* Glossaria pauses a moment on the threshold, and knocks timidly on the door. * Meghan gets up from her chair and walks to the door opening it slowly. She smiles seeing Gloss "Hey Gloss, please come in" she stands aside so Gloss can enter * Glossaria nods and enters, meeting Meghan's smile with one of her own as she looks around. "Vallel's not home, is he? I didn't think you'd mind me visiting at this hour." * Meghan shakes her head closing the door behind Gloss and walking with her into the living room offering her a chair "Nope he is out and about. Would you like something to drink?" <Glossaria> Hum... nothing alcoholic, certainly. Tea, perhaps, if it's not too much trouble? <Meghan> Sure. I'll be right back. * Glossaria takes a seat, cocking her head as she studies Meghan. "Have you begun your studies at the School yet?" * Meghan disappears into the kitchen and puts together a tray of tea and comes back with it into the living room and sets it on the table before sitting back down herself * Meghan nods <Meghan> I have just started. It is quite challenging, but I am learning a lot <Glossaria> ::somewhat wistfully:: Has it been hard to get used to? Having psionics all of a sudden, I mean. * Meghan takes a cup of tea for herself once Gloss has hers * Meghan nods <Meghan> It's a bit strange. I am getting used to it though. Seems every day I am learning a new ability * Meghan studies Gloss's face for a moment trying to read her feelings * Glossaria perches on the edge on her chair, holding her teacup on her knee, looking somewhat uncomfortable to be there for all that she's trying to hide it. <Meghan> So tell me how have you been? <Glossaria> ::sighing:: Alright, I suppose, for someone who's been alienating her friends, fighting with her boyfriend, and hunted by a bunch of rich, titled bigots. * Meghan sits back in her chair and takes a sip of her tea <Glossaria> ::screwing up her face, looking miserable:: Meghan, I'm so sorry about... what I said. I didn't mean to bring up painful memories for you. * Meghan reaches out and places her hand on Glosses arm <Meghan> Oh dear it's ok. At that point anything anyone said to me was hard. It was not you. Please don't think on it anymore <Meghan> Did Val explain to you at all what happened? <Glossaria> ::sighing:: Believe me, I don't want to. I'd like to say that I just didn't understand-- and I didn't!-- but ignorance is no excuse, as they say. <Glossaria> Not very much. He told me that you'd gone through... umm... something like that... recently. <Meghan> And I know that you didn't understand. So I am not upset at you and never was. * Meghan nods <Meghan> I can not think of much worse to happen to a person besides death, and i would have welcomed it then <Meghan> So do you understand now why it is not something you really want to have happen? <Glossaria> ::looks somewhat relieved, and puzzled:: But... I'm sorry, you don't have to talk about this if you don't want to and I *promise* I won't take notes, but-- if it's so... so horrible, why do so many of the novels I read treat it as something romantic? <Meghan> I do want to talk about it with you, because I want you to understand. * Meghan thinks a moment <Meghan> The only thing I can think Gloss is that sometime women like to be forced to have sex. It makes it more exciting for them to struggle and say no, when they really do want it to happen. So even thought they are struggling and saying no inside they are enjoying it. <Meghan> But it was not that way with me. I was forced to have sex with this man and didn't want to, not inside or out * Glossaria puts a hand to her mouth for a moment, her eyes looking pained, before she reaches out to take Meghan's hand in hers. <Meghan> Does that help you understand better? * Meghan squeezes Glosses hand and half smiles <Glossaria> ::nods:: But... I still can't see why they would want to romanticize such a horrible thing. I mean, don't the writers even think about the pain of the women it happens to? What if it made people think that *all* women felt the way they wrote it? * Meghan shrugs slightly <Meghan> I really don't know Gloss. I would never write anything like that and would encourage you not to read anymore <Glossaria> ::nodding:: I've been reading romances as escapist literature, but I certainly don't find it very "escapist" any longer. ::thinks:: Perhaps I'll turn to gnomish fiction... that's supposed to be extremely amusing and thought-provoking. * Meghan smiles and sits back <Meghan> That sounds good to me. So tell me why you think you have been alienating your friends? <Glossaria> Well... that was a big part of it, I think. ::smiling hesitantly:: You're the first person who ever took me dress-shopping. I really hoped you weren't mad at me. * Meghan smiles widely <Meghan> I was not. <Meghan> You are one of my closest friends to. Like a sister. I would never be mad at you without talking to you about it and trying to resolve the problem <Glossaria> ::smiles a little wider:: Really? * Meghan nods <Meghan> You very much are <Meghan> So tell me what's going on with Val. Why are you guys arguing? <Glossaria> ::takes a sip of her tea and places the cup back down carefully, playing with the handle for a moment:: <Glossaria> Well... ::suddenly looking very uncomfortable again:: It was a lot of things, all coming together at once, in a way... <Glossaria> To begin with... you know how he's been duelling a lot lately, and how I've been so worried about him? * Meghan nods <Glossaria> Well, he just told me why he's *really* been fighting. It wasn't just because they were insulting my looks. <Glossaria> It turns out there's a whole group of these young nobles who want to kill me. ::hugging herself:: They think I'm evil, that I'm pretending to be human and I don't deserve to live. * Meghan nods <Meghan> And you said at Hall that you were trying to get evidence that they were doing this right? <Glossaria> Well, Vallel knew about this... assassination plot, for lack of a better term, for nearly a month. He only just told *me* about it. * Glossaria nods. <Meghan> HE was simply concerned for you. He has always wanted to keep you as safe as possible <Glossaria> ::looking faintly angry:: But was it safe to not even *tell* me my life was threatened? <Meghan> All I can tell you Gloss is that he was just doing what he thought was safest for you. I agree he should have told you right away and i told him that. But it's in the past now. At least he has told you and you do know now <Glossaria> ::jaw dropping:: You mean... *you* knew, too? He told you? * Meghan is silent for a moment then nods <Meghan> He did tell me, while we were at Xarroch's home. But right after that he told you. <Glossaria> ::looking angry:: I told him I felt he had betrayed my trust. If he felt he couldn't tell me about it, and didn't feel safe telling other people on the Hall, how in Erdian's name did he justify telling you? And XARROCH? XARROCH is TEN times as hotheaded as any other Patron!!! * Meghan nods thinking. trying to weigh her words carefully <Meghan> Gloss I can't tell you that I completely understand Vallel's reasons for telling us before he told you. But I think maybe because we were in Xarroch's home and it was like stepping outside our own lives he felt safe to talk about it. We both encouraged him to tell you right away, which he did. <Meghan> I don't think he felt any safer telling me than telling you. I think it was the opportunity to tell me in a safe place, and had you been there he may have told you at that time <Meghan> No he would have, I am sure <Glossaria> ::presses her lips together:: Do you know what else we fought about, Meghan? <Meghan> ::softly:: No <Glossaria> ::leaning back with a sigh, looking tired:: You. I was beginning to feel jealous of you, because Vallel was spending so much more time with you. Because, with your talents, you two could... share things... that we... ::slipping her hand up to cover her eyes:: I'm sorry. * Meghan nods getting up from her chair and going to kneel in front of Gloss. She pulls the girl's hands into her own and looks up at her. She slowly reaches up and gently touches Gloss's cheek with her hand <Meghan> Gloss you have to know that I would never do anything to come between you and Vallel. I care about you both to much to ever do that. Val and I are very close, I won;t deny that, but the bond that you and he share is so much more than what we have <Meghan> In our own way Vallel and I will share things, and it will be different that what you and he share. You and he share a lifebond that I could never and would never come between. He and I simply share a strong friendship <Glossaria> ::nods:: I think I understand that, when I talk to you, Meghan. But when I talk to him... ::shakes her head:: I don't understand it. I pride myself on being a rational being, but when I'm with him, I just feel... I get so... confused. * Meghan smiles <Meghan> it's because you love him dearest. it's hard to be rational around someone you love <Glossaria> ::sighs:: That explains a great deal about human society, Meghan. Thank you. <Meghan> To be honest with you, if you ever lose that feeling of confusion that is when I would worry about your relationship * Meghan smiles <Meghan> It's not easy dear, I know that. Any time you need to talk please come talk to me. Definitely if you are ever frustrated with me <Glossaria> ::shakes her head with a rueful smile:: It's not you I'm frustrated with. Although, it can be difficult not to be jealous... you're pretty, and you've got this amazing talent, and everyone likes you so much... well, I suppose, except for the ones who were trying to hurt you.... * Vallel opens the door, his arms full with several large sacks. <Glossaria> Speak of the devil. ::cocking her head to one side:: Although that saying would be far more appropriate to Xarroch... * Meghan smiles at Gloss and begins to respond and then stands at Val coming in <Vallel> ::peers over his bags:: Oh, hullo Gloss, dear. I didn't know you were here. * Meghan pulls Gloss close and whispers to her "I would give it all up to have with a man what you have with Val" * Meghan walks over to Val * Vallel puts his bags down on the floor. <Meghan> Need some help kiddo <Vallel> There are a few more bags out in the stable... I'll be right back. ::walks back outside:: * Meghan reaches down to peek in one of the bags <Glossaria> ::smiles warmly at Meghan:: A psionic, and he just doesn't have a clue, does he? * Meghan laughs at Gloss * Glossaria sighs again. <Meghan> Sometimes it takes longer for a man to catch on <Meghan> ::smiles:: He'll get there. Give him time <Glossaria> Hmph. He had three weeks. * Meghan seems disinterested in the bags and walks back into the living room and sits in her chair * Vallel comes back in with a few more bags, puts three of them down on the floor, then takes the fourth one and goes back into his room. <Glossaria> ::heaves a huge sigh and looks at her teacup, sipping again as if it's something expected of her:: MEN. * Meghan calls out "Hi to you to Vallel * Meghan laughs at Gloss <Vallel> ::from his room:: Hello Meghan! <Glossaria> ::shakes her head, sounding surprised:: You're right. He *is* clueless. * Meghan nods * Vallel comes back out of his room, closing the door behind him with a firm click. <Meghan> He'll get better about things though. But he will forever be clueless about something * Jaret strolls up the path to the cottage, a lantern held up in his left hand to light his way. He's dressed in his standard style, with a rapier at his side. He knocks on the cottage door. "Hello? It's Jaret." <Vallel> So... ::walks over and gives Gloss a kiss on the forehead:: Are you two done saying I'm a terrible person yet? * Meghan jumps from her chair and half runs half walks to the door <Glossaria> ::pulling Vallel down and giving him a sound kiss on the lips:: No. I'm only beginning to learn the depths of your terribleness. You're a man, you know. <Vallel> Good evening, Lord Malkier... very nice to see you... ::grins:: The ladies here have been sitting around all night talking about me, so I'm very glad to see you. * Meghan opens it slowly and smile at Jaret "Hello Jaret come in" * Meghan smiles at Val * Jaret snuffs his lantern's flame and enters, doffing his plumed hat and bowing to the room's occupants as he does so. <Meghan> We have been talking about things other than you as well. * Meghan follows Jaret into the living room and offers him a seat picking up the tea tray <Glossaria> Yes. Lest you get a swelled head. <Meghan> I'm just gonna go refill this and get a few more cups <Vallel> ::grins:: I've got some new cheese and fruits from the market, if anyone is hungry... <Glossaria> Hello, Lord Jaret. <Jaret> I assume that there's nothing ill that could be spoken of you and your conduct, Vallel, so it must have been a pleasant experience, indeed. <Meghan> Oh no worry about that Gloss. HE's got one ::winks at Val before disappearing into the kitchen:: <Vallel> ::snorts:: I don't know. Everyone I know has been waxing eloquent on the subject of the depths of my stupidity... ::sighs:: <Glossaria> ::laughing darkly:: If only you knew the half of it, Lord Jaret. * Meghan comes back into the living room with fresh tea and 4 cups and places the tray on the table and takes a seat in her chair <Jaret> I'm sure stupidity is far too harsh a term, Vallel. <Meghan> And we were not talking about your stupidity Val, so hush <Jaret> See, I knew you were overreacting. And thank you very much for the tea, Meghan. <Meghan> So how are you Jaret ::smiles warmly at him:: you are very welcome * Vallel pulls out a bolt of pale yellow silk. <Vallel> What do you think? <Glossaria> ::looking sidelong at Meghan and turning her head slightly as she sips her tea, so Vallel doesn't see her wink at her:: I think it would look very pretty on Meghan, Vallel. <Jaret> I think it's cloth. What do you intend to do with it? <Vallel> Well, ::looks slightly hurt:: I was going to have a gown made for Glossaria with it, but if you don't like it, dear... * Meghan slightly chokes on her tea suppressing a giggle at Glosses comment <Meghan> Now now, don;t torment him Gloss <Jaret> I am... I am well. My trip was a success, and since you intimated that I wasn't stopping by frequently enough, I thought I would try to correct that. <Meghan> I'm glad you did Jaret. I think had you not I would have quickly felt like a third wheel <Glossaria> ::primly, sipping again:: I think he's earned a little torment. * Vallel pulls out some very delicate lace and piles it on top of the bolt of fabric, along with a small roll of a deep gold brocade. * Meghan looks at the fabric and lace <Meghan> It will make a beautiful dress for Gloss Val. You have very nice taste <Vallel> ::frowns and begins rummaging through the bags:: Where's that pattern? Ah, here we go... ::hands the pattern and sketch to Gloss:: <Glossaria> ::opens her eyes a little wider in surprise and glances quickly at Meghan before turning back to Vallel, reaching out a hand to trace the pattern of the lace:: Vallel, it's... it's exquisite. <Jaret> You've been busy, Vallel. Busy and thoughtful. Hardly qualities that would seem to sentence you to some tormentation. * Meghan winks and smiles as Jaret <Meghan> You just don't know all the facts Jaret <Vallel> ::grins at Jaret:: Well, this is sort of an I'm sorry I'm an idiot gift... <Jaret> Very well, Vallel. It is a fine gift, whatever the occasion. <Glossaria> ::smiling at Vallel:: It makes a wonderful idiot gift, love. ::holding the fabric up to her chest, and pulling free a lock of her hair to fall over it:: I... ::glancing at Meghan again:: I think we have a few more things to talk about, when we're alone, but... you should know that you're forgiven. * Meghan smiles softly at Gloss <Vallel> Thank you, dear. ::kisses her hand extravagantly:: <Meghan> Well then on that note I would love some air. Lord Malkier would you honor me in joining me in a walk ::bows to him imitation his style:: <Jaret> Gladly, Lady. ::he stands and offers his arm:: <Glossaria> ::blushes, and looks at him sternly:: As long as you don't *ever* do anything like that again, love. <Glossaria> ::smiles at Meghan and Jaret:: Have a nice walk, you two. * Meghan winks at Gloss <Meghan> Be nice to him dear <Vallel> ::smiles somewhat ruefully:: My aunt told me never to make promises that I wasn't sure I could keep. I don't promise not to make other mistakes, dear. <Glossaria> I'll be nicer than he's earned, at this point. ::smiling at both Vallel and Meghan:: * Jaret leads Meghan out the cottage door. "So, is there anywhere you'd like to go?" <Vallel> Have a nice walk, you two... ::winks at Meghan:: * Meghan walks out with Jaret waving to Val and Gloss as she goes <Vallel> ::grins broadly:: Well, then... let me put some stuff away, then we can talk some more. * Vallel begins putting the groceries away. <Glossaria> ::nods and leans back in her chair, sipping her tea and sharpening her sting:: |
