* Meghan is sitting in a chair by the window reading a book that Tyl gave to her * Jaret knocks on the cottage door, a folded piece of paper in his pocket. "Vallel? Meghan? It's Jaret." * Meghan gets up and walks to the door the book tucked under her arm. She opens the door and smiles at Jaret "Good afternoon Jaret, please come in" she stands aside to let him come into the cottage * Jaret takes off his plumed hat and enters the cottage. He bows to Meghan after he crosses the threshold. "I'm glad to see that you're back. I heard you were abducted, Xarroch was apparently having a devil of a time finding you." * Meghan nods and walks into the main room offering Jaret a seat and sitting back in her chair * Jaret accepts the chair and sits. <Meghan> It took a bit but he did find me eventually. Just in time too. I don't think I would have lasted much longer <Meghan> Can I get you something to drink? <Jaret> Oh, no thank you. I'm fine. * Meghan nods <Meghan> Ok <Jaret> I'm glad that he found you, then. <Jaret> So, to what do I owe the honor of this invitation? <Meghan> Me too ::soft smile:: I had not seen you since I returned and wanted to make sure you knew I was back and mostly ok. I thought you might be concerned <Jaret> Yes, I was. <Meghan> Also it seems like a long time since I have had a chance to talk to you, and wanted to do that <Jaret> I'm glad you're all right. Do you know if... if things are resolved now? Usually when Xarroch involves himself in a situation, things are concluded by the time he's done, but it never hurts to ask. <Meghan> Everything but one ::takes a deep breath:: there is a man left, that I am sure Xarroch would love to simply kill, but is waiting for me to tell him what to do, which is also why i asked you to come * Jaret looks puzzled. "Why me?" <Meghan> Because I need to decide what to do with this man and I wanted to know what you would do <Meghan> Let me explain * Jaret settles into the chair, and waits on Meghan's story. <Meghan> The mage who wanted the stone ::she reaches up and touches the stone lightly:: employed this man. He is the one who abducted me. After the mage had stripped my mind of any knowledge I had about the stone and probably knowledge about many other things he left me to be this man's ::pauses:: well toy doll I guess you could say....... * Meghan's face is expressionless throughout the story <Jaret> ::Jaret's left eyebrow develops a nasty recurring tic:: <Meghan> He raped me, many times. The only thing that kept him from killing me was Xarroch. <Meghan> So the mage is now dead. But this man, well I have no idea what Xarroch has done with him, but he is still alive * Meghan moves her gaze to look outside pain flitting across her face and then is gone * Meghan looks back to Jaret her expression firm once more <Meghan> So now I must decide what to do. As much as don't want to give him another thought Xarroch is waiting for me to decide * Jaret ::through a visible act of will, Jaret gets his eyebrow to stop seizing up:: <Meghan> So I wanted to get your advice on what you think I should do * Jaret is momentarily lost. <Jaret> Well, the first question I should be asking is what do you want to do with him? <Meghan> I just want to know that there is no way that he can do to anyone else what he did to me. But every time I think that he will die because I told Xarroch to kill him ::pauses:: well I don;t feel that I can be responsible for the death of another human <Jaret> Well, you could just tell Xarroch that. He's shown enough magical ability and disgusting creativity that he could make sure that this insect doesn't harm a fly again but lives a very long life. <Meghan> ::nods:: I suppose I could <Meghan> So what would you do? <Jaret> I... I've had certain parts and areas of my conscience whittled away over time, Meghan. I don't like killing people, but... but I sleep at night. I sleep just fine. I'd have killed him as soon as I could have. <Meghan> ::nods:: I understand <Jaret> If you don't want to kill him, I'd talk to Xarroch, and tell him what you want. Then, fulfill your own wish, and never think of him again. <Meghan> I don't know that I could never think of him again. I hope someday I will be able to, but right now it seems like a very far off idea. I still have trouble sleeping at night. * Jaret frowns angrily at the floor, then gets an idea. "Meghan, Sissra's stone. It.. you... you can do some of the things that Tyl'Gaina and Vallel can do, right?" <Meghan> ::nods:: Some. But I have to be very careful because I have all sorts of power I have a hard time controlling <Jaret> Well, maybe you, or you and Vallel and Tyl could take this man and... ::wiggles his fingers around in front of him:: do things to him, so he literally *couldn't* harm anything ever again. If you're not interested in taking revenge on him, that is. * Meghan looks slightly confused <Meghan> I'm not sure I follow you <Jaret> I know Tyl can do things to people's minds. She saved Jelarthna after he had a particularly nasty mental close encounter with an infernal. Maybe you could do something to this man's mind so he couldn't harm anything... somehow. I'm not really sure myself. I don't really understand psionics. <Meghan> ::nods:: It's an idea. I will talk to Tyl about it and see what she says <Jaret> Of course, if you decide on some sort of retribution, no one would fault you. Least of all me. <Meghan> I know. It's not others I am worried about. It is myself. Where I come from a man would not be killed for what he did to me. He might be put in prison, but not put to death <Meghan> So I don't know that it is something I could live with <Jaret> ::softly:: I don't know if it's something anyone can live with until they have to. * Meghan reaches out and places her hand on Jaret's shoulder, she says nothing but he can feel the warmth of comfort in his mind * Jaret smiles up at her. "Thank you. I'm fine, though." * Meghan nods smiling softly "I know that you are." <Jaret> I hope you will be though. No, I know you will be. In time. <Meghan> In time. <Meghan> I'm lucky to have the friends that I do. I wouldn't be able to without them. * Jaret takes Meghan's hand and turns it gently so he can better see her wrist. "What's this? You didn't tie on one and visit the tattoo shops down on Pleasure Island while your judgment was impaired, did you?" ::with an impish grin:: <Meghan> ::smiles:: No I didn't. Val did that for me. To remind me that I have the power to make things however I want them to be, and the friends to support me. <Jaret> He was quite correct. * Meghan pulls her hand slightly towards herself and places her right hand over the tattoo and closes her eyes. After a moment she turns her right hand over and there is a blue rose nestled in her palm. SHe hands it to Jaret <Meghan> Consider it a late Valentine's day present * Jaret takes the rose and tucks it into his lapel. "Thank you very much, Meghan. It's lovely. Is Valentine someone you celebrated on your world?" <Meghan> ::nods:: It is a day that people express their love to one another. Men give flowers, and sometimes women do to. People exchange cards and candy. It's nice for couples. <Jaret> Well, that sounds quite nice. I'll try to remember to get you something next year. * Meghan smiles <Meghan> That would be sweet of you. <Jaret> Did I help you any in deciding what you want to do? <Meghan> ::nods:: you did thank you. I will talk to Xarroch and see what he says. I'll also talk to Tyl and see what she thinks about your idea <Meghan> I appreciate that you came. I hope I didn't keep you from something more important <Jaret> Nothing is more important than talking with my friends... although I do find that my employ has been keeping me from them more than it used to. <Meghan> I have noticed that as well. <Meghan> I must admit I have missed seeing you around. Do you think you will be less busy now? <Jaret> I don't know. Years of my moderately extravagant lifestyle combined with a lack of a desire to be gainfully employed have brought the bottoms of my coffers within sight. Nothing to be concerned about, but I think I still should build up my resources a bit before I burn through them again. <Meghan> I see. I guess I can understand that <Jaret> ::grins:: Good. I have to leave Marsember fairly soon, but I hope to see you on the Hall tomorrow. <Meghan> ::nods:: I'll be there. ::laughs softly:: I always seem to be <Meghan> Where are you going? If you don't mind me being curious. <Jaret> Somewhere somewhat far from here, where the weather is awful, and no one wants to see me. That's all I can say. I'm sorry. <Meghan> It's ok ::smiles:: * Meghan stands suddenly her face bright with an idea ""Don't move I'll be right back" she hurries out of the room * Jaret sits patiently. * Meghan comes back and sits down and hands Jaret a small box. Inside is a smooth black stone laying on a bed of cotton. It has a small M engraved on the face <Jaret> This is lovely, Meghan. Where did you get it, if you don't mind me being curious? <Meghan> Something I have been working on to practice control of my psionic powers. I found the stone at the river and put the M there myself. I was not sure what I was going to do with it but now I know. <Jaret> Well, it's quite elegant. Thank you. * Meghan reaches out and takes the stone holding it in her left hand and reaches out and takes Jaret's hand with her right hand and closes her eyes * Jaret takes Meghan's hand, looking a little perplexed. <Meghan> ::after a moment she opens her eyes again and hands the stone to Jaret. It warms slightly in his hand:: There now you will never be alone and always have a bit of warmth in the bad weather * Jaret touches it with a look of wonder on his face. "This is amazing, Meghan. You didn't have to do this. Thank you." <Meghan> ::smiles:: I didn't do it because I had to. You are very welcome * Jaret tucks the stone inside his jacket. "There, I'll keep it close to me." <Meghan> It's was partly selfish on my part I must admit. The warming will wear off after a wile so you will have to bring it back to me so I can make it work again. * Jaret laughs. "I'll try to get back before that happens." * Meghan nods * Jaret stands. <Jaret> I hope I've helped you in your decision making. If you want to talk again, don't hesitate to let me know." <Meghan> stands as well <Meghan> Thank you so much for coming over. You have helped greatly ::smiles:: * Jaret embraces Meghan. "I'm glad." <Meghan> Please come whenever you have time ::grins:: don't wait for me to ask <Meghan> hugs Jaret back <Jaret> Good afternoon, Meghan. I hope you enjoy the rest of your book. <Meghan> I will thanks. You have a good afternoon as well. I will see you at the Hall * Meghan walks Jaret to the door <Jaret> I hope you do, yes. <Jaret> leaves the cottage, turns around, bows to Meghan, and puts his hat back on his head. With a final wave, he heads off back to Marsember proper. * Meghan watches for a moment as Jaret walks away and with a soft sigh she closes the door to the cottage. |
