* Vallel is on his way to his room, just finishing his morning classes. He is carrying several books under one arm and a quill pen in the other hand. * Meghan walks into the school glancing around. She is wearing a dark blue dress and her hair is tied back with the same color tie. The silver circlet rests on her head * Vallel opens to door to the room he and Sanriel are sharing and walks in, leaving the door ajar behind him. * Meghan looks around for Val and after not finding him heads over to his room * Meghan stops near his door noticing it slightly open she knocks gently and calls quietly "Vallel?" * Vallel drops his books in a heap on his bed and heads over to his wash basin to wash the ink off his hands. <Vallel> Oh! Hullo, Meg. Come on in. I just got back from class. * Meghan pushes the door open slowly stepping in. She smiles brightly at Val and closes the door behind her "And how was class?" <Vallel> Exhausting. Nothing new there. ::he splashes water on his face, then dunks his whole head into the water basin:: Huf! ::he grabs a towel and begins drying his hair:: * Meghan smiles fondly at him and perches on the edge of his bed. "well you look like you survived" <Vallel> I usually manage. ::he moves over to the bed, pulling a trunk out from under the foot and rummaging through it. He pulls out a white cotton shirt and drops it on the bed:: Give me a minute and we can go to lunch. * Meghan nods watching him * Vallel turns away from Meghan somewhat self-consciously to change his shirt. * Meghan blinks and stands walking to the door "I'll just wait outside" she quickly slips out the door closing it behind her * Vallel changes his shirt, tucks it into his brown pants, and gives his hair a quick combing. He pulls a scrap of parchment out of one book, jots a quick note on it and lays it on Sanriel's cot. <Vallel> Okay, I'm ready. ::he closes the door behind him:: I needed to leave a note for San. We're supposed to do some stuff after he gets out of Reading today. * Meghan turns and smiles at him "Ok. was there somewhere specific you wanted to go for lunch?" <Vallel> Lord Jaret told me about a place, once. Called the Platter or something like that. Said if you ever wanted to go someplace with good food, that was the place. * Meghan looks thoughtful for a moment and then nods <Meghan> Sounds good to me * Vallel offers his arm to Meghan and leads the way. * Meghan places her hand lightly on his arm and follows ::The Platter of Plenty is an old warehouse, well lit and freshly scrubbed inside. The dining room is crowded and the hostess ushers the two to a table near a window looking out over the water. The waitress brings menus, a basket of fresh bread and garlic butter, fried mushrooms, cheese, and butter cookies.:: * Meghan glances around as they enter the restaurant. She sits looking out the window for a few moments enjoying the view ::the menu, written in three different languages, including common, lists several varieties of roast meats, grilled vegetables, raw oysters, and several sauces for each dish. The house drink is mintwater. And the specialty is the wild rice, mushroom and oyster stew.:: * Meghan picks up her menu after a few minutes and looks at it briefly before setting it aside * Vallel orders the stew and a side dish of raw oysters with Cider and Vinegar sauce. * Meghan orders just a small plate of grilled vegetables with a glass of water <Vallel> Not hungry? ::grins at her, buttering a piece of bread:: <Meghan> ::makes a face at him:: depends on the moment. I'm usually hungrier at night, mostly because i usually can't eat anything in the mornings and very little at lunch <Vallel> Oh, yeah, my sister was like that too. Here, have some bread. She said it really helped. * Meghan nods taking a piece "It does help. I am having a hard time eating meat though. I hope it goes away soon" <Vallel> I'm sure it will... By the fifth month, my sister was eating everything that didn't run away fast enough. <Meghan> ::grins:: Well I have a bit to go but I look forward to having people wait on me hand and foot and getting to eat whatever I want * Vallel laughs, spearing a fried mushroom. <Meghan> ::Waves her finger at him:: Don't laugh. I'm thinking about asking Michelle if you can move in with us so I can have you wait on me hand and foot ::she grins teasingly at him:: ::the waitress comes back with a glass of water, a glass of mintwater, and some more bread:: * Vallel nearly spits out his mushroom. * Meghan drinks three quarters of the glass at once <Vallel> I thought that was supposed to be Michelle's job? * Meghan laughs lightly "I'm just teasing you Vallel" she nods "She is even now when i don't ask for it" she smiles softly <Vallel> Well, I'm glad you are in capable hands, Meghan, I really am. ::he butters another piece of bread, topping it with a lump of sharp cheddar cheese:: * Meghan takes a piece of cheese and nods to him "Between her and Kevil coming over to play music for me every day i think I'll be spoiled quickly" <Vallel> Kevil plays very well... ::he licks a bit of garlic butter off his fingers:: <Meghan> ::nods taking another piece of bread:: he is quite amazing <Vallel> He seems quite taken with that Benzine woman. <Meghan> :nods:: I can imagine why. She's very pretty. It must be nice for him to have someone here from his home * Meghan drinks the rest of her water and glances around for the waitress <Vallel> ::the waitress comes back again, one platter on each shoulder. She places a steaming tray of vegetables in front of Meg, then gives Vallel his soup and oysters. She places a fresh glass of water in front of Meg and heads back to the kitchen with the mostly empty glass.:: * Meghan drinks half the glass of water and takes a bite of her vegetables. * Vallel looks out the window, watching a few smaller boats tack into the harbor. <Vallel> Strange to think I live in a harbor city and have never been on a boat yet. <Meghan> No. I used to go sailing in the summers. It is a lot of fun. You should try sometime * Vallel smiles, glancing at Meghan. "Maybe I will." * Meghan smiles back and eats a few more of her vegetables <Vallel> So, when is the baby due? <Meghan> Novemberish I think <Meghan> ::sighs:: I am not looking forward to being pregnant during the summer. My only hope is that it does not get as hot here as I am used to <Vallel> Have you seen Goody Bea? She delivered Mistress Tyl's sister's baby boy last month. <Meghan> ::shakes her head:: I need to though. Hopefully sometime in the next week or so <Meghan> So how are the wedding plans coming? <Vallel> ::shakes his head:: They're coming, I guess. My mother was here this past week. She took Gloss shopping for dress material. <Vallel> I think my job, as the groom, is to stay out of the way and not ask too many questions. <Meghan> ::smiles:: I'm sure you don't mind to much. How was it seeing your mother. Did you enjoy visiting her? <Vallel> ::nods:: She seems a little different... or maybe it's me. She came up to try and make peace between my da' and me. <Meghan> ::nods:: and how did that go? <Vallel> ::shrugs:: I dunno. She got a good dowry for Gloss out of Mistress Zoya. Altho I think it was a trifle she asked for, compared to what Zoya could give. Hopefully that will calm my da'. But I won't really know, until I go home. <Meghan> When are you planning on going? <Vallel> ::shakes his head, eating a few oysters:: I don't know. I'm not really sure I want to see him. Or home. <Meghan> ::nods drinking a bit more of her water:: And Gloss? <Meghan> What does she think of you going back home? <Vallel> We haven't really talked about it. Seeing my mother here, in Marsember... it was... I became aware of how small everything is at home. And I don't want to feel that way... * Meghan watches him closely <Meghan> What do you mean by how small everything is? <Vallel> Well, take for example, the reason I came here in the first place. Here, that's a joke. I burned the barn down and humiliated myself and Tarri. At home, it's this huge deal. Tarri... my parents had to pay a forfeit for her, you know. Because she's considered dishonored, and I won't marry her. It's unlikely that she'll ever get married, if she stays there. * Meghan nods listening to him <Vallel> The forfeit is so she has enough money to live off of, because she'll never have a husband. <Vallel> And you know, I never told her I was sorry. She refused to see me, but I should have tried harder. And I just left, came here... * Meghan nods to him "Do you think it will go away if you run far enough away Vallel?" <Vallel> No. ::he shakes his head:: No, it won't. And I suppose, if I'd stayed at home, I would have eventually married her. <Meghan> But you didn't Val. You came here. Made different choices. Your view of life changed. But obviously there are things unsettled that you need to deal with. Maybe now is the time to deal with them. Now that your view is much larger than theirs, before you enter this new stage in your life with Gloss. <Vallel> I don't know that saying I'm sorry will do her any good now. Perhaps it would ease my mind, but I don't think so. She must hate me for how I ruined her life. <Meghan> But you don't know Vallel. and you owe it not only to yourself but to Tarri as well to make sure she is ok. <Meghan> Let me ask you something... <Vallel> ::nods, looking out the window:: <Meghan> If I had not seen you that night I came back. If I for whatever reason needed to stay in my house, would you have come to see me? Thinking the whole time I was gone that I was upset with you, would you have come to try to apologize or more than that to see if I really was upset with you? <Vallel> No, I had already planned to go see you, when I knew you were back. There is nothing I can do to make up for how I treated you then. Or how I treated Gloss. ::he clenches his fist:: But it doesn't matter. Both of you say that I'm forgiven, that I did nothing wrong. And it doesn't change the fact that there is nothing I can do about it. <Meghan> But you haven't done nothing about it. Far from that Vallel. ::she looks closely at him:: You asked for forgiveness, and we gave it to you. Now maybe it is time that you do the same with Tarri. <Vallel> I'll think about it. ::he finishes off his soup, pushing the bowl away from him:: <Meghan> ::nods:: That's all I ask * Meghan eats the last of her vegetables and drinks the last of her water * Vallel looks at Meghan suddenly. <Vallel> I keep burdening you with my problems. Is there anything I can do for you? <Meghan> ::smiles softly at him:: Just being able to have lunch with you is enough for me. It seems as if we went from seeing each other every moment to me being gone. I have missed you and want to enjoy the time we have now before you get married and You are spending every waking moment with your new wife ::her eyes sparkle teasingly:: <Vallel> Oh, I doubt I'll ever spend every waking moment with my wife. ::he smiles:: She has another love, and that's her library. <Meghan> ::grins:: well I'm sure she will be taking up most of your time, in the beginning anyways. <Vallel> ::shrugs:: It's still five months away... I don't think you need to worry about me not being around for a while yet. <Meghan> ::nods:: I'm glad then <Vallel> ::the waitress comes back, clears off the dirty dishes. "Y'all want dessert? We got lemon cream custard an' fresh strawberry cake an' gingerbread.":: * Meghan shakes her head lightly "I'll just have another glass of water please" * Vallel decides not to get dessert and pays the tab with a few silver pieces. <Meghan> So what do you have planned for the afternoon? <Vallel> Oh, Gloss is very excited about showing Sanriel the Tower library, so we thought we'd do that. <Meghan> ::nods:: Sounds like fun. How is Sanriel getting along? Enjoying school? <Vallel> He seems to be okay, most of the time. He still has uncontrolled visions that he doesn't remember. <Meghan> ::nods:: Are they dreams or while he is awake? <Vallel> He has them all the time, which has made the rest of us pretty quick at catching him, as he has a nasty tendency to fall down. Someone is always with him, at least until he gets his visions under control. He could hurt himself. <Meghan> ::nods:: Well I am looking forward to meeting him. You should bring him by the house sometime. <Vallel> I will. ::offers Meghan his arm:: Shall we go? <Meghan> ::stands and places her hand lightly on his arm:: yes lets ::smiles softly to him:: |
