* Michelle unlocks the door and announces, "Hall's Open!" * Michelle returns behind the bar. She is wearing a simple plum dress. * Vallel walks in, wearing a plain brown tunic and black trous. <Michelle> Good evening Vallel. What can I get you? <Vallel> ::smiles at Michelle:: How about some good advice? And a beer? * Michelle picks of up a mug and fills it with beer. "What do you need advise on?" <Vallel> Whether or not to listen to someone else's advice. * Michelle blinks at Vallel and sits on the stool behind the bar, "Am I going to need a drink before hearing this story?" <Vallel> ::nods glumly:: Probably. * Michelle snags a wine glass and opens a bottle of Arabellan Red, "So what happened?" * Glossaria enters the Hall, dressed in her favorite tan-and-green gown and carrying a scant two books under her arm. A quill-- still wet from the black streak it's left on her hair-- is stuck behind her ear. <Michelle> Good evening Glossaria, what letter of the alphabet are we up to? <Glossaria> ::smiling brightly and depositing a peck on Vallel's cheek in passing as she takes a stool:: K. Any recommendations, or should I consult my index? <Vallel> Master Kevil says... ::he takes a deep breath and then speaks really quickly:: He says that Meghan is still in love with me and that I really need to sit down and talk to her, rather firmly about all this... which I don't really want to do, and I thought if anyone would know, it would be you. Is it really necessary? * Michelle sets her glass down and sighs, seeming to shrink on her stool. "It shouldn't be, but for whatever reason Meghan is ignoring all the evidence in front of her. She's not here tonight because she's trying to avoid you in an attempt to get over you...On the other hand, that was part of the reason we went on the quest and you've seen how well that worked." * Glossaria looks from Vallel to Michelle, and remains silent. * Michelle turns sadly to Gloss, "You'd better consult your index Gloss, I'm not feeling particularly creative tonight." * Glossaria nods and pulls a slim red volume from an inner pocket of her cape. <Vallel> ::sigh:: * Michelle sips her wine, a sad expression on her face. <Vallel> I'm so sorry... I never meant any of this to happen like this. ::he rests his chin on his hands:: * Sabrina walks into the Hall. She is wearing a simple light blue dress and her hair is braided back and hangs over her shoulder. She walks up to the bar and takes a seat a bit away from the others. * Michelle puts a hand on Vallel's arm. "It's not your fault Vallel. It's life. We all go through it. Meghan just needs to learn that there are things in life you can't do anything about and to accept them when you encounter them." * Glossaria runs her finger down a list, murmuring, "Kahlua, Kirsch, Kummel... hmm..." She looks up. "May I start with 'Kahlua' please?" <Vallel> ::looks at Michelle, seriously:: I know it's not. ::points to his head:: I know it here... but ::points to his chest:: this isn't so sure of that. * Glossaria nods agreement with Michelle. * Michelle appears to be lost in thought for a moment. "Do you want that Kahlua straight Glossaria, or mixed with milk?" * Sanriel opens the door for Tarri, smiling and chatting with her <Sanriel> Here it is! * Sabrina sits quietly at the bar * Tarri enters behind Sanriel, looking around curiously before stepping fully into the room. She is a remarkably pretty girl of about 18, with very very short blonde hair and enormous green eyes. She looks a little shy, and very overwhelmed. <Michelle> ::To Sabrina:: Good evening stranger. Welcome to the Meade Hall. Can I get you anything? <Sanriel> ::looking around inside:: Vallel, Lady Michelle! Hi! <Glossaria> Whatever you think best, Michelle. Is it usual to mix it with milk? ::glances over her shoulder at the newcomers and smiles at Sanriel, giving him a little wave:: <Sabrina> ::softly:: water please <Vallel> ::not turning around:: Hullo Sanriel... <Sanriel> ::to Tarri:: Come on, it's okay... everyone here is really friendly. ::smiles encouragingly:: And my roommate is over there at the bar. * Michelle shrugs to Gloss, "That's the way I usual drink it, though there are more complicated drinks with it." <Tarri> ::half-hides behind Sanriel, whispering:: (That girl's got green hair! And it's even shorter than mine!) <Glossaria> ::nods:: Then, with milk, please. * Michelle fills a shot glass with a thick brown liquid, then pours some more of the liquid into a mug. <Sanriel> ::grinning, speaking back softly:: She's Glossaria, and she's the one teaching me how to read and write. She's very smart and very sweet. * Michelle sets the shot glass on the bar. "I'll be right back." <Vallel> Seriously, Michelle, do you think I need to... be that... ::shrugs:: I don't want to hurt her. <Tarri> ::blinks:: Not... Glossaria... Anobium? <Sanriel> ::nods slowly, looking curious:: Yes, I think so... do you know her? <Tarri> I don't.. I've heard of her... ::looks a little pale:: * Glossaria turns around at the sound of her name and smiles. "Yes? I'm sorry, have we met?" * Rufus walks in, takes a long look around, and walks softly to Sabrina's side. <Sanriel> ::takes Tarri's hand and pulls her to the bar:: It's okay, really... I'll introduce you. * Sabrina runs her fingers lightly across the bartop and then folds them in her lap <Rufus> Evening, Sabrina. It's time to go. Now. * Sabrina looks up her eyes wide with surprise * Tarri resists for a moment, then lets San pull her along. <Sabrina> ::softly:: I told Marie I wanted tonight off * Michelle returns from the kitchen with the mug and sets it on the bar in front of Glossaria. <Sanriel> ::smiles at Sabrina and the new man:: Hi, I don't think we've met. <Rufus> Marie doesn't make any decisions. I do. You work tonight. <Sanriel> ::brings Tarri to Glossaria:: Lady Anubium, this is Lady Manriel. A new friend I made just today. ::grins:: She's working for Lady Bluestar. * Vallel jerks, turning around, knocking his beer over, spilling it all over the bar. <Michelle> ::to Rufus:: Welcome to the Meade Hall stranger. Can I get you anything? <Sabrina> ::blinks:: But I......I've not had a night off in 2 weeks. * Sabrina slides off her stool and backs away a step <Rufus> Sorry, no. Sabrina and I will be leaving shortly. ::reaches into his purse:: I'll pay whatever her bill is. * Michelle rights Vallel's mug and begins cleaning up the spill, watching the two strangers. <Glossaria> Lady... Manriel? ::looking nonplussed, and starting as Vallel's beer spills over her dress:: * Tarri curtseys to Glossaria. "Lady Anobium, I'm very happy to meet you. But Master Tailorson has... I'm not a Lady..." * Michelle shrugs, "I hadn't gotten to her order yet." <Vallel> ::his voice cracking:: Tarri? * Rufus shrugs matter of factly. "And you're paid for it." <Sanriel> ::looks oddly at Rufus, his eyes opening wide and going blank:: What... those poor girls.. no.. you can't *make* them do that! * Sabrina looks at Sanriel her eyes going wider * Sanriel starts to collapse. * Tarri belatedly notices Vallel, and her face turns white. She backs away from the bar. <Rufus> Well, then, I suppose we have no cause to stay around here any longer. ::takes a step to the door:: Sabrina? Coming? * Michelle looks at Sabrina, "Is this what you want?" <Vallel> Oh, hells! ::grabs Sanriel's shoulders, keeping him from spilling onto the floor:: <Glossaria> Sanriel?! ::slipping out of her shock to catch him:: * Sabrina looks between Michelle and Rufus not moving * Rufus holds his hand out. "Sabrina... time's a'wasting." * Elgara'a enters, pulling her hood back from her face. "Mise el'kheer, my friends." She looks around with a raised eyebrow. "Many new faces tonight..." <Tarri> ::covers her mouth with her hands at San's collapse:: No! I didn't...! ::she glances at the door, but it is blocked by Rufus, so she edges toward the corner:: I didn't do it... * Michelle looks steadily at Sabrina, waiting for her decision. <Sanriel> ::quietly:: don't... go... * Sabrina looks at Rufus and whispers "I just need one night..." <Sanriel> ::his eyes roll back in his head:: * Michelle turns to Rufus. <Rufus> I'm afraid I can't do that tonight. Maybe tomorrow, but tonight I can't. <Vallel> ::looks at Sanriel, then turns to Gloss:: Take care of him... ::moves away from the bar:: Tarri? What are you... why are you here? <Glossaria> ::looking up from here she holds one side of Sanriel, to Sabrina:: Mistress... Sabrina, isn't it? What's the matter? Who is this gentleman? * Sabrina looks to Gloss "I work for him" * Glossaria nods and takes hold of Sanriel from behind, hoisting him to a stool by his armpits... surprisingly strong for her slight build. <Michelle> He's a pimp Glossaria. * Tarri backs away from Vallel, her eyes filled with tears. "I'm sorry, I didn't know... I didn't..." * Sabrina drops her gaze to the floor and begins to walk slowly towards the door. <Vallel> Tarri, please ::his voice breaks:: Please don't look at me like that. I'm not going to hurt you... ::he sighs:: Please... come sit down... for just a minute? <Glossaria> Oh! ::raising her eyebrows inquiringly, looking interested:: You're a prostitute, Mistress Sabrina? <Tarri> I just... ::she looks past Vallel at the unconscious Sanriel:: I didn't mean to... What's wrong with him? * Rufus keeps his hand out, and smiles at Sabrina as she walks to him. "That's a good girl." * Sabrina looks back at Gloss and nods slowly <Michelle> ::to Sabrina:: The only one who can change your life is you stranger. If you go with him you surrender your destiny to him <Vallel> ::shakes his head, looking over at Sanriel casually:: He'll be fine... he's a student, like me. He's having some control problems. ::sighs:: Like I did, but not nearly so dangerous. * Elgara'a frowns as she looks around at the little scene, eyes going from Sanriel to Sabrina to Rufus. Taking one step to the side, she puts her hand out, placing it on Sabrina's shoulder. "Wait." * Sabrina stops looking up at Elgara'a * Rufus raises an eyebrow at Elgara'a. "Excuse me, miss, but Sabrina and I both have work to do. Please allow her to proceed." <Tarri> ::looks back at Vallel:: He's a student at... But that means Lady Bluestar... ::she pales again suddenly, and sways. She sits rather abruptly in the nearest chair, looking from Vallel to Sanriel and back.:: <Elgara'a> Pray forgive me if I intrude, I am not so familiar with your customs, but..." ::cocking her head to one side:: "Do you wish to go with this man?" <Sanriel> ::blinks blearily and looks around:: What.. what's happening? What's wrong? ::looks worried at the scene with Tarri and Vallel and the one with Sabrina and Rufus:: * Vallel sits down, opposite of Tarri. <Sabrina> ::blinks:: I have little choice. He provides me food and a place to live. Without him I would ::she shutters:: I would have nothing * Tarri flinches slightly as Vallel sits, but doesn't try to move away. * Michelle shakes her head sadly, "There's ALWAYS a choice stranger. You just have to be strong enough to grasp it." <Sanriel> ::plaintively:: what did I say? <Elgara'a> ::her frown deepening:: Food and shelter are the basic rights of hospitality. He requires you to trade your person for these? * Vallel covers his face with both hands, his shoulders shaking. <Sanriel> Lady Manriel... are you okay? Do you know Vallel, too? * Sabrina nods to Elgara'a * Rufus coughs quietly. "I also *pay* you, Sabrina. It's not a king's ransom, but it's a great increase over abject poverty." <Sanriel> Val, what's wrong? * Glossaria looks anxiously in Sanriel's face as she repeats back his words. "Can you sit up on your own, now? You're heavy." * Sanriel looks lost, worried, and confused <Sanriel> Oh! ::blushes:: yes, I'm okay now... <Tarri> Val...lel? * Sabrina glances to Rufus and nods again then looks back to Elgara'a "It is the only life I have or know. I'm sorry I must go now." * Vallel scrubs both hands over his face, then glances at Tarri... <Sanriel> ::to Sabrina:: Umm.. Lady? My visions are usually true... ::blushes:: if I said don't go you *really* shouldn't... ::looks dubiously at Rufus:: * Rufus looks dubiously at Sanriel. "No offense, but shut up, kid." <Sanriel> ::shakes his head:: How about *you* shut up and leave the lady alone? * Sabrina glances back at Sanriel somewhat curiously <Vallel> Tarri... I... you... ::shrugs, looking helpless:: * Tarri looks meekly at Vallel. "I'm sorry, Val. I wasn't going to... Da' said I should just leave you alone, and I *wasn't* going to go looking, I really... ::a tear slips down her cheek:: I didn't know you would be here... * Rufus rolls his eyes at Sanriel. "Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm sorry I said anything. C'mon, Sabrina, let's get going." <Glossaria> ::looking at Vallel uncertainly:: Love? Are you alright? <Sanriel> ::stands and glares at the man:: I may not remember what I saw, but even a village man like myself knows something about how to treat people. They aren't cattle. <Michelle> Quiet Sanriel. Nothing you say is going to change his mind, and she needs to find the strength to ask for help before anyone can give it to her. <Vallel> Tarri... ::his voice cracks:: I... I tried to see you, before I left, but you wouldn't see me. I... I wanted to tell you how very sorry I am... <Sanriel> ::looking a bit shocked at Tarri's reaction:: Lady Manriel...? ::very concerned:: * Sabrina smiles softly to Sanriel and turn back stepping around Elgara'a * Sanriel blushes and nods to Michelle, muttering a quiet apology <Tarri> ::looks down at the table:: I know, Val. I... I heard you calling, but I... I was too afraid. <Tarri> And... ::she glances up, then looks down again, blushing:: ...and ashamed. * Vallel winces, running one hand through his hair... "I know... and I can't tell you how sorry I am. There's nothing I can do to make it up to you..." <Sanriel> ::looking surprised and still confused:: Ashamed for what? * Glossaria subvocalizes, "You could apologize..." <Tarri> ::glances at Sanriel and looks away, blushing even harder:: * Sabrina stops beside Rufus her eyes on the floor <Sanriel> ::blinks, eyes going wide suddenly:: Oh! You.. she... ::blushes furiously:: Oh no, Lady Mandriel, I'm so sorry, I didn't know... <Rufus> Thank you, Sabrina. Now, come on. We've got to get going. ::takes Sabrina's hand, and patiently leads her out the door:: * Sanriel looks over at Sabrina and Rufus for a moment, looking a bit hostile at Rufus, but glances at Michelle and keeps his mouth shut. <Tarri> ::glances at Sanriel, then looks back at Vallel:: You.. You *told* him? * Elgara'a glowers at Rufus's back, hand on the hilt of her jambiya. * Michelle watches Sabrina. * Sabrina slips her hand into Rufus's and follows him looking back into the Hall just once her face full of longing <Sanriel> ::quietly, blushing even further:: he's my roommate.. we.. shared stories of.. of how we found our abilities... * Michelle meets Sabrina's gaze as she exits. * Elgara'a tilts her head. "You will always be welcome here, young one. No one here will hurt you, this I swear." * Vallel flushes. "I did. I didn't think... that you would ever be here. And he needed some reassurances. We've all done... stupid things when our abilities manifest." * Rufus leaves the Hall. * Sabrina meets Michelle's gaze before she disappears from the Hall * Sanriel watches Sabrina leave, a bit sadly, then turns back to Vallel and Tarri * Tarri is beginning to lose some pallor. "You told him my *name*? You..." She glances around helplessly. "Vallel, how *could* you?!" * Michelle sighs and reaches beneath the bar coming up with a shot glass and a bottle of amber liquid. "Anyone else want one?" * Bluestar walks in, the depths of his cloak seeming to contain all of the night sky inside them. "Evening, everyone. And if that's remotely palatable, Michelle, I'd enjoy one." <Sanriel> No no no, he didn't tell my your name, really! ::still blushing:: Otherwise I would have recognized it.. oh damn, I'm sorry. ::looks very distraught:: * Elgara'a sighs and shakes her head, looking disgusted as she takes a seat at the bar. "I can but try." She looks up. "I do not drink alcohol, but I would appreciate some clean water to wash his stink from my nose." * Michelle shrugs, "Depends on your definition of palatable." <Glossaria> Master Bluestar! ::smiling:: How is your child? * Michelle puts a second shot glass on the bar and fills both before putting the bottle down on the bar. <Vallel> I'm sorry... I really am... ::hides his face in his hands again:: <Bluestar> Happy, healthy, and quite loud when he wants attention. Cwallie said I was looking like I could use a night out, so here I am. It's night, and I'm out. * Tarri looks up at Bluestar and shoves herself further into the corner. "Oh... No... Don't let Lord Bluestar find out! If he knows..." * Michelle fills a mug with water and places it in front of El. <Sanriel> ::jumps up quickly and more than a little nervously:: Master Bluestar! Hello! * Bluestar picks up the shotglass and hammers it back. He grimaces as he puts the glass down. "Ugh. Check the bottle, Michelle, it tastes like something died in there." * Michelle takes one of the shot glasses and tosses back the contents, then hurls the glass into the fire place [both shot glasses are unanimated]. * Michelle looks in the bottle, "Yep, one worm just like there should be." Michelle gets a second shot glass and pours herself another. <Glossaria> ::putting a comforting hand on Tarri's arm:: Shh, it's alright, Mistress Mandeil. Only a handful in a city of thousands here know, and fewer still would hold it against you. * Tarri stands up and curtseys to Bluestar, a little apprehensively. "Lord Bluestar. The Lady said I might..." She glances at Sanriel. "She said I might come." * Bluestar looks hard at Sanriel. "You... I know you... you're in my Intro lecture. Sit down, you look like a garden statue right now." * Bluestar waves at Tarri "Fine with Cwallie, fine with me." <Sanriel> ::nods quickly:: Yes, sir! * Vallel glances at Tarri, then drops his head onto the table, banging his forehead sharply against the surface. <Elgara'a> A thousand thanks. ::sips from her waterglass:: <Glossaria> ::looks up at Michelle's comment, giving her a horrified look:: <Sanriel> ::very quietly to Tarri:: I promise I don't care... and.. and I'm sorry for all this. <Michelle> Vallel stop that. The last thing we need is a psionic version of Yb. * Tarri curtseys briefly to Bluestar again before sitting down and looking at Gloss. "You, too?" She blushes a little. "Well. Yes, I suppose he'd have had to tell you." <Bluestar> I think I'll skip that quaint but disgusting fermented worm drink, and have some feywine, if you've got it. <Tarri> ::smiles weakly at Sanriel:: No, please, Master Tailorson; it's not your fault. I'm just... embarrassed. * Michelle smiles at Glossaria, "I don't know what kind, but not bookworm." Hands Gloss the bottle. <Glossaria> ::shakes her head:: It's alright. ::smiling brightly:: I could tell you some of *my*...ahem...::glances at Vallel:: embarrassments, if it would make you feel better. <Bluestar> ::looks perplexedly at Tarri:: "Me, too, *what*? Speak in comprehensible sentences, it makes a better impression." * Michelle snags a wine glass and fills it with feywine for Bluestar. <Sanriel> ::reaches over to squeeze Vallel's shoulder:: Sorry to you too, Val... now please stop, you're making *my* head hurt... <Vallel> Ow! ::rubs at his forehead:: Well, I haven't done that in a while... it actually hurts this time. * Bluestar looks askance at Vallel. "Practicing for a career as a doorknocker?" <Tarri> ::glances up at Bluestar:: I'm sorry, Lord. I was... I was talking to Lady Anobium. <Glossaria> ::smoothly:: You came in on the end of a conversation, Master Bluestar. Female matters. Would you care for me to explain in detail? ::giving him and inquisitive, helpful look:: * Vallel grins a bit ruefully at his instructor. "Not at all, Master Bluestar... just trying to get my brains to stop rattling around in my head." <Tarri> ::looks at Vallel:: Wh-What did you do that for, Val? <Tarri> ::looks at Gloss with something like horror:: <Sanriel> Oh! She just means that Vallel has told Lady Anubium about knowing Lady Mandiel from his home village, that's all. He'd told me, and we just met today and tonight figured out that she and he were friends, and I'm his roommate... ::trails off:: <Bluestar> No thank you, Glossaria. I'm sure I'll hear about it one way or another eventually, anyway. * Glossaria waves a quelling hand at Tarri behind her back:: <Tarri> ::looks at San, then smiles slightly:: Y-yes. Such a surprise... * Sanriel blushes at Tarri's smile and smiles back encouragingly * Elgara'a sips her water, lifting an amused eyebrow at the conversation. * Bluestar looks at Sanriel, then holds his hand up, the thumb almost touching the forefinger. "Brief lies. The fewer words the better." <Sanriel> ::blushes furiously and nods quickly:: Umm.. yes sir. Thank you. <Glossaria> ::smiles at Sanriel, a pious expression on her face:: And the truth is always better. * Glossaria turns her head and winks at him. * Tarri smiles a little wider at San, then looks again at Vallel, frowning slightly. Hesitantly, she touches the center of his forehead with her fingertips. "Val... What have you been doing to yourself?" * Michelle tosses her shot back, "Does anyone need anything?" * Bluestar has some feywine and looks around. "Nice crowd." * Vallel shrugs. "Beating my head against the wall... sometimes, it seems to help. Or, at any rate, I have too much of a headache to worry about other things." <Glossaria> ::frowning:: I didn't think the expression was meant to be taken literally, Vallel. * Sanriel blushes some more and quietly asks Michelle for some beer <Tarri> But I... I thought you were *happy* here. * Michelle quickly fills a mug with beer and sets it on the bar in front of Sanriel. It's about half foam. * Glossaria looks from Tarri to Val with a worried expression. <Michelle> Anyone else? <Sanriel> ::grins a little:: It's true.. he's woken me up a couple of times because of it. <Sanriel> umm, thank you, La.. Michelle. Are you alright..? <Elgara'a> ::smiles:: Perhaps a bit of bread, and some salt, Michelle sahim? <Vallel> ::looks at Tarri:: Things have been pretty difficult, recently... * Michelle disappears into the kitchen and comes out with a loaf of bread and a salt shaker which she puts down in front of El. "Anyone else?" * Sanriel sighs and mutters something about not making things any easier for Val <Tarri> Oh. I'm sorry. You're not... ::she looks down at her fingers, then back at him:: You're not going to go back, are you? <Tarri> I mean, you *are* going to... ::she glances at Gloss and flushes:: You're going to marry Lady Anobium, aren't you? <Michelle> I'll be back shortly. ::Michelle heads out the door:: <Vallel> Yes, I am. Trust me, she's not the reason... it's a long story, and one I'm sure wouldn't interest you... <Sanriel> ::smiles a little at Tarri:: Oh yes... they love each other a *lot*. ::grins:: It's enough to make a guy jealous. ::nudges Val slightly:: <Tarri> ::looks distinctly relieved, and smiles at San's ribbing:: Oh, that's good! I don't... ::she smiles at Val somewhat shyly:: I don't think I want to go back. <Sanriel> ::brightly:: Really? * Bluestar has some more feywine. <Vallel> ::shakes his head:: No, I don't belong there anymore. I'm not sure I ever did... ::sighs:: You must hate me... I am so... sorry about everything. * Elgara'a cuts a hunk of bread and picks up the salt shaker, frowning at it for a moment and turning it upside-down over her hand. "Ah." ::shakes her head, muttering:: "Even the salt is thin here..." <Tarri> ::looks surprised:: No, of course I don't hate you, Val! It... I knew even then it wasn't... it wasn't something you could control. It's just so... frightening... ::she shivers a little:: * Glossaria quietly twines her hand into Vallel's. <Glossaria> ::nods at Tarri's remark:: Yes, it's *so* much easier with fireproofing spells. <Sanriel> ::hesitantly puts a hand on Tarri's shoulder:: It can be... it's okay to be scared. <Tarri> ::looks at Gloss:: I don't.. What's easi- Oh! ::she blushes again as she realizes what Gloss means, then laughs a little:: <Vallel> ::nods, clearly thinking about something else:: Yes, it can be very frightening... <Tarri> ::looks at Sanriel, a little nervously:: Do you make fires, too? * Sanriel looks a trifle confused at the comment, then blushes again <Sanriel> Oh! no! Umm... I have.. visions. * Glossaria grins and looks anxiously sidelong at Vallel, giving his hand a little jiggle. <Vallel> Hmm? ::blinks, looking up at Gloss:: Oh, sorry... <Tarri> ::glances worriedly at Val, but obviously decides Gloss has him in hand, so to speak, and turns back to Sanriel:: Visions? What kind of visions? <Glossaria> It's alright. ::leans her head on his shoulder for a moment before straightening and taking a tentative swallow of her drink. <Glossaria> Oh! ::excitedly, whipping out her notebook and taking her pen from behind her ear:: It's like kaffe! But so sweet! <Vallel> Honey... ::peering at her:: You have ink in your hair. <Sanriel> ::nervously:: I think of the future, usually. But sometimes of the past... I black out when I have them, and.. say things. But I don't remember anything. <Sanriel> It's.. it's why I came here, to find Lady Nightstorm's school... <Tarri> That sounds frightening, too. <Tarri> Is that what happened... ::she gestures toward the bar where San had collapsed earlier:: <Glossaria> ::looking rather comical as she pulls on a strand of hair, rolling her eyes up to try to see the root:: I do? Hells. ::releases the strand and blows it aside:: I'm trying this new never-dip quill for the gnomes, and, well... it works quite well, but it never *stops* working.... <Vallel> ::looks over at Tarri, hesitantly:: It is controllable, though. I haven't had an accident in several months... <Sanriel> ::blushes a little and nods:: Yeah.. normally it's not too bad. I mean, I fall down sometimes, but it doesn't seem to hurt anyone, usually. * Bluestar chuckles quietly. "Fall down, go boom!" * Elgara'a takes another sip of water and, with a shrug, sprinkles some salt on her bread before taking a bite. <Tarri> ::to Val:: You're... learning to control it? That's good, Val. I.. That's good. * Sanriel blushes again and let out a little chuckle <Vallel> I could demonstrate, if you wanted... if it wouldn't make you too nervous... ::shrugs:: I did a fireworks performance for Mayor Praul a few months ago. ::his face darkens a little, remembering what *else* happened that night:: <Sanriel> ::nods quickly, grinning at Val:: He's really good, too! <Sanriel> Val.. it's over. Everything's okay now. ::smiles:: <Glossaria> ::grins and hugs Vallel's arm:: He gets *lots* of practice here! <Tarri> ::to San:: Well, you frightened *me*! I was afraid... I was... ::she blushes a little:: It's silly, but I was afraid maybe it was my fault. First Val, then you... <Tarri> ::looks at Val a little nervously:: I don't... Maybe just a tiny, *tiny*... Like a candle? * Michelle walks back into the Hall, "I swear, at this rate I'm either going to have to open a convent or a guild house." <Sanriel> ::shakes his head:: Oh no! It just happens sometimes, it wasn't your fault. I'm sorry I scared you like that, though... I *will* learn how to control it one day. ::smiles at Val:: Right? <Glossaria> ::cocking her head to one side as she looks at Tarri speculatively:: Actually, that could be quite a useful talent. Being able to knock men unconscious, I mean. ::she grins suddenly:: You'd be a real knockout! * Michelle goes behind the bar and pours herself another shot, quickly knocking it back. <Bluestar> Nice night, Michelle? <Sanriel> ::stands up when Michelle comes in:: Umm.. are you alright? <Tarri> ::smiles at Gloss:: Well, but I didn't knock Val out, did I? I just... He caught on fire. * Elgara'a looks at Michelle inquiringly as she chews. <Tarri> ::she runs a hand through her short-short hair:: Well, *I* caught on fire. * Sanriel blushes a little at Glossaria's comment and mutters something very quietly <Glossaria> ::grin widening:: That's another thing a knockout does! * Vallel nods... he takes a deep breath and blows on the candle in the center of the table. The flame flickers, then jumps off the candle, turning into a little fire man. The fire man bows to Tarri, then does a little dance across the table. A moment later, the fire man bows again and fades from sight. Vallel takes a deep breath and wipes his forehead, which is suddenly drenched in sweat. * Michelle shakes her head, "You wouldn't happen to know anything about a pimp named Rufus? I may need to pay him a visit in the near future." <Michelle> I'm fine Sanriel. * Sanriel nods to Michelle a bit reluctantly and sits down again <Bluestar> Sorry, no, I'm strictly working for Tyl's academy in Marsember. I have no other business interests here on a long term basis. * Tarri jumps when the flame jumps off the candle, but slowly leans back in, entranced by the fire man. When it disappears, she applauds softly. "That was wonderful, Val!" She looks at him. "It's very hard to do, I guess." <Sanriel> ::grins at Val's display and offers him some of his beer:: REally cool! * Glossaria beams proudly. <Vallel> ::takes Sanriel's beer and downs it:: Thank you. And yes, that degree of control is really hard. It's like trying to lift a boulder. * Michelle sighs, "Probably just as well. It wouldn't do any good if she doesn't decide that she's worth anything." <Tarri> Oh. You didn't have to do anything that hard for *me*, Val. <Vallel> ::looks at her, seriously:: Yes, I did, actually... <Elgara'a> ::swallowing:: Give her time. She has come before, has she not? I have seen her... <Sanriel> ::grins at Vallel and retrieves the mug:: Lady Michelle, may I have another beer, please? <Elgara'a> ::smiling ironically:; ...and I doubt it was at her place of business. <Elgara'a> I may be a man in the eyes of my tribe, but I am no kha'awal. ::looking wry:: <Tarri> ::shakes her head:: Oh, no! I mean... I'm not important, Val. I'm just... ::she shrugs:: I'm just a nursemaid. * Sanriel looks a little uncomfortable at Elgara'a's comments * Michelle takes Sanriel's mug and refills it before returning it to him, "You're probably right. It's just frustrating to KNOW how much she wants help, and not be able to do anything because she doesn't have the strength to SAY anything." <Sanriel> ::smiles at Tarri, speaking quietly:: That a pretty important job, too... <Vallel> You are important to me... the only friend I had at home... and what happened, what I did to you... has haunted me since I left. <Sanriel> Thank you, Lady Michelle. ::takes the beer and offers it to Vallel again:: <Vallel> No thanks... I'm still on a two a night limit, you know... ::glances at Gloss:: Although I think she's wearing my first one... <Sanriel> Lady Mandiel.. would you like anything? <Elgara'a> ::glancing over at Tarri's end of the bar:: It is a worthy task, illa'azim. My nursemaid was nurse, mother, aid and confessor to me. And even now, she instructs my khowwan in my wishes, during my absence. <Sanriel> ::grins at Vallel:: okay, then. <Bluestar> It's a *very* important job, thankyouverymuch. <Sanriel> ::smiles and nods at Elgara'a's:: Right! * Tarri looks at Vallel for a long minute, silently, then leans past Glossaria to kiss him very lightly on the cheek. "Thank you." She then turns to Glossaria and gives her a quick, tentative hug. "And thank you, too." * Sanriel grins happily and takes a big swallow of his beer * Michelle shakes her head and sips her wine. <Glossaria> ::smiling, surprised:: You're very welcome. But... what did I do? <Tarri> ::smiles at El and Bluestar:: Oh, yes, it's very important! I just meant... I'm not a great Lady or anything. * Vallel blinks several times, smiling. <Glossaria> ::blinking:: What difference should that make? Vallel can do that for anyone he wants to, can't he? <Sanriel> ::grins at Tarri:: I told you she was sweet. And heck, you're nursemaid for Master Bluestar and Lady Bluestar... that's close enough. <Glossaria> ::looking apologetically at Vallel:: I mean... it's *your* talent, love. <Glossaria> ::grins, looking slyly at Bluestar out of the corner of her eye:: Yes, and anyone who's brave enough to handle *their* son.... <Tarri> ::to Gloss:: You made it possible for me to leave. I didn't think I wanted to go, at first, but when I got here, and everyone was so kind to me, and no one was... ::she glances away for a minute, her eyes darkening:: No one thought I was... ::she sighs and looks back at Gloss:: If it wasn't for you, my Da' would still be trying to find a way to make me marry him. * Sanriel stifles a giggle at Gloss' comment, carefully looking away from Bluestar * Bluestar raises a finger. "I heard that." <Glossaria> ::looking confused:: Your Da' wanted you to marry him? Isn't that illegal? * Sanriel blushes and tries to hide * Glossaria looks over her shoulder and gives Bluestar a brilliant smile. "I should hope you did!" <Vallel> ::laughs:: I think she means me... ::looks relieved:: <Glossaria> ::blushing:: oh. <Sanriel> ::snorts some beer into his hand, laughing:: <Tarri> ::she giggles, blushing:: I mean, Da' wanted me to marry *Vallel*, still. He... ::she looks at Val suddenly:: Not that you're... I mean... ::she puts her hands over her face:: Oh... <Bluestar> Kids nowadays, I swear, absolutely no respect. ::squints at Glossaria & mutters:: And the odd things that they do to themselves to attract attention... ::slight grin:: * Michelle sips her wine. <Tarri> ::she glances over her shoulder at Bluestar:: And his son is *wonderfully* well-behaved. He looks just like his mother. <Sanriel> ::pats Tarri with his clean hand:: It's okay, I know what thinks are like in villages. ::smiles encouragingly:: * Glossaria leans over to Sanriel. "Watch this. I've been practicing." She turns on her stool to face Bluestar, sticks her thumbs in her ears, and waggles her fingers while she puffs out her cheeks and crosses her eyes. <Sanriel> But you're here now, right? And things are different. * Michelle shakes her head at Gloss's antics. <Vallel> ::looks at Tarri:: Seriously, it is different here... people don't care so much about that sort of thing... do they, love? ::looks at Gloss, rolling his eyes:: * Bluestar smiles a positively wicked smile. "Careful, or you just *might* get stuck that way." * Elgara'a glances over at Glossaria and coughs into her waterglass. * Sanriel laughs out loud and bangs on the table, shaking as he tries to stop <Tarri> ::she smiles tentatively at San:: But you don't... You don't think... ill of me? You're from a village, too... * Glossaria relaxes the pose and grins unrepentantly. "No magic without the bartender's permission!" She grins at Michelle. "And that was an *unmagical* version of the taunt cantrip! The gnomes taught me. Isn't it COOL?" <Sanriel> ::shaking his head, still shaking and smiling from the laughter:: Nah, not at all. Ma raised me better than that! <Bluestar> ::quietly:: Magic schmagic. * Michelle shakes her head, "You know, there's an orcish equivalent that's usually much more effective." <Sanriel> ::calming down and blushing a little:: I think you're very nice, actually. <Glossaria> Really? ::excitedly:: Can you show me? <Vallel> No... she can't. ::grabs Gloss's arm and pulls her back into her chair:: * Sanriel laughs again * Glossaria looks crestfallen, and mouths to Michelle, "Later?" * Michelle glances around the bar, "Not tonight. I think some of the patrons would probably hemorrhage to death if I did, and I'm too tired anyway." <Tarri> ::smiles, blushing:: Thank you. No one's been so nice to me since... For a long time. * Sanriel blushes and mumbles something <Michelle> Last call folks. ::Michelle finishes her wine and sends the glass off to the kitchen.:: <Vallel> ::looks a bit downcast:: I really am sorry... I can't imagine what you've been through... * Elgara'a smirks. "For every star in the night sky, Lady Michelle, I thank you." * Sanriel laughs again at Elgara'a's comment * Michelle giggles at El's comment, "I don't think I deserve that much thanks Elgara'a, but you're welcome all the same." <Tarri> ::smiles a little at Val:: Not so bad that I've been banging my head against the wall... * Glossaria looks questioningly at Vallel. "Not even after...." She breaks off, and waves a hand. "Never mind." * Elgara'a gestures imperiously. "Never refuse a Bedine's generosity, woman." * Elgara'a grins and takes another bite of salted bread. * Sanriel grins and drink the rest of his beer * Bluestar finishes off his feywine. "Well, this certainly has been a treat." * Elgara'a takes another swallow of water. <Tarri> ::looks around:: "Last call" means it's time to leave, doesn't it? That's what it meant at the inn back home... <Sanriel> ::nods, still smiling:: yes, it does. Lady Michelle? What do I owe you for the two beers? <Glossaria> Actually, it refers to the last offering of alcoholic beverages before the taps are closed off for the night. <Vallel> ::nods, getting to his feet:: Here, Michelle... ::lays a few silver coins on the bar:: I'm covering our table. * Michelle smiles, "Yes it does Tarri...Though some patrons have a tendency to take their time leaving." <Glossaria> ::looking faintly embarrassed:: Which, in common usage, has come to mean...what you said. * Michelle waves a hand at Sanriel, "Don't worry about it. I'm not up to doing math at this point." <Sanriel> ::smiles at Michelle and Vallel thankfully:: Thank you very much. * Bluestar fishes around in a purse and comes out with a handful of silver pieces. "Ah, what remains of this month's allowance. Here you go, have it all." <Vallel> ::glances at Bluestar:: At least it's the end of the month, sir. <Bluestar> Quite right, boy, quite right. * Elgara'a finishes the heel of bread and swallows the last of her water, dropping a silver onto the bar. * Michelle sweeps all the silver into the strong box. * Tarri goggles at the silver Val puts on the table, then deliberately looks away and stands, brushing nonexistent dust from her homespun gown. <Sanriel> It was nice to see you tonight, Master Bluestar. I look forward to the next lecture. ::smiling less stiffly this time:: * Bluestar stands to go, and looks at Tarri. "Are you heading back to the house, or has the night just begun for you?" <Bluestar> People look forward to my Intro lecture like they look forward to having their fingernails pulled off, but thank you for trying, Sanriel. It's a nice touch. * Glossaria smiles. "Thanks, love." She stands, and sticks her pen back behind her ear, picking up her books and hugging them like a favorite stuffed animal. <Sanriel> I.. can walk her home, Master Bluestar.. if it's okay with you both? ::looking at Bluestar and Tarri:: <Bluestar> Fine enough by me. Good evening! * Bluestar leaves the Hall. <Glossaria> ::eyes widening:: You teach masochists, Master Bluestar? I wasn't aware the students at the school had such tendencies...::turning red as she glances at Vallel:: <Sanriel> ::grinning:: He's a little scary.. but not as much as I thought. <Tarri> ::blinks at Bluestar:: I don't... ::she smiles at Sanriel a little shakily:: He's a little abrupt. * Michelle shakes her head, "Glossaria, not EVERYTHING is related to your research." <Sanriel> ::nods:: He's like that in the lectures, too. <Vallel> Master Bluestar? Oh yes... just wait til you forget to do your homework one day... <Glossaria> ::to Michelle:: But... he said-- <Sanriel> ::pales:: Umm.. well I kind of have some allowances since I'm still learning how to read and write... <Sanriel> But I'll try to remember that. * Sanriel smiles gratefully at Glossaria <Vallel> ::to Gloss:: Would it be all right if I stayed at the Tower tonight? I dream less, there... * Michelle shakes her head again, "Glossaria, why don't you just take Vallel back to the Tower for the evening. Sanriel could probably use the break from watching Vallel bang his head against the wall." <Elgara'a> ::shakes her head and stands, winding her headcloth over her mouth and putting her hood up again, but not before those looking catch her grin:: Truly, a cesspit of vice, the elders would say... Ma'asalemma, my friends. <Sanriel> Shall we be going, Lady Mandiel? <Sanriel> ::grins at Michelle:: It's nice to do without it once in a while. <Tarri> Yes, I suppose we should go... * Michelle smiles at El, "Is that why you keep coming back?" <Sanriel> ::waves to Elgara'a, grinning:: Good night, Lady. <Glossaria> ::hugging Vallel's arm as she stands:: You're *always* welcome there, you know that. And... do you think we could.... snuggle a little? I've missed you. <Tarri> ::to Gloss:: I hope I'll see you again soon. I must at least go to the... the Tower? ...To thank your mistress for her patronage. <Sanriel> Unless there's anything else you'd like to see? I found a couple of places with really nice views of the city... all the twinkling lights and such. * Vallel grins. "I think I could manage that." He leers at her. * Elgara'a snorts and shakes her head at Michelle, her eyes crinkling in amusement. * Elgara'a walks out with a last wave. * Sanriel blushes a little <Tarri> ::smiles at San:: That... It sounds lovely, but I wouldn't want the Lord and Lady to... to wonder what was keeping me. Maybe another time? <Glossaria> ::nodding eagerly to Tarri:: I'd love to show you the Library. But... my Mistress is away on a voyage, at the moment. I'd be happy to inform you when she returns. <Sanriel> ::smiling back:: I'd be very happy to! * Vallel offers Gloss his arm. <Vallel> Shall we? <Sanriel> ::quietly to Tarri:: She loves that library.. she's dying to show it to me, too. <Vallel> ::glances at Michelle, smiling a little sadly:: Before Michelle throws us all out? <Tarri> ::smiles at Gloss:: A *library*? Oh... please do let me know when I can see it! * Michelle waves a hand at Vallel, "I don't have the strength. I'd just give you the keys and ask you to clean up after yourselves." * Tarri glances guiltily at Michelle. "Oh! We should go..." <Sanriel> ::looks over:: Do you need help? I can come back after I take Lady Mandiel home... <Glossaria> ::smiles:: I'm with you, love. ::taking his arm:: Unless... ::looking up into his face, and speaking more quietly:: Do you still need to... get advice? <Michelle> No, the dishes take care of themselves for the most part. Just need to dim the lamps and lock the door. <Vallel> I'll... I'll stop by and see Mistress Michelle later... my brain is a bit scrambled tonight ::looks at Tarri:: all things considered.<Sanriel> ::escorting Tarri to the door:: Okay then.. have a good night, Lady Michelle. <Tarri> ::smiles at Val:: I'm sorry. But I... I'm glad we met. <Michelle> Goodnight everyone. <Vallel> ::nods at Tarri:: I am too... but that doesn't mean I'm not a little stunned... * Glossaria nods. "Very well. Tarri, you're welcome at the Tower anytime. Don't be afraid to come visit-- if you feel shaky, that's just the wards." <Sanriel> I think it's turned out for the best, too. ::grinning at the others as he opens the door:: * Vallel walks out through the open door. * Glossaria leaves on Vallel's arm. * Tarri steps out, still chatting with the others... * Sanriel follows Tarri, offering Michelle a last wave and a smile as he closes the door * Michelle shoos the dishes into the kitchen, dims the lamps and locks the door. |
