* Lisl walks up to the Tower door, Felice by her side, and knocks. She's a little dirty and unkempt, as if she'd spent a rather restless night outdoors.

* Felice is dressed in short shorts and a halter top, her ears twitching on her head and her tail lazily swing around her legs.

* Zoya answers the door herself. Zoya looks like she didn't sleep again - the circles under her eyes are even darker. "Come in, please." She leads the way to a small, comfortable parlor that Lisl has seen before.

* Felice jumps into a chair and scratches behind an ear with one of her feet.

<Lisl> ::nods and steps quickly inside, frowning a little as Felice starts scratching her fleas in public. [grin]:: I picked up a tail...well, another one, I mean. I thought it best to bring her along so we could get this all out at once.

<Felice> So what's been going on? Besides Zoya not getting any sleep.

* Zoya sinks into a chair. "I got about... An hour and a half, last night, I think."

<Felice> You should nap, it's much healthier for you.

* Felice starts licking the back of her right hand.

<Lisl> What *hasn't* been? ::her voice almost a growl:: Marten possessed, Jaret with mental baggage at the least, the cub born already, Marten's ghost wanting to kill the king and Zoya, in that order....will you stop that?

<Zoya> Perhaps. If I could close my eyes without having dreams and nightmares... ::Zoya sighs, then summons a bluish wisp of smoke and sends it off to fetch refreshments.

* Felice blinks at Lisl, "Stop what?"

<Zoya> ::to Lisl:: I'm not sure he's actually after the King, Lisl. He might have someone else in mind. He said it was someone I knew. Of course, he said a lot of nonsense.

<Felice> Who?

<Zoya> Masato. The ghost who possessed Marten.

<Lisl> ::frowning:: If Jaret's the Lord, perhaps he's after Jaret...that's what Gloss seemed to think, at any rate. Though Tyl said something about a Lord Mayor?

* Felice blinks several times, "Masato possess Marten possess Moon Dancer?"

<Lisl> ::shakes her head:: Did anyone find out how Marten got in there in the first place? ::she makes a noise of disgust:: What kind of person would use a body like it was an inn room?

<Zoya> ::shakes her head:: Don't jump to conclusions. We don't know who's invading Jaret, if anyone, or precisely who Masato's after. ::to Felice:: Not quite. I don't think Marten actually possessed 'Dancer."

<Zoya> No, I still don't know how Marten wound up in 'Dancer's body. Those memories are among the set destroyed by Masato.

<Zoya> ::glances at Felice:: Maybe we should start at the beginning.

<Felice> Michelle said something enter Moon Dancer when hit with magic sword in battle.

<Felice> Michelle say no one in Jaret but Jaret.

<Zoya> ::frowns:: I thought her guess about 'Dancer was just a guess. Did she encounter more evidence? ::looks up at Felice:: Could we talk with Michelle?

* Felice smiles, "Sure."

<Felice> ::Felice's grin grows even larger. Then her body begins to fade away, leaving her smiling floating in the air before it to vanishes.::

<Zoya> ::It is indicative of Zoya's exhaustion that she doesn't even show interest at the transformation::

<Lisl> ::shakes her head:: The wolves say differently. They say Two-- I mean, Jaret is *not* the same person who left for the Eastern lands....

<Michelle> Hello. ::Michelle walks from the far corner of the room and sits down in Felice's chair.::

* Michelle is dressed in a white gown trimmed in pink with a white ribbon holding her hair back.

<Zoya> Michelle. Sorry to disturb you, but I thought it might be easier to talk directly with you than have an entire conversation of "Michelle said..."s from Felice. ::smiles tiredly::

<Michelle> I understand Zoya. Felice has trouble speaking seriously anyway.

<Zoya> ::smiles a little wider:: I wasn't going to be the one to say it.

<Lisl> ::flatly:: She's a cat, what do you expect?

<Michelle> Do you remember when I examined Marten for injuries?

<Zoya> ::The bluish wisp returns and settles several plates of fruit and bread on tables at strategic points in the room.::

<Zoya> Yes.

<Michelle> ::To Lisl:: Can you be more specific about what the wolves sense in Jaret. I scanned him repeatedly and couldn't find anything.

<Lisl> ::shrugging:: Bares-His-Teeth couldn't be very specific, but he *knows* there's something different in him. He sounds like him, the smell is the same, but there is something not right about him, and they no longer fully trust him.

<Michelle> No...I'm mistaken. It was when I spoke to Moon Dancer's klaive. The spirits that reside in the klaive claim that something entered Moon Dancer at the moment that they stopped being able to speak with him.

<Michelle> Damn! Sounds just like what the klaive spirits told me about Moon Dancer. Damn and Double Damn!

<Zoya> ::frowns:: But that doesn't say which is the cause, and which the effect. Or whether they are both an effect of a hidden cause, or separate effects of separate causes.

<Lisl> Causes, effects...::shaking her head in annoyance:: What are you getting at?

<Zoya> I'm saying we don't know if 'Dancer being hit with the sword is what caused him to lose contact with the klaive, or if it was the same event that shoved Marten into his mind.

<Zoya> ::sighs:: I'm saying, that while we have some interesting circumstances, we can't draw any conclusions from them, regarding the original damage done to 'Dancer.

* Zoya picks up a piece of bread from the nearest plate and eats it slowly, picking tiny pieces off.

<Michelle> To lose contact with the klaive Moon Dancer would most likely either have to have had his spirit removed, or trapped. I'm working on determining the answer to that, but it's going to be another week or so before I can make the attempt. As for whether it was Marten, Masato, or something else all together that the klaive sensed entering Moon Dancer's body you are quite correct.

<Zoya> All right. Michelle - Jaret suggested you would be the person to speak to on this matter. The wolf cub is born, and there are suspicions to be confirmed and questions to be answered.

<Michelle> Still, I feel it's a fairly safe assumption that Marten and Masato are connected to whatever entered Moon Dancer.

* Lisl narrows her eyes fractionally at mention of the cub.

<Zoya> I don't know if that's true at all. The "possessions" seem to have happened at different times.

<Michelle> Let's hear the suspicions and questions then?

<Zoya> All right. The first suspicion is that the cub contains at least some part of Moon Dancer's spirit. Can you verify that?

<Michelle> If the pack will let me near the cub, yes.

<Lisl> ::speaking up:: I think I can.

<Zoya> ::looks at Lisl:: Yes?

<Lisl> I spoke more with the mother, and got her description of the wolf who mated with her...except for the fur color, it matches 'Dancer to the life...and I've *seen* his fur go white when he's using strong magics.

<Zoya> ::nods:: That lends credence to the suspicion, but not proof. I'd like for Michelle to see the cub and *verify* 'Dancer's spirit within it.

<Lisl> ::grinning wryly:: It figures he'd go for the older woman.

<Zoya> ::smiles at the jest::

<Lisl> ::frowning:: That could be difficult...they're very protective of that cub, and rightly so.

<Zoya> Perhaps you are disappointed? ::she grins briefly::

<Zoya> I understand. It doesn't need to be immediately - right now, I'm trying to figure possibilities.

<Lisl> ::snorts, hastily replacing the cup of water she was about to drink from on the table:: Me? HA! No. ::laughing:: What do you think I am? Besides, for all her age, she's younger than I am.

<Michelle> Yes, but not all of us measure our lives in centuries.

<Zoya> All right. Michelle, I strongly suspect that some part of Moon Dancer's spirit resides yet in his human body. Hints of it have slipped out. Can you - once we get him *back* - verify this, and tell us how much of the spirit is intact?

<Zoya> And could you do so despite the presence of Masato and Marten, or would we need to... evict them, first?

<Lisl> ::mutters something under her breath that sounds like, "Not *my* fault"...::

* Michelle spends several moments weighing options. "Depends on how much they're willing to cooperate and how big a gamble we're willing to make."

<Lisl> ::narrowing her eyes:: I'm not so certain that it's his spirit, Zoya...remember, that's still his body. I think it's more on the level of...instinct.

<Lisl> ::frowning a little:: And if Masato knows or cares so little about MD right now, do we *really* want to call his attention to the possibilities?

<Zoya> ::to Lisl:: Well, that's why it's only a suspicion, Lisl, and why I'm looking for someone who can confirm or deny it. But I don't think an instinct could have drawn the connection between one bard and another. That's a higher order of thought.

<Michelle> Hold on. Fill me in on this Masato character.

<Michelle> Depends. ::Looks at Lisl:: Was Moon Dancer a bard of any sort?

<Lisl> ::grinning a little:: Well, he could carry a howl, but I'm not certain that's what you mean.

<Zoya> ::frowns:: Knowing names is not instinct, Michelle.

<Lisl> He was not, generally...umm...tunefully inclined, but I think some music may have come into play with his magic...not sure, though.

<Michelle> Ever heard of psychometry?

<Michelle> Damned but I wish Moon Dancer hadn't run off before he had a chance to compare how our magics work.

<Zoya> And it doesn't *matter* at the moment. Either the echoes of 'Dancer are instinct, or they are spirit, and it won't make a difference until we get him back anyway. Please.

<Michelle> Zoya's correct.

* Zoya takes a deep breath, then lets it out slowly. "Masato." She closes her eyes, then opens them to look at Michelle. "You told Glossaria a story of... a general, and a lord, and woman they both desired."

<Michelle> Yes.

<Zoya> Masato is one of the men from that story. Current evidence points most strongly to the general.

<Michelle> ::shakes head:: I was afraid of that, but I'd never have imagined that there were three of them in there.

<Zoya> He claims to be caught in a cycle: He lives as a ghost or spirit while the woman and... I *think* the lord, but perhaps the lieutenant who betrayed him - continue to be reborn, over and over.

<Zoya> And at every cycle, just as Masato catches up with the lady, the other shows up and kills her.

<Zoya> At this present cycle, he seems to think *I* am his lady, but he refuses to tell us who he believes to be the other. He's decided he can break the cycle by killing the other first, before the woman - before *I* can be killed.

* Michelle closes her eyes and leans back in her chair, "I hate not knowing the cast. I can follow the plot, but it doesn't explain the memories Jaret received."

<Zoya> I don't know what the man's disposition was during life, but now he is... twisted, insane, has no regard whatsoever for the lives of others, and is utterly ruthless.

<Lisl> ::slowly, carefully:: Zoya...do you think there might be...anything to his assumption of who you are? I mean, how does *he* know?

<Zoya> ::sighs:: Perhaps Jaret, too, has been entered by some sort of ghost. There were, after all, actually *four* players.

* Zoya turns pale eyes on Lisl. "I certainly hope not. I've touched his mind, and I'd die rather than become his bride. ::sighs:: Perhaps that's what the cycle is all about. I don't know if it matters.

<Michelle> The lord killed the lady. The lieutenant killed the general. I could see the lieutenant's memory having the same perspective as the memories Jaret received, but if the lieutenants part of this cycle, then we've got a fourth player running around that we haven't identified yet.

<Zoya> ::nods at Michelle's comment:: Well Masato seems to believe that the person he wants to kill is located in the palace at Suzail.

<Lisl> "Rather die..." ::Frowning:: How certain are we of all these things? It would put a very different light on things if, for example, the lady jumped when she thought the lord couldn't defend her from her husband...

<Michelle> The annoying thing about this kind of karmic cycle is that it isn't actually necessary for all the players to be identical. But they all must be present.

<Zoya> Reports differ on who that might be - Jaret is concerned for the life of the Lord Mayor, there has been circumstantial evidence that he might have targeted Azoun himself, and Masato himself says that I *know* the person, but refuses to name names.

<Michelle> Palace at Suzail?

<Lisl> You know, or *Akiyata* knows? ::smiling without humor:: The man is, understandably, rather confused...

<Michelle> Did Jaret give any reasons for why he's concerned about the Lord Mayor?

<Zoya> ::shakes her head:: No. We only have that much because Tyl pushed her powers to the limit last night to contact him. That's all the information we have.

<Michelle> Damn.

<Zoya> We *do* know that Masato is in Suzail. Marten managed to regain control long enough to pass that along to us.

<Michelle> Lisl, did you ever manage to figure out who Jaret's mysterious employer is?

* Michelle looks flabbergasted at Zoya, "Masato is in Suzail AND controlling Marten over all this distance?"

<Lisl> ::shrugging:: The government. The Harpers. The Easter Bunny. All I know is that it's some supposedly beneficent force.

<Michelle> Zoya, what reasons could Azoun possibly come up with for ordering your execution?

<Lisl> Heh...tarring her with Yb's brush, perhaps?

<Zoya> ::blinks:: Masato is *in* Marten. ::sighs, and tries to be clearer:: Marten is stuck in Moon Dancer's body. Masato destroyed or shoved aside most of Marten's mind in order to make room for himself there. He projected an illusion to the Hall last night for.. I don't know what reason. But while he was there, Marten broke through and spoke to us briefly.

<Michelle> Alright. So Marten and Masato are both in Suzail.

<Zoya> I can't think of anything offensive I've done, lately. ::smiles:: And Azoun is known to be a fair and just king.

<Lisl> ::darkly:: Unless he was allowed.

<Zoya> ::nods:: Yes. And Masato is in control.

<Michelle> What about the Lord Mayor?

<Michelle> Allowed?

<Lisl> By Masato.

<Lisl> To tweak Zoya, perhaps...

<Zoya> ::to Lisl:: I... don't think so. At any rate, both Glossaria and I traced the origins of the spell to Suzail, so that information is correct, at any rate.

<Michelle> Could anyone...War Wizards, rival priests, anyone go to Azoun and convince him that your death was necessary?

<Zoya> ::to Michelle:: Probably. But I don't think they could actually demand more than a trial.

<Lisl> ::frown deepening:: there's so little we KNOW for a fact...and he's been listening on our conversations since he got here, as far as we know. He knows what *I* am...::Lisl breaks off, looking puzzled::

<Zoya> ::to Lisl:: YOU showed Marten what you were. Masato knows everything that Marten knows.

<Zoya> ::frowns:: At least... He *could*. I think. ::sighs::

<Lisl> I know. I thought I could bring Dancer back to his senses. ::bitterly:: Little knowing that he'd been kicked out of his own head already.

<Zoya> Which brings me back to my starting question - Michelle, *if* there are bits of Moon Dancer's spirit remaining in his body, would it be possible for you to transfer them to the wolf cub?

<Lisl> ::pinching the bridge of her nose, drawing one foot up under her to perch in her chair:: There's something there...something...that doesn't fit.

<Michelle> If he can force Marten into submission like that he can extract information from Marten. It is possible however that he can only extract answers to specific questions. Cleverly constructed answers could hide a secret or two from such an investigation. On the other hand it's possible that Masato can read all of Marten's memories directly.

* Lisl looks up sharply, a touch of yellow rimming her eyes. "No one's touching that cub. He's not getting a destiny forced on him just because we don't know what else to do."

<Zoya> ::calmly:: Lisl, if the cub is part of Moon Dancer, surely it would make sense to give it all of its spirit?

<Lisl> ::continuing more slowly:: MD got himself this far completely without our help. I think if he needs us, he'll...let us know, somehow.

* Michelle thinks for several long moments. "I MIGHT be able to. But only if what's left of Moon Dancer's spirit WANTS to enter the cub, and ONLY if the cub actually possesses Moon Dancer's spirit."

<Lisl> In the meantime, I think it would be unwise to try without being *sure* it will neither harm the cub nor accidentally corrupt him with Masato's influence. *HE* needs no help in that.

<Lisl> ::backing off a trifle, and relaxing a bit:: At least let's make sure we have the alpha's permission. ::grinning a little:: It wouldn't help the cub if his entire pack died fighting to defend him from himself...

<Zoya> ::nods:: I understand, Michelle. Thank you. ::to Lisl:: I have no intentions of attempting *anything* that might harm the cub, Lisl. I promise you. I am hoping we will be able to take care of Masato first, and then decide what to do about 'Dancer's spirit and.. and Marten.

<Michelle> Which brings us to the other difficulty. It doesn't sound like Masato would cooperate with me. Which makes the kind of scan I'd need to perform to find any traces of Moon Dancer's spirit impossible.

<Zoya> ::considers:: All right. How's this for a plan of action, then: Lisl - you talk to the pack leader, and see what he says. Assuming his agreement, you can take Michelle to confirm 'Dancer's spirit in the cub.

* Michelle thinks some more. "I can probably exercise Masato. But it could very easily take Marten with him, and if only traces of Moon Dancer are left in the body it could well take those as well."

<Zoya> In the meantime, we will find some way to take care of Masato. Hopefully without killing Marten or Dancer's remaining spirit.

<Zoya> ::nods to Michelle:: Masato is very clever. If we attempt to have him exorcised, he'll leave us nothing but a mindless body.

<Zoya> And then *after* we've taken care of Masato, we'll worry about reuniting Moon Dancer's spirit fragments. All right?

<Lisl> ::nodding:: Very well. I need to speak with him again anyway, to tell him about Masato...::rubbing her forehead tiredly:: There's something nagging at me, and I wish to the nine hells I knew what it was...

<Michelle> If I knew how Marten figures into all of this I might be able to come up with something. The problem is...Karmic cycles have ALOT of momentum behind them. It's virtually impossible to break one without a voluntary sacrifice. Or a moment of enlightenment.

<Michelle> Approach it sideways...When did it first occur to you that something was nagging you?

<Zoya> ::sighs:: I know.

<Lisl> ::thinking:: Um....something about...Masato knows I'm a werewolf...Masato knows because Marten knows...::thinking::

<Zoya> ::thinks for a long moment:: Michelle, do you have a good mental image of that cemetery in Kara Tur? If I brought Tyl to you, would you be able to visualize it well enough for her to get a teleport fix?

* Michelle snaps her fingers, "Zoya, can I borrow your lab. I'm not sure, but I think I might be able to modify one of those mirror spells to show us how many spirits are residing in that body. If I can, we should be able to combine it with a scrying spell and examine them from here without being detected."

* Michelle smiles, "Certainly Zoya...And since psionics work in magically dead zones..."

<Zoya> ::smiles:: Yes. There's a possibility that clerical magic might work as well, so I wouldn't be entirely without defense. ::She smiles secretively::

* Zoya nods. "Do you need the whole lab, or just a mirror to borrow?"

<Lisl> ::Lisl ignores the tech talk, still niggling at the fleeting thought::

<Michelle> I've got a mirror that I've been using, but I'm going to have to research the spell. It would go faster with resource easily at hand. I shouldn't take up too much space though and it should go fairly quickly.

<Lisl> AH! ::face clearing as she lifts her head, smiling triumphantly:: Oh...but...I don't know who said it...::face falling again::

* Zoya nods. "I'll have Glossaria show you to one of the safe labs when we're done here. Ah... Don't wander the halls without me or Glossaria as an escort."

<Michelle> You're not thinking that you're the lady are you Lisl?

<Zoya> ::to Lisl:: What?

<Michelle> Don't worry Zoya. If I need anything I'll just ask the Tower.

<Zoya> ::raises her eyebrows:: I'd better teach you how to call the Staff, then. The Tower itself doesn't like to be interrupted with requests.

* Michelle chuckles, "I suppose after everything I've heard about Erdian I shouldn't be surprised."

<Lisl> What? The lady? ::looking confused for a moment:: Oh! No, no, that wasn't it...

<Zoya> ::smiles::

<Zoya> Lisl, will you at least share what you *do* have with us??

<Lisl> I was thinking about Marten's reaction to my little...revelation...

<Zoya> What about it?

<Lisl> He said something about not going back, not being forced...I can't remember precisely, but something of that nature...

<Zoya> ::eyes widen:: We've forgotten about the brotherhood.

<Lisl> And he *recognized* what I was, and feared it...not just the general, ooh, look, a scary monster, but like he associated me with...something else.

* Michelle cocks her head to one side, "Lisl, was Moon Dancer born that way, or did he become one?"

<Lisl> ::Nodding:: But the problem is, I don't know if that was a reaction of Marten's, or Masato's. It would be interesting, if there were another were mixed up in this...

<Lisl> Born that way, as far as I know.

<Michelle> Damn. It occurred to me that Marten and Moon Dancer might be the same person. That somehow Moon Dancer's power was removed leaving only Marten, who didn't want to have the power back. A natural reaction if he was cursed.

<Zoya> ::shakes her head:: I thought that, too, when Marten first appeared, Michelle. But Marten knows things that 'Dancer could never have known.

<Michelle> True. I had forgotten that fact.

<Zoya> ::smiles crookedly:: Too bad it couldn't have been that simple.

<Lisl> ::Nodding:: And you could be correct, about how 'Dancer's human half feels...always having to keep the Wolf in check. But ::grinning:: I couldn't tell you for sure, having a rather...different setup myself.

<Michelle> You know...The lord was the only person to live through that story. Could he have founded the brotherhood. Could they be perpetuating this cycle by constantly playing the lords part. And furthering their own agenda by misdirecting Masato's rage.

<Michelle> No, too many inconsistencies.

<Lisl> Whoa...let's not get *too* deep into speculation, here...Marten says the Brotherhood fights dictators, in their own way...::grinning a little:: And now we know what that way is.

<Zoya> ::frowns:: I think that's too easy, and too subtle for this lord. But they factor into it somehow, I'll grant. ::sighs:: Another thing for me to investigate in Kara Tur.

<Zoya> ::grins at Michelle:: But if I see any people lurking in that graveyard, I'm keeping my damned distance!

<Lisl> ::raising an eyebrow:: You're going somewhere, Zoya? Not alone, I hope. And if you come back all inscrutable...::eyes sliding to Michelle:: I'll kill you m'self.

<Michelle> A good idea. But if you expect me to visualize it for Tyl'gainia then I'm damn well coming with you. I might not be able to use magic there, but Yohko can still swing a blade.

<Zoya> ::sighs:: Well, I was going to ask Tyl to come. I'll need her to put the image in my mind, anyway. ::to Michelle:: You'll be needed here, I think, and it takes much less energy for me to teleport two than three.

<Zoya> ::to Lisl:: Actually, given that Masato is *here*, Kara Tur might be the safest place for me.

<Zoya> ::frowning:: I don't really want to go. I swore... ::sighs:: But there are too many questions left unanswered, and Kara Tur is the only place with answers.

* Michelle snaps fingers, "I should be able to construct a magic circle that can hold Masato. That would at least buy us sometime. Though it would require going to Suzail and then leading Masato into a trap. And either keeping him there while we work on a solution or entering the circle with him in order to teleport him back here."

<Lisl> Kara Tur? Haunt Central? ::snorts, and drops her head to her chin, thinking:: If you give me a couple of days to arrange it...I can have a guard for you there. For my *own* peace of mind.

<Michelle> That makes two of us Lisl.

<Zoya> ::to Michelle:: Masato is a powerful mage, Michelle. He wrested control of one of my *wild* magic spells and turned it back upon itself, and added his own constructs to it as well. He's not a wild mage, but... ::frowns:: Be careful.

<Zoya> A guard? In Kara Tur? What are you talking about, Lisl?

<Michelle> Damn! He would be a mage as well.

* Michelle turns to Lisl, "Mixed forces or just one group?"

<Zoya> ::looks from Lisl to Michelle and back:: What are you talking about?

<Lisl> ::raising an eyebrow:: "Mixed" forces? A war band, with a shamaness, if that's what you mean.

* Michelle blinks, "Oh...I thought you were discussing other allies of yours."

<Zoya> ::loudly:: EXCUSE ME?

<Zoya> Lisl. What. Are. You. Talking. About?

<Michelle> It's tempting to have Yohko find this brotherhood and attempt to infiltrate it. But Zoya's right. If worst comes to worst I'll be needed here.

<Lisl> ::chuckling:: The "other allies" Michelle mentioned. ::leaning back in my chair and crossing my leg over my knee:: No one ever asked me where I went, those years I was gone...

<Zoya> Besides, it would take Yohko literally *years* to infiltrate it, if what Marten told me about their recruitment tactics are correct.

<Zoya> ::frowns:: So where did you go, Lisl? ::mutters:: Speaking of 'inscrutable's...

* Michelle shrugs, "Not having heard the tale I'll take your word for it."

<Lisl> ::grinning fiercely:: The Hordelands. And I made a few friends. Which, in light of recent events, I've taken pains to contact again...

<Zoya> ::shakes her head:: I don't know anything about the Hordelands.

<Michelle> ::Muttering to herself:: Marten was working as a fletcher. But he taught long sword to the brotherhood. Which might have been katana. He recognized a werewolf...

<Lisl> Next door neighbor to us and Kara Tur...fierce warriors, horselords...and damn fine partiers, I might add.

<Lisl> ::blinking:: Marten *did* teach katana. I sparred with him. ::chuckling a little:: He gave me the *big* sword, the louse.

<Michelle> Why would Marten fear a were would force him back to something...

<Zoya> He implied that the brotherhood had some rather... special allies.

<Michelle> If he taught katana, why seek employment as a fletcher?

<Zoya> Who would he teach katana to here?

<Michelle> True.

<Zoya> Especially since he was trying to prevent drawing attention to himself.

<Lisl> My question was if it was *only* Marten's reaction, or if, perhaps, it was Masato's?

<Zoya> There's no way to tell.

<Michelle> Damned but life would be easier if we had even an idea how Marten figures into all of this.

<Michelle> Unless he's like me.

<Zoya> That seems unlikely in the extreme. My current guess is that 'Dancer was meddling in something and the brotherhood dispatched Marten to kill him. But how they got tangled up like they are... I have no clue.

<Michelle> Has Marten demonstrated any magical aptitude?

<Zoya> ::shakes head:: He's actually very skittish about magic.

<Lisl> Heh...understandably.

<Zoya> ::smiles:: Yes. He also hinted that the brotherhood scorned using magical weapons, but I don't know if that's actually true.

* Michelle pulls her legs up under her gown and closes her eyes.

<Lisl> ::nodding:: Yes, they did.

<Lisl> Marten said it was stupid to rely on magic to aid you...not only could it be countered, but it dulled the edge of real mastery.

<Michelle> And it could be used to track you.

<Lisl> Mmm....true.

* Zoya stands. "Well, if there's no other major points to discuss, I have some things to attend to...?"

<Michelle> Whoever battled Moon Dancer had a great deal of magic at their disposal. Either through the magic sword they were using, or through some other means. The sword itself wasn't evil, but who ever was using it was evil, or at least was using it for an evil intention.

<Lisl> ::nodding:: Aye. I should get back to the wolves. If you can tell me when you're going, Zoya, and give me a contact point-- a visual will do-- I can arrange for some clan members to meet you. Despite the Horde's reputation, they're *very* trustworthy...I'm practically clan to them.

<Michelle> I need to think on this some more. And develop that spell. And check on the cub. Was there anything else I was supposed to be working on?

<Zoya> Then it wasn't Marten. He's not very magically capable.

<Zoya> ::to Lisl:: I'll get in touch with you after I talk to Tyl, if that's all right.

* Zoya mutters something under her breath, and a few moments later Glossaria enters. Zoya asks her to show Michelle how to summon the Staff, and to take her to someplace called the Blue Lab, and to escort her to the door when she's ready to leave, if Zoya isn't home.

<Michelle> I'll need to go home first anyway. I'll need the spellbook if I'm going to make this work.

<Zoya> Ah. That's fine. ::She instructs Glossaria to, essentially, take care of Michelle.::

<Lisl> ::which Glossaria hurries to obey::

* Zoya escorts both Lisl and Michelle to the door, and thanks them warmly for coming.
