* Meghan approaches Jaret's door slowly. She is wearing brown breeches and a white cotton shirt. Her hair is back in a braid and she is carrying Abby on her back, in a backpack looking contraption. She steps up to the door and knocks gently. * Jaret is home, in his study, carefully reading through a stack of documents. He looks slightly tired, like he hasn't slept much lately, but he looks completely awake and alert. He's dressed in a plain white ruffled shirt and black breeches. He looks up when he hears the knock at the door. "Yes?" * Meghan grins a bit "What you don't come answer your door anymore? I have not been gone that long." Her voice is amused and loud enough that Jaret would hear her. * Jaret stands up and sets the papers aside. He cocks his head slightly to one side. "Meghan? Is that you?" He opens the door. "It is you!" He steps out and gives her a hug. "Welcome back. Please, come in!" * Meghan laughs and hugs him back. She steps inside and turns to smile at him. "I'm just visiting for a bit." She shrugs the backpack off and takes Abby out, placing the backpack near the door. "Yes yes love. I know." She grins and holds Abby out to Jaret. "Here" * Jaret takes Abby from Meghan and raises her high up in the air before bringing her down, resting his cheek against her head. "Oh, look at you! You're getting bigger!" <Meghan> ::Abby waves her hands at Jaret and makes baby noises:: * Jaret chuckles lightly and kisses Abby on he nose. "It's good to see you too." * Meghan smiles and watches them. "Besides Michelle you are the only other person she has been missing." * Jaret chuckles and rubs noses with Abby. "I'm honored, little girl." He grins slyly at her. "Are there any suitors of yours out there I have to intimidate, or have the eligible bachelors of the world not yet learned of you?" * Meghan beings walking to the study "Nothing for you to worry about yet. She has been kept pretty secluded." * Jaret turns to follow Meghan, holding Abby to his chest, doing slow sliding dance steps around his foyer, generally heading in the direction of the study. "Ah, very well then." * Meghan sits in a chair and watches them for a moment. "It's good to see you Jaret." * Jaret completes his little dance and settles on the edge of a chair, facing Meghan. "It's good to see you again, too, Meghan. How have you been, Meghan? You look well. You said you'd been... secluded?" * Meghan nods and settles back. "Not far, but Sissra keeps people away. I have been well, busy but well" she smiles "And you? You look tired, and not so well" * Jaret kisses Abby on the top of the head and looks pensive. "Things have been... rough. I was out of town, on work, and Lini was framed for a murder. I've been trying to work it out, and get her released, and her conditions improved, but... there's a lot of prejudice to work through, and it's been slow going." * Meghan looks surprised and then nods. "I'm sorry. I'm sure you are doing all you can. Is there hope of her being released soon?" <Jaret> I'm really not sure. This sort of legal wrangling... it's a bit past me. For all I know she could knock at that door and walk in any minute now. Or she could be executed tomorrow. It's not as precise as I'd like it to be. * Meghan frowns and nods, looking thoughtful. "I'm sorry I didn't find you in happier spirts. I do hope that everything works out." <Jaret> You and I both, Meghan. Oh, where are my manners. Can I offer you some water or tea or something? <Meghan> Water would be nice. * Jaret stands and hands Abby back to Meghan. "I'll be right back, then." Jaret heads out of the study and back into his kitchen. * Meghan takes Abby and bounces her lightly. "So how are things other than the Lini situation?" * Jaret comes back in with two mugs of water, one of which he hands to Meghan. "Oh... all right, I suppose. I really haven't done much since I got back than look into all this, so there isn't much else to talk about." * Meghan takes the mug and nods, taking a long sip. Abby has a fistful of Meghan's shirt and looks up at her "Ma" she says loudly. Meghan smiles down at her. * Jaret looks at Abby and grins. "She speaks! Wonderful! Does she know any more words?" <Meghan> Just simple things. Ba and Ma mostly. * Jaret grins at Abby. "I'm sure you'll be chattering on nonstop in no time at all." * Meghan rolls her eyes. "Don't encourage her." She looks down and then back up at Jaret. "Do you know how Michelle is?" <Jaret> I... I think she's fine. I think she's still out at Ellesmere. I've seen her on the Hall some nights, and she seems to be in fair spirits. * Meghan nods. She pulls a letter from her pocket and hands it to Jaret. I would appreciate it if you could deliver this to her." * Jaret takes the letter. "I suppose I can... are you sure you don't want to deliver it yourself?" * Meghan nods and looks back to him. "I can't. Sissra only allowed me a short visit to one person. I need to go back and finish what I started with her. I don't know what I would be able to leave again if I saw 'chelle." She smiles "It will be hard enough for me to go back after having seen you." * Jaret grins slightly. "I'll take that as a compliment, and not as a challenge. I'll get the letter to Michelle." * Meghan smiles "I knew you would." She stands and hands Abby back to Jaret. "I was getting very homesick. To the point that it was distracting me. So We decided it would be best to take a short break. And Beth is happy to be able to visit with her parents." * Jaret takes Abby back and tickles her tummy gently. "Beth?" * Meghan nods "She came with us to watch over Abby. Sabrina found her for me." <Jaret> Ah.. very well. How... what have you been doing? <Meghan> Mostly learning ::she smiles to him as she sits back across from him:: Learning how to learn you might say. Understanding my empathy without distraction. * Jaret nods. "It sounds... it sounds like something I am glad I don't have to do, to be honest. Still, I'm glad you're visiting." * Meghan laughs and nods "I thought you might be, which is why I am here." she smiles "That and I truly did miss the pleasure of our conversations." * Jaret smiles ruefully. "I'm sorry I don't have a more joyful topic to dwell on with you, though. But it is nice to see you again. When do you think you'll be returning to our fair city for good?" <Meghan> A few more weeks I think. I'm not completely sure though. I hope it will only be a few weeks. <Jaret> Well, I'll hope that it'll be even sooner than that. * Meghan grins at him "Because you miss my daughter or because you feel sorry for me?" <Jaret> Because I miss you and your daughter, and you don't sound like you're completely happy doing what you're doing. * Meghan nods"I'm not completely unhappy. I miss Michelle, a lot. But I know that I would not be where I am if I didn't go and do this, and in the end that it will be better that I went." * Jaret finds a brightly colored hair ribbon on table and lets Abby grab it and then lightly tugs at the other end. "Well, then, I'll still wish you an early, successful graduation from your studies." * Meghan chuckles and nods "I appreciate that." She stands. "I am afraid we must be going." * Jaret stands, and holds Abby to his chest, a playful grin on his face. "Well, you have fun. Abby and I will be waiting for you when you return." * Meghan chuckles "Be careful. I might take you up on that offer" she winks at him. * Meghan walks to the door and places the empty backpack on and turns her back to Jaret "Could you put her in please?" * Jaret laughs. "I don't think you actually would. Of course." He carefully seats Abby in the 'pack, fastening her in carefully, and tickling her under the chin as he finished. "There she is. All settled." * Meghan nods and turns back to him smiling "Thank you, for everything." She reaches to hug him close for a few moments. * Jaret returns the hug, one hand back for Abby to grip on to. * Meghan mumbles lightly against Jaret's shoulder. "Tell 'chelle I miss her, and love her." * Jaret nods. "I will." * Meghan pulls back and brushes her cheek lightly. She smiles up at him. "Tell Lini I said hello. I hope you can get her out soon. I trust you will one way or another" * Jaret smiles. "Thank you for your trust. If you return and find wanted posters with my charming visage on them, you'll know which road I had to take." He winks. * Meghan grins as she steps out into the afternoon. "Just be careful." She reaches to touch his cheek "As always, I like you much better in one piece." * Jaret grins. "I like me much better in one piece, too." * Meghan chuckles as she steps away "So I have heard. I will see you again soon." <Jaret> I hope that's the truth. Good day, Meghan. <Meghan> It is. Good day to you too, Jaret. ::she turns and walks back towards the river:: * Jaret leans a forearm against the door post and watches Meghan walk away until a cold wind slices through the doorway, and he shivers and closes the door. |
