* Vallel is sitting by the fire, a large book open in his lap, but he's not looking at it. Instead, he's staring dreamily into the fire * Meghan approaches the cottage and gently pushes the door open and turns back to Xarroch <Meghan> Would you like to come in? * Vallel looks up curiously. <Xarroch> ::looks back in the distance, then turns back and half-smiles and nods:: ... thank you? ::mutters something about odd human customs:: <Vallel> Evening, Meg.. * Meghan looks up and sees Val. Suddenly all the events of the night and more so the past few come rushing back to her and she pails and falls to a heap on the floor just inside the cottage * Vallel leaps to his feet, the heavy book sliding to the floor with a thump. <Vallel> Meg! ::he rushes to her side:: * Xarroch squeezes through the entrance of the cottage, a very tall and bulky demon, scales bristling scales over muscles, horns sprouting from his forehead, a long tail swishing back and forth <Xarroch> She's alright... it's just shock... ::carefully leans down and easily picks up Meghan, looking for a place to put her:: * Vallel gapes at the demon. <Vallel> Er... <Meghan> ::whispers:: Val * Vallel blinks a few times and suddenly he is surrounded by a nimbus green fog. <Vallel> Put her down! <Meghan> ::softly:: Val it's ok <Xarroch> I did not save her to have you clumsily hurt her, boy. Now put away your fog and show me where I can put her. <Vallel> ::looks confused, but indicates the couch near the fire with one hand.:: * Meghan stirs slightly in Xarroch's arms <Vallel> Obviously we have very different definitions of "okay" <Xarroch> ::grins suddenly:: good boy. ::carefully sets Meghan on the couch and crouches down beside her, murmuring something soft, and passing a glowing clawed hand up and down her body:: * Vallel suddenly clutches at his head, gasps, and the fog disappears with a sound like cracking flames. * Xarroch stops and looks up at Vallel, head cocked curiously * Meghan offers Xarroch a small smile and looks over to Val waving him over to sit next to her * Vallel sits down on the chair. <Vallel> Do you think we might fill me in on what exactly is going on here? ::gasps for breath:: <Meghan> Val I was attacked tonight, on the way home <Vallel> By this? ::indicates Xarroch dubiously:: <Xarroch> ::holds the glowing hand out to Vallel, squinting to look closer:: Yes.. and I scared them away... <Meghan> Lucky for me Xarroch was in the area and....::stops and takes a deep breath:: <Vallel> Oh! ::takes a deep breath and lets it out with a sigh:: Auntie's told me about you. <Xarroch> ::barks out a laugh, grinning:: if I wanted her dead, she'd long since be... <Vallel> Sorry. ::shakes Xarroch's hand gingerly:: * Xarroch looks slightly puzzled, taking Vallel's much smaller hand and shaking * Meghan pushes herself up off the couch and steps over to where Val is sitting and sits at his feet reach out and holding his hands <Xarroch> Auntie..? <Xarroch> Who is that? <Vallel> Nacheyla... she says you two went vampire hunting a few times. * Vallel looks down at Meg. <Vallel> So, what happened? Are you hurt? <Xarroch> Ah, Nacheyla! ::grins again:: I didn't realize she was also called "Auntie". * Meghan shakes her head <Meghan> I'm fine. Other than scared. They wanted the stone ::her fingers move absently to touch the stone laying against her chest:: * Xarroch nods in agreement <Vallel> ::blinks:: Oh, right. Aunt means "parent's sister". It's not a name, more like an indicator of our relationship. <Vallel> Well, ::looks dubious again:: it's very valuable, I'm sure. <Xarroch> Oh. ::chuckles:: Family must mean different things here. * Meghan looks up at him a small grin spreads across her lips <Xarroch> Her stone? ::nods again, looking serious:: It's very valuable... and odd. * Vallel gasps suddenly, staring at Meg with awe. <Vallel> Meg? * Xarroch laughs * Meghan smiles squeezing his fingers between hers...she nods to him <Meghan> ::softly:: It's Sissra, in the stone. <Meghan> Or so we think <Vallel> I thought she was dead? And how can you do that? ::looks completely confused:: <Xarroch> She also called for help. She's lucky I heard her. <Meghan> I think it's her spirit in the stone. At this point my best guess is that I always had the ability but not until I got here, to this world, was I able to use the powers. I'm not sure how Sissra is involved but I have a strong feeling it's her <Xarroch> ::raises an eyebrow at Meghan:: So then this is all new to you? This Sissra-stone is a catalyst? <Vallel> ::grins at her, squeezing her hands:: Mistress Tyl will be thrilled. It proves what she's been saying. Everyone has the potential to use psionics. * Meghan nods to Xarroch <Meghan> I think so * Meghan turns back to Val <Meghan> I can't wait to see her <Xarroch> That would be wise... you'll need to learn how to control this. * Meghan nods <Vallel> You may have a hard time getting her attention these days. Between getting the repairs to the school finished, grading our exams, entertaining her boyfriend, desperately wanting to be making plans, and trying to keep Master Jelarthna from running off again, she's a little preoccupied <Xarroch> ::looks straight at Vallel:: And *you* need to learn something about your limits. * Xarroch laughs <Meghan> I wish you had been there Val, when it first happened. It was Jaret ::pauses and takes a breath and then continues:: Who I spoke to first...umm in his mind * Meghan nods <Vallel> ::rolls his eyes:: Well, you frightened me half to death. Why don't you get a nametag or something? <Meghan> Somehow I think she might find a few minutes for me though * Meghan smiles <Meghan> I wanted to surprise you <Vallel> Probably... she's leaking a lot, recently, tho. You might find that a bit distracting <Xarroch> ::lets out a booming laugh that rattles the walls of the cottage:: And if I had worn a nametag, would you have reacted any differently? ::grinning:: No matter the threat, killing yourself with your own power only serves the enemy. <Vallel> That's probably true. On the other hand, I hadn't intended to conjure the shield in the first place. I'd never tried it before, just read about it. <Vallel> So, you're a psionic... Tyl will want you to enroll, of course. It'll be fun. You'll like the classes, they're really interesting. * Meghan nods to Val <Xarroch> ::looks back and forth between Vallel and Meghan:: I will ask Jelarthna to talk with Tyl'gainia. And the two of you should train together, also. Being mated will help. * Meghan looks at Xarroch surprised <Meghan> Mated? <Vallel> Um... I'm sort of betrothed to someone else... * Meghan laughs <Meghan> Good thing Gloss isn't here <Xarroch> Nothing wrong with multiple mates, boy. As long as you have the strength for them. ::grins:: <Vallel> Tell me about it. She has enough problems with you living here... let's not repeat this conversation around her, shall we? * Meghan grins * Xarroch looks slightly puzzled * Vallel chokes * Meghan looks up at Val and laughs hard <Meghan> You think you could handle both of us Val sweetie * Xarroch thwacks Vallel on the back firmly, not quite knocking him from the chair * Vallel straightens back up. <Vallel> I'm quite sure I couldn't. * Meghan giggles to herself as she goes back over to the couch and pulls a blanket around her curling up <Vallel> I think Meg and I can help each other just being friends, really. <Meghan> I would have to agree with that * Meghan nods <Meghan> good friends * Vallel suddenly blushes to the roots of his hair. <Xarroch> Oh? ::looks at Meghan:: She seems a good example of your kind, and with compatible abilities. * Meghan smiles over at Val <Xarroch> ::shrugs and considers the fire for a moment, then back at Val and Meg:: You will both need to be more careful. I know the scent of hunters, and there will be more. That mage is not the sort to give up.. and I do not think he was on his own. <Vallel> Mage? Another one? * Meghan shutters at the thought of what happened earlier that night <Xarroch> ::chuckles:: They're like ::makes a noise like choking a pig:: around here, squash one and three more pop up. <Vallel> So, what happened, exactly? <Xarroch> ::shakes his head, looking to Meghan:: I was not there for the beginning. <Meghan> I was walking home and they came up on me. A group of them. The leader, a mage I guess, said he wanted the stone <Vallel> ::rolls eyes:: Mistress Tyl can talk as much as she wants about tolerance and understanding, but as for myself, I'm beginning to really loath mages. <Meghan> ::mutters to herself:: among other things <Vallel> They'd best not lay a hand on you ::fiercely:: <Meghan> He said he knew how valuable it is <Xarroch> The mage only wanted the stone, Meghan... the others wanted you. He was a hunter, and you were the prey. He was quite focused. * Meghan her fingers move absently to the stone and she holds it gently * Meghan nods to Xarroch <Vallel> Well, that definitely fixes it. You'll have to take classes. You need to know how to defend yourself. * Xarroch considers Vallel after his mage comment, looking thoughtful * Meghan nods to Val <Xarroch> ::chuckles:: You're head's going to fly off, you keep nodding like that. * Meghan smiles at Xarroch <Vallel> So, did you kill them? ::turning to Xarroch:: <Xarroch> But yes... you will need to learn your new psionic abilities and how to handle them. As you've seen from your friend, poor control can hurt you, and potentially those around you. <Xarroch> ::grins:: No... the rabble will never bother Meghan again, no matter the call of their greed. I will reinforce that again later. ::smile turns nasty:: <Meghan> Well I'll try not to do to much to fast <Vallel> ::smiles grimly:: Auntie said you were a good hunter. <Xarroch> The mage escaped... he had his route well-prepared. * Meghan looks to Xarroch <Xarroch> ::nods firmly:: I am an excellent hunter. <Meghan> Seems he was my angel in disguise * Meghan smiles warmly at him <Xarroch> ::laughs:: I won't even take offense at that. ::grins at Meghan:: <Vallel> Good disguise. <Xarroch> ::cocks an eyebrow at Vallel:: Don't be fooled by appearances, or get trapped in your notions. ::chuckles:: It might get you killed one day. <Vallel> It would definitely be handy if people wore nametags. Hello, my name is Cedric, I'm an evil mage and I'm going to kill you now. Have a nice day. <Xarroch> Sometimes it *is* as easy as that... if you know what to look for... * Meghan looks preoccupied * Xarroch laughs <Xarroch> Practicing, little human? ::grinning at Meghan:: * Meghan blinks and grins at Xarroch <Meghan> I'm sorry. It's to easy for me to get caught up in it <Xarroch> ::nods approvingly:: Be careful not to get too lost. <Xarroch> And something to remember.... <Xarroch> about fear... <Xarroch> ::taps the tip of a talon against Meghan's stone:: This, and your new psionics, are things that will make people fear you. You can use that, even against mages more powerful than then one we met earlier. * Meghan nods slightly her face full of wonder <Xarroch> ::nods to Vallel:: That goes for you too. <Vallel> Tell me about it... ::indicates his arm with a rueful grin:: * Xarroch looks at Vallel's arm, and reaches out to touch it, a soft chant causing a glow to spread, the soreness fading <Xarroch> Explain? * Meghan watches Val and Xarroch absently <Vallel> Oh! Thank you! ::he blinks:: I got into a duel after the Assembly Ball with someone making snide comments about Glossaria's appearance. Everyone thinks I should have smoked him, instead of using my sword. * Meghan covers a yawn with her hand <Meghan> She is lucky to have you Val ::grins:: <Vallel> ::smiles:: Funny... it always seems to me like *I* am the lucky one... <Xarroch> ::chuckles:: You should never hold back in a battle... that's another thing that might get you killed <Vallel> I was afraid if I used my abilities that his friends would join in... one man I can handle. Six is a little much. <Xarroch> ::grins:: then you call your friends. ::flexes his talons:: I can hold the other five back for you next time. ::grins:: * Meghan smiles at the two of them <Vallel> ::shakes his head:: I didn't want to kill him. If I'd used my abilities, he'd have probably burned to death. As it is, I ran him through the leg... just a little bit. * Meghan yawns again <Xarroch> Ahh, fire. Good ability. ::grins, then stands:: I will go now and let you get some rest, Meghan. You need it. * Meghan nods <Vallel> Shall I give your regards to Auntie? She'll be sorry she missed you. <Xarroch> ::grins:: Yes. I look forward to hunting with her again. * Meghan stands and stretches a bit <Vallel> ::grins:: she's out chasing a banshee around. <Meghan> I think I do need to get to bed. <Xarroch> ::squeezes out through the doorway, chuckling:: I always hated how they screamed when I struck them down... * Meghan walks behind Xarroch to the door <Vallel> Thanks for rescuing Meghan, Xarroch... I'd miss her if she wasn't around. * Meghan nods <Meghan> He would <Meghan> Goodnight Xarroch <Xarroch> ::nods to Vallel, then to Meghan, grinning again suddenly:: I'll be watching when I can, now. * Vallel sits back down on the couch, pulling up his thick book and idly flipping through it again. * Meghan smiles to him and then waves and slowly closes the door * Xarroch leaps into the air and glades back the way they had come * Meghan goes back to where Val is and smiles at him thoughtfully <Vallel> Goodnight, Meg. Just call me if you need anything tonight... you might have weird dreams. I know I did after my abilities manifested the first time. * Meghan nods <Meghan> I will. Thanks. |
