much as it used to...I proved a few things to myself on the way to Waterdeep." Brushes her white lock of hair behind her ear. * Jaret looks at the lock of hair curiously, but doesn't pry. "That's good. How have you been lately? I know you're busy with all the studies and whatnot, but, are you enjoying it all?" * Temire smiles and nods her head, "I can't remember ever being happier." * Jaret relaxes into his chair. "I can't tell you how good it is to hear you say that, Temire." * Temire looks curiously at Jaret. * Jaret shakes his head. "It was just... there was a time, a while back, when you seemed so dreadfully unhappy, and it was suggested to me by certain parties, that since I might be partially responsible for your state, I should talk to you about it, and try to rouse you out of it. I meant to, but never seemed to get the time. I don't know how well it would have worked even if I had found the time." * Temire tilts her head in thought for several moments, "I don't think I know what you mean." * Jaret looks at the ceiling. "This would have been... shortly after Nacheyla's ascension, I think." * Temire blinks, "How would it be your fault that I was feeling inadequate. I'm inadequate compared to nearly everyone who frequents the Hall, not just you." * Jaret grins impishly at Temire. "I think what was considered to be my fault was that while I was happy to play with you on the practice grounds, you were thought to have been interested in play in other arenas." * Temire blushes and fidgets in her seat, suddenly examining her feet, "Oh...that..." * Temire looks around the room for several moments, then asks, "So when will you be leaving?" <Jaret> So, for many reasons, I'm glad to hear that you've found happiness. And I'll be leaving on Tuesday, if everything goes according to plan. I'm half expecting things not to, but I thought I'd do my part. * Temire smiles, "Sounds like lessons will have to wait until you return then." <Jaret> I'll send notice when I've returned. I think I have a fighting cloak that will work for you, so don't concern yourself with acquiring one just yet. * Temire blinks, "Is there a difference. I thought any cloak would do so long as you didn't mind getting holes cut in it." <Jaret> It's nice to have the hemline be weighted, so you can swirl and snap them out a little more cleanly than otherwise, but a regular cloak will do in a pinch. * Temire smiles, "I'm lucky I know such skilled instructors. It would have taken me forever to figure that out on my own." <Jaret> This is one of the benefits of being taught things, as opposed to picking it up for yourself. But I can see why you'd think that, after watching Dulcea fight. After all, the petticoats weren't weighted. * Temire nods, "Well if you're leaving Tuesday I should probably let you finish getting ready." Temire stands up. * Jaret stands up. "Thank you, Temire. If you need anything, just drop a note off here, and I'll get it as soon as I get back." * Temire smiles, "Okay. You just be sure to come back. It would be embarrassing if I had to come rescue you after all. And I wouldn't advise repeating the one adventure I've had that you haven't." * Jaret grins. "I always come back. And what adventure have I yet to experience?" * Temire frowns slight, a distant look in her eyes, "Dying." * Jaret reaches out and touches Temire's arm. "I'm planning on putting that one off for a while, even. Don't worry about me." * Temire nods, "I won't worry too much, but it's something that has to be said when I know you're going into a dangerous situation." * Jaret grins. "Life is a dangerous situation. But thank you." * Temire gathers up her belongs, putting her cloak and sword back on, and picking her package up. <Jaret> Say hello to Yohko and Michelle for me. * Temire smiles and hugs Jaret, "I will. I'll expect lessons when you get back." * Jaret grins. "You better be ready." * Temire returns the grin, "Try not to wear yourself out old man." Temire winks as she heads out the door. * Jaret laughs. "Master Jaret when she arrives, snarky comments when she leaves. It's good to see my corrupting influence is still in top form." * Temire laughs as she heads back into town. * Jaret closes the door and looks down at his packs with a sigh. "Right. Now, where was I..." |
