* Meghan is wearing a dark green long flowy dress with a blue tie around her waist. Her hair is hanging lose around her shoulders. She is walking along a bumpy road about 5 minutes outside the city walls taking in all the new scenes. * Jaret is walking in to Marsember along one of the main roads. He is dressed with customary flamboyancy, and has a pleasant grin on his face as he walks down the road, greeting traveling merchants as they pass by in their wagons. <Jaret> Meghan! Good afternoon! What brings you out this way? * Meghan looks up and smiles seeing Jaret. * Jaret takes off his hat and stops to bow gracefully to Meghan as he gets closer. <Meghan> Hey Jaret. I was just out exploring. Are you headed into the city? * Meghan flushes a bit still smiling. <Jaret> Yes, I am. I had a few trivial errands that needed tending to, but I find friendly conversation to be infinitely more pleasurable than errands. Have you found anything interesting in your exploring? <Meghan> Everything. It is so much different out here than inside the city. Vallel would be mad if he knew I was out here though. I finally found a moment when he was to busy to notice I was gone so I took the opportunity. <Jaret> Vallel? Why would this anger him? You're right in sight of the city, in broad daylight. In any case, you have nothing to fear. ::grins:: I promise to return you to Nacheyla's safely. <Meghan> ::smiles:: I think they ar all a bit over protective of me. In any case they would be happy to know I had you to keep watch over me instead of me being out by myself. That is if I am not keeping you from anything. I don't want to inconvenience you . <Jaret> You're nothing resembling an inconvenience. More of a welcome delight. I don't much fancy doing errands, chores, and the like. Chance meetings with friends are much more welcome. <Meghan> ::nods:: Ok then you have to show me what's out here. <Jaret> Here? Outside the city? I really don't spend too much time out here. I'm much more used to city life. But still... let me look around. * Meghan watches Jaret smiling softly. <Jaret> Well, over that way, by the River Starwater, there's just the marsh. There really isn't anything to see over there. So, ::turning around, and offering his arm:: let's head in the opposite direction. * Meghan slips her arm around his. <Meghan> Lead on. * Jaret walks along the road, carefully avoiding the merchant wagons that rumble towards the city proper. "I'm unfortunately lacking on most of the local legends and stories. Although... Sissra's Well? Yes, that's interesting!" He takes a less-used fork in the road which leads toward a nearby forest. <Jaret> Have you heard the stories of the half-elven princess Sissra? * Meghan walks along with Jaret listening to him as well as taking in all the nature. <Meghan> ::shakes her head:: Nope. <Jaret> Well, let me fill you in! Sissra was a half-elven princess who died about four hundred years ago. Her funeral boat was set into the River Starwater, filled with gems and all odd kinds of magic, and set aflame, and it burned to the waterline. No one's ever found it. That's what most everyone knows. <Meghan> Wow. Do people try to find it? <Jaret> There's another story of the Princess Sissra, a more pleasant one, that says she did a favor for one of the elven gods, I'm not sure which one, my elven theology is somewhat weak, and he created for Sissra a well in these woods. * Meghan nods. <Jaret> People look, but the harbor floor is very muddy, and it's hard going. <Meghan> Is it just a well or is there something special about it? <Jaret> Now, I don't know whether the story of Sissra is true or not, but I do know that there's an old well just inside the forest that is supposed to be Sissra's Well. Legend has that if you make a wish, it may just come true. <Meghan> They say the same about the wells in the world I am from. But it is like that with any well not just one in particular. <Jaret> I don't know if it's special or not. None of my wishes have come true, but I've heard stories of people who've had their wishes come true. I don't know if they're anything other than stories, but it's still a fun little jaunt. * Meghan nods. <Jaret> ::after a little walking, Jaret and Meghan come to the well. It's waist-high stone wall is made of an unusually smooth stone which is cool to the touch. The bottom of the well is only dimly visible, fairly far down.:: * Meghan steps forward and leans over the well wall peering down. <Meghan> Looks just like the ones we have back home ::gently runs her hands along the stone:: not so smooth stone though. * Jaret pulls a pair of silver coins out of his belt pouch. "Here you go." * Jaret hands Meghan one of the coins. * Meghan takes the coin and holds it close to her clasped in both hands. She closes her eyes for a moment and takes a few deep breaths and the looks over and drops the coin into the well. <Jaret> ::a few moments after the splash, a silver glow pulses once deep in the well, and a quiet voice sounds:: "Hello, Meghan. Hello...." * Jaret looks somewhat surprised. * Meghan gasps softly and takes a step back and closer to Jaret. <Jaret> I don't think I've ever seen it do that before. <Meghan> ::softly:: Who is it? * Jaret stands still. Everything is quiet. <Jaret> ::quietly:: Maybe... maybe it was just Sissra, saying hello. <Meghan> I thought she was dead? <Jaret> Well, yes. ::flashes a quick grin:: Death isn't necessarily a career-ending injury in Faerun, or so I've been told. * Meghan nods looking up to Jaret and then back to the well. <Meghan> I wonder why she would say hello to me. * Jaret takes his coin and tosses it into the well. It bounces off the side of the well once, and then splashes into the water at the bottom. He looks down to the bottom of the well, but nothing happens. * Meghan steps up and looks down into the well waiting for the voice again. <Jaret> Well, I'm not sure, but I think that this wasn't Sissra's home, and she came from the elven kingdom of Cormanthyr, to the north. She might just have been saying hello to a fellow traveler. * Meghan nods. <Meghan> Probably so. * Meghan turns to walk away from the well. Takes a quick look over her shoulder back at the well just once and then back the way they came. * Jaret holds his arm out for Meghan as they leave the well. * Meghan slips her arm around his. <Jaret> I hope that wasn't frightening. I've never seen the Well do that before. <Meghan> ::shakes her head:: Not at all. If anything it was interesting ::smiles up at Jaret:: so what's next? <Jaret> Well... like I said, I don't know of much else outside the city walls. The only other point of interest I know of is up ahead, there's a bit of a hill that offers a nice view of the city harbor. It's very... peaceful. <Meghan> Sounds nice. * Jaret smiles. "If you think you will find it pleasing, then let's go see it." He begins to head toward a small hill that is near the shoreline. * Meghan walks along with Jaret looking around as they go. <Meghan> So what d o you do with your days JAret? <Jaret> I fill them with whatever I can find. Mostly idle sorts of activities. I used to teach duelling, but I was spending so much time out of town that I stopped doing that. Lately I've just been reading some, doing a little self-training, trying to keep my skills honed. Not very much, to tell the truth. * Meghan nods. <Jaret> I'm afraid most of the other Patrons are more active and interesting than I am. Although I hope I'm not boring you. <Meghan> Sounds somewhat like my days. I'm not very good with any kind of a sword though. Temire is a much better student than I am. <Meghan> ::smiles:: I think it would be hard to find you boring Jaret. * Jaret grins. "You honor me." <Jaret> ::Meghan and Jaret have finished climbing the hill. The harbor is laid out before them, the sun shining off the rippling waters, trade caravels skimming across the surface, ships pulling out of harbor and pulling in. From a distance, all is quiet, and takes on a peaceful aura:: * Meghan steps forward away from Jaret and takes in the scene she smiles softly her face glowing. <Meghan> Wow. Jaret it's beautiful up here. * Jaret stands, watching the harbor. "Thank you. I come here from time to time, if things seem too hectic, and it helps me keep things in order." <Meghan> ::smiles:: I would probably do the same. Might be a nice place to come and write too. <Jaret> Do you write? I mean, poems or plays or the like? <Meghan> I do like to write. Sometime I write poems. But mostly just stuff in my head. It helps me to keep everything straight. <Jaret> You mean you're keeping memoirs, then? * Meghan tucks her dress under her as she sits on the ground. <Meghan> Something like that. Mostly I write about things that I feel, about what's going on in my life. * Jaret unbuckles the rapier from his belt and sits down next to Meghan. * Meghan smiles over at Jaret. <Meghan> This would definitely be a good place to write. <Meghan> Thank you for bringing me here. <Jaret> That's interesting. When I was younger I read the diaries of famous men and women, published after their deaths, to see their perspective on their lives. <Jaret> You're welcome. I'm glad you like it. ::he smiles back at her:: <Meghan> ::nods:: I don;t know that I would want people to read about me. It's more of a personal thing. <Jaret> Oh, I don't know. You've got plenty of time to become famous still. ::he grins:: * Meghan laughs softly. <Meghan> I hardly think I would ever become famous. * Jaret shrugs. "You never know." <Meghan> True. * Meghan peeks over at Jaret. <Meghan> I have written about you ya know. <Jaret> Really? I'm flattered. I hope it was at least somewhat complimentary. <Meghan> It was that dream I told you about. I was trying to figure it out and writing help me do that. <Jaret> Have you... had that dream again? <Jaret> It helped you figure it out? What do you think it means? <Meghan> I have not had it again. I'm not really sure what it means. I know I need to figure out if I really want to go home or not. I think that it was something prompting me to decide if I have the opportunity to go home would I. * Meghan looks out over the water. * Jaret is quiet for a bit. "I don't know what I would do, if I was given the chance to come home, with no assurances whether I could come back here or not. I've made so many good friends, that I wouldn't want to just leave them. But still, I wonder how my father is doing, after all this time." <Meghan> Would you go if you knew you could somehow come back? <Jaret> If I knew I could come back? Surely. I do miss my father, and it is my homeland, where I grew up. There was another visitor from where I'm from, and she said there was a war on. There are many reasons for me to go home, but to be able to go there and come back here when I wanted, that would be wonderful. * Meghan nods. <Jaret> What about you? If you could go home again, would you? <Meghan> I don't know if I would go. Even if I knew I could come back. I was not very close with anyone in my family. I assume they looked for me for a while after I was gone but now think I am dead and have moved on. <Meghan> ::shrugs:: We were just never close. <Meghan> I don't know though. Something in that dream is telling my not to be so quick to decide. <Jaret> My father raised me alone from the time I was a boy, and I love him dearly. I told him when I left home that I wasn't sure when I would return, and not to worry if I was gone for some time. If I hadn't said so... I would be more concerned about his worries than I am. <Meghan> Actually I think you are telling me not to be so quick to decide. In the dream. * Meghan nods. <Meghan> You are very lucky to have such a good relationship with him. I wish I could have that kind of relationship ::pauses:: with anyone really. * Jaret smiles gently at her. "With your charms, I can't see why you don't have such a relationship already." * Meghan flushes slightly and looks away. <Meghan> I think you need more than charm to carry a good relationship. I have been in a few. Almost got married once. <Jaret> I've had a couple relationships like that. One was quite serious. But... they never quite lasted. <Jaret> Why didn't you get married? <Meghan> Now I am the one to be surprised. <Jaret> Oh? Why? I assure you, my infallibility is merely a clever ruse, but I didn't think it was that successful. <Meghan> ::shrugs:: I think I was mostly scared of committing and getting hurt. I have had enough time where I did get hurt that the one person I found who probably never would have left because i couldn't marry him. <Meghan> I think I have a hard time trusting my future to anyone but myself. <Meghan> I have not yet been able to find a man who is willing to wait me out. <Jaret> I understand that. I'm not sure why things never worked out for me. Part of it... I don't know. I suppose I'm too used to dashing off on a moment's notice to aid a friend or do some work for... my employer to be a properly attentive and doting husband. * Meghan nods. <Meghan> You need to find an independent woman it sounds like. <Meghan> Do you think you will ever get married Jaret? * Jaret laughs. "I don't think independent quite covers it." <Jaret> I honestly don't know. I've always thought I'd eventually settle down, and meet someone to marry, but I don't feel the urge to do so yet." * Meghan nods. <Meghan> Well whoever she is she is a very lucky woman. <Jaret> You're very kind to think so. I think if you asked Lisl to describe notable characteristics of my possible bride, 'cursed' might be a word she'd consider using. ::said with a grin:: * Meghan laughs. <Meghan> why would she say that? <Jaret> Lisl and I are good friends, but she has a... colored opinion of me, I think. It's a point of jest between us, it's not actually something malicious. <Meghan> ::nods:: I could tell that. You seem to have a good relationship with most everyone at the Hall. It must be nice to be so accepted. <Meghan> I think I have a hard time fitting in anywhere. <Jaret> It is a pleasure. It took time, though. I didn't make the best of first impressions. <Meghan> Really? <Jaret> Yes. The way I was raised... women didn't swordfight, or... well, act like men. Quite a few people explained to me in copious detail what they felt were the errors of my ways. <Meghan> ::nods:: Well you can't help what you don't know. I am sure you were acting the only way you knew right. It is very different than what I am used to though I must say. <Meghan> I like it though. <Jaret> I am still surprised from time to time, but for the most part I think I've become accustomed to the way things are done here. And, I like it here, too. <Meghan> Lots of things still surprise me. But I am quickly becoming comfortable. I look forward to one day really feeling like this is home. I think it will. * Jaret smiles warmly. "I'm glad you're feeling more comfortable here. I can't imagine what it must have been like, coming from a world like the one Michelle describes, to this one, where magic is all over." <Meghan> It is definitely different. ::smiles back:: I am constantly amazed. <Meghan> I think that is why I like it so much. Because it is so different than where I am from. <Jaret> Were you not happy where you were? <Meghan> I don't know that it was not happy. ::pauses for a moment:: I just didn't have a lot of reason to be happy. So it was more of not feeling anything. <Jaret> Well, then it sounds like it was definitely a good thing for you to come here. There's no reason to go through life feeling numb. <Meghan> ::nods:: Very true. Part of the reason why I don't think I'd go back. I feel so much more alive here than I ever did at home. <Jaret> Why is that, do you think? Do you think it's related to that allergy that you had when you first came here? <Meghan> ::nods:: Actually I do. Ever since I have gotten past feeling sick I have felt this ::pauses thinking:: I'm not sure. Something in me that is new. It's hard to describe. <Jaret> Really? That's interesting. Have you told Nacheyla or Vallel about this? <Meghan> ::shakes her head:: No I have not talked to anyone about it yet. I don't know if I am ready to discover whatever it is. <Meghan> I'm somewhat scared I guess. <Jaret> I won't breathe a word of it yet, then, but I'd advise you... don't keep everything to yourself. There are people here who would gladly help you out if you felt you needed any help. And there's no need to be afraid of yourself. * Meghan nods resting her chin on her knees. <Meghan> I will tell them soon. * Jaret smiles. "I think they might almost be as excited as you are." <Meghan> Yeah I agree. It will be interesting to see what it is. <Jaret> Speaking of Nacheyla and Vallel... it might not be a bad idea for us to go at least stop in with them, so they know you haven't been carried off by ogres while they weren't looking. * Meghan grins. <Meghan> I think that's a great plan. * Meghan reaches out and hugs Jaret softly "Thanks so much for the company and the tour." * Jaret returns the hug. "It was my pleasure." * Meghan stands and brushes off her dress a bit before taking one last look out over the water. <Meghan> I will definitely have to come back here. * Jaret stands and rebuckles his sword onto his belt. <Jaret> It's a bit rough here if there's a storm coming through, but otherwise... visit any time. Who knows, perhaps we'll run into each other here again. <Meghan> I'd like that. * Jaret offers Meghan his arm. "Ready?" * Meghan nods and slips her arm through his, "Ready." * Jaret leads Meghan back down the road towards Marsember, and Nacheyla and Vallel's friendly (but worried) tender care. |
