* Nacheyla walks down the stairs and unlocks the door. <Nacheyla> Hall's open. * Tyl walks into the Hall, her hand lightly placed on Jelarthna's arm' * Maeli shuffles in slowly, every step a labor. She hobbles across the room carefully, and sinks into one of the chairs near the fire. <Nacheyla> Good Evening, Maeli. May I get you a mug of warm cider? <Maeli> That would be lovely, dear. A nice dollop of brandy in it for my bones, too. * Yb bounces in the door. She's dress in a black pleated skirt, a green button down jacket over a white shirt with a red bow tied at her throat and a blue headband hold her hair back. In one hand she holds her crystal staff and the other arm is cradling a small imp. <Jelarthna> ::smiles and bows slightly to Nacheyla and Maeli:: Good evening, ladies! <Yb> Hi Everyone! <Jelarthna> ::smiles slightly:: Hello, Yb. * Nacheyla pours a mug of cider, adds some brandy to it, then waves it over a bright red panel on the bar top. A moment later, she hands the steaming mug to Maeli. * Yb skips over to the bar and hops onto a stool, setting her staff and the imp on the bar. <Nacheyla> Oh, good evening Yb. Get you a drink? * Maeli takes the mug from Nach, cradling its warmth in her hands. "Thank you, dear." <Nacheyla> Jelarthna? Lady Tyl? Drinks? <Tyl> Rum and ice, please, Nacheyla. <Jelarthna> Just some meade, please. * Tyl sits down at the bar, pushing her cloak away from her face. * Alranis slips in through the door and sidles up to the bar, a small distance from the other patrons. * Nacheyla gets a mug o' meade for Jel and a rum and ice for Tyl. <Yb> I'll have a milk shake. And could I have a bowl of water for Rit here? <Jelarthna> ::nods to Alranis:: Good evening, Alranis. * Nacheyla pours a mug of water, then turns and consults with the taps for a moment. <Nacheyla> Hmmm... I guess this one will do... ::pours a mug full of thick pink liquid and hands it to Yb:: * Alranis nods to Jel <Nacheyla> Sir? Drink? ::To Alranis:: <Yb> Thanks. ::Drinks some of her shake, watching Rit. Rit gets a dejected looks and looks to the mug which is looking for a way out of this predicament.:: <Jelarthna> ::takes a sip of meade:: * Alranis nods. "Weider's beer, if you've got it." <Nacheyla> Surely... :: she turns away, talking softly with the yellow stone which constantly orbits her head:: Here you go. ::she pours him a mug:: * Yb collapses on the bar asleep. Rit takes one look at Yb and bolts for the door turning invisible in the process. * Jelarthna chuckles * Maeli takes a deep drink of her cider. * Alranis rasps, "Thanks." He takes a sip. <Yb> ::bumping and scraping sounds can be heard from the door.:: <Jelarthna> How are you, Maeli? I have not seen you for a while. Still ruling the neighborhood with your glare? ::grins:: * Nacheyla peers at the door. <Nacheyla> Do we want to let it out? ::looks at Jelarthna and gives him a sly wink:: * Tyl takes a sip of her rum. * Glossaria opens the door and walks in, brushing raindrops from her hair. <Jelarthna> ::grins:: That ought to do it. Good evening, Glossaria. * Maeli laughs at Jel's comment, then coughs thickly. When she recovers, she answers, "Oh, aye, pup. What else would I be doing? <Yb> ::The noises stop as something brushes past Glossaria.:: <Jelarthna> ::looks levelly at Maeli:: Anything you wanted to do, I suspect. <Glossaria> ::looking over her shoulder as she steps inside:: Did I let out something I shouldn't have? <Nacheyla> Not at all, dear Glossaria... <Maeli> ::chuckles again:: I like you, boy. <Nacheyla> Can I get you a... ::thinks for a moment:: oh, I forgot where you left off... <Jelarthna> No, Glossaria. I think you just did a good deed, actually. <Jelarthna> ::smiles at Maeli:: Good! <Glossaria> ::smiling:: That's all right, then. Good evening, everybody. Might I have a mulled...white wine, Nacheyla? * Tyl laughs, squeezing against Jelarthna's arm for a brief moment. * Jelarthna smiles back <Nacheyla> ::nods:: Surely. ::she pours some spices into a glass, adds wine, then holds the glass over that red patch. She hands a steaming goblet to Gloss:: <Glossaria> ::noticing the interchange between Jel and Tyl and smiling a trifle:: Many thanks, Nacheyla. ::pointing to the red patch on the bar:: What is that, may I ask? Some sort of spell? * Alranis takes a sip of his beer. <Nacheyla> ::nods:: I had a little problem the last time I tried to heat a glass. ::points to a mug which is, oddly enough, wearing a bandage over it's handle:: Some strange gnome I've never seen before came in earlier this evening and installed this... it somehow heats the inside without heating the outside. * Jelarthna examines the red spot with interest <Jelarthna> Is it magical? <Glossaria> ::Frowns thoughtfully, touching the side of the goblet, and moving her hand down the stem:: Indeed it does...how unusual. ::wry grimace:: Well, I've learned that gnomish magic generally IS. ::scrubbing the stubbly hair on the back of her head:: I'm still trying to make out what that Leonard of Vincegully was all about. STRANGE man. <Nacheyla> I think so... but I'm not sure. <Jelarthna> ::raises an eyebrow at Glossaria:: <Jelarthna> I'd try a detection spell on it, but... ::looks around:: I think I'd need something to protect my eyes. <Glossaria> ::sees his eyebrow and raises both her own:: Yes, M'lord Jelarthna? <Glossaria> ::shakes her head:: It probably would stand out from the background radiation as a negative space, actually. I've found that Gnomish magic doesn't *look* like ordinary magic. <Jelarthna> ::grins a bit and bows to Glossaria:: Oh, nothing. I just thought your last comment was amusing. * Maeli takes a sip of cider, watching the conversations with interest * Tyl looks over at the red spot. <Jelarthna> Nacheyla, can I trouble you for a piece of bread? <Nacheyla> Sure... ::goes into the kitchen:: <Glossaria> What, that I referred to him as "strange," in light of my own origins? Strange is a relative term, after all. Do you know he spent half him life trying to learn to fly by machine, without ever realizing that flight spells have been around for centuries. <Tyl> Maybe the fun was in the building... ::looks a little thoughtful:: <Jelarthna> ::grins at Glossaria:: Not so much you yourself. More using the word strange in this company. <Jelarthna> ::nods:: Yes, curiosity can lead one to many ... interesting deeds. As I think some of us know all too well! <Glossaria> ::grinning a little:: Why, none of you are strange, here. You're all familiar to me, already. <Jelarthna> :::smiles:: Maybe you need to get out more. ::winks:: <Glossaria> It *is* fun to duplicate his machines-- I have a model of his final, working machine in the library. But I've read his journals! He honestly thought he was doing...pardon the pun...ground-breaking work. <Tyl> In a sense, he was. Not everyone can use a flying spell, you know... <Glossaria> ::mock-scowling at Jel:: Well, I *tried* to, but Mistress Zoya wouldn't let me go off to be ravished by Eljorin! <Jelarthna> ::snorts:: I don't think it was the ground that would be breaking. <Jelarthna> Um, ravished? Do you know what that means, Glossaria? <Glossaria> true...but almost everyone could hire a mage. And it would be far less costly than the materials and time to build one of his machines. <Jelarthna> Some people don't like to have to rely on others, though. <Tyl> Only in the short term. Mages charge a lot of money... and depending on how they feel at the moment. Building one flying machine would be very expensive, but then you could rent out seats in the plane to anyone who wanted one. * Nacheyla comes back from the kitchen with a plate of bread, honey and cheese. <Nacheyla> I thought people might be hungry, in addition to wanting to play with the new magical effects on the bar. <Jelarthna> Thank you, Nacheyla. * Jelarthna makes a honey and cheese sandwich and sets it on the red spot. <Glossaria> ::looking slightly insulted:: But of course! ::looking up at the ceiling as she recites from memory:: Ravish: to seize and take away by force. To rape or violate; to force sexual favors upon. To plunder or rob; rapine. To overcome with emotion, as joy or delight. * Yb pops up and wraps an arm around Gloss, "I could ravish you." * Jelarthna picks up the sandwich and checks the warm internals with some interest. <Glossaria> ::looking Yb up and down in businesslike fashion:: Aye, you could. But it wouldn't be half as much fun as it would be with m'lord Eljorin. He even has his own pirate ship! Well, ship, anyway. * Maeli has a sudden coughing fit. <Jelarthna> ::to Glossaria:: Do you really understand what that means, though? <Yb> And how do you know he'd be more fun? <Jelarthna> It's not just some romantic event. * Alranis takes a sip of his beer. <Jelarthna> ::looks with some shock at Yb:: * Nacheyla looks over at Maeli with some concern <Nacheyla> Are you all right, mistress? <Glossaria> ::from within Yb's grasp:: Well, I understand it intellectually-- it's an experience fraught with danger, but viewed as a source of sexual titillation nonetheless by most females, as a metaphor for submission. But ::pouting again:: no, I haven't *experienced* it myself. That's what I was TRYING to do. <Maeli> ::recovers slowly:: Oh, aye, fine. <Jelarthna> Perhaps you should talk to some people who have had similar experiences to get a better idea, then? The reality is not really what it seems. <Glossaria> ::looking back at Yb, nearly cross-eyed from looking her in the face from this close:: Well, you don't have the proper equipage as described in the standard romantic literature. * Jelarthna looks a little shocked again * Yb smiles sweetly at Gloss, "You poor, poor girl. Is that all you know of the matter?" <Jelarthna> ::recovers a bit:: Perhaps this would be a good experience for you., Glossaria.... <Glossaria> ::looking back at Jel:: I have read the literature, after all. I was seeking the experience myself because, (1) as you say, I need to get out more, (2) I found m'lord Eljorin to be a gallant individual, and pleasurable company, and (3) second-hand sources are often biased, not scholarly, and therefore not entirely trustworthy. <Nacheyla> ::to Maeli:: I've got some nice anise seed tea that might help with that cough... if you like. <Glossaria> ::looking back at Yb, a trifle impatiently:: That is, as they say, what I've been saying for half an hour. <Jelarthna> ::shakes head a bit:: Try going to some of the worse neighborhoods and see for yourself. Be sure to take an escort, though. <Maeli> ::smiles at Nach:: That might be nice, dear. Put a lot of honey in it, though. Can't stand the taste of aniseed. * Jelarthna eats his sandwich * Nacheyla makes Maeli a cup of strong tea and adds quite a large dollop of honey to it. <Nacheyla> Here you go. <Nacheyla> ::the room fills with the smell of licorice:: <Glossaria> ::reaching out to snag her goblet, taking a sip of mulled wine:: Hmmm....this is good. I wonder, then, why mulled wine is always described as red-based? * Maeli takes the cup in slightly trembling hands. For a few minutes, she just holds it, then begins to drink it in slow, steady, tiny sips. <Nacheyla> Red's a sweeter wine, most of the time... * Yb continues in a soft voice, "Glossaria, if all you know of love is from books then let me show you what a wonderful thing it truly is." <Glossaria> ::shaking her head:: Now we approach shades of meaning. What I would witness there is more decidedly *rape.* Ravishment has a certain romantic connotation which rape lacks. <Jelarthna> ::shakes head:: That's a misconception. There is nothing romantic or good about rape no matter how it's done. <Glossaria> ::looking at Yb with a touch of disappointment:: I haven't started researching *love* yet. I was merely getting started with sex! * Tyl laughs suddenly. <Tyl> Merely sex... is there truly any such thing? <Yb> Tyl'gainia is correct. <Glossaria> ::shrugs a shoulder, a little awkwardly because of the close embrace:: I've yet to learn that. <Yb> And, to coin a phrase, I believe that's what I've been saying for the past half hour. * Jelarthna blushes a bit and remains silent * Yb lets go of Gloss and looks frantically around the room, "Where's Rit?!?" <Jelarthna> What is a Ritt? * Nacheyla looks up at Yb <Glossaria> ::looking somewhat disappointed at being let go, just when it seemed she was about to Experience something:: Rit? ::frowns:: A dye? <Nacheyla> Oh? He left. I thought maybe he needed to use the outhouse. <Yb> The adorable man I came here...Thank you Nacheyla. ::Yb grabs her staff and races out the door.:: * Nacheyla shakes her head. <Nacheyla> That is one strange woman... :: she says this very very quietly:: <Jelarthna> Well, she was less trouble than usual... <Jelarthna> I think that strange I can agree with! * Jelarthna laughs * Alranis takes a sip of his beer. <Glossaria> ::shakes her head and "tsks" a little:: Very flighty. Perhaps I should hire someone.... * Tyl looks over at Nacheyla and finishes off her rum. <Tyl> You should see her on her worse days... * Glossaria sips her wine. * Jelarthna shudders * Tyl turns to Glossaria... <Tyl> Maybe you should learn about kissing and stuff first... <Jelarthna> That's a good first step. ::grins at Tyl:: * Tyl grins and drops her eyes. She fumbles around for a few minutes, picks up a piece of bread and takes a vicious bite. <Glossaria> ::looking a little disappointed:: I've tried that. I spent a good half-day learning to kiss the magic mirror. <Jelarthna> ::chuckles:: It's really not the same as with another person. Especially one you care about... <Tyl> I on fink ::chews and finishes her bread:: I don't think it's the same thing as kissing a man. <Glossaria> Well, the only other option is to kiss one of the gnomes, and they all seem a trifle leery of me. * Nacheyla laughs <Nacheyla> I wonder why.... <Glossaria> So do I, actually. ::straight-faced:: Romance is *very* confusing. <Jelarthna> ::nods:: But it can be nice. * Jelarthna grins <Glossaria> ::grinning at Jel and Tyl both:: I'm sure you would know. * Jelarthna grins again * Alranis takes a sip of his beer. * Tyl blushes to the roots of her hair <Glossaria> Oh! ::slapping herself of the forehead:: Heavens, I nearly forgot! ::picking up her glass and draining it to the dregs, swaying a trifle in the process:: <Glossaria> I have a batch of glue on the hob...I have to get back before it overcooks. It's been a *terribly* interesting evening, but I have to leave. I'm sorry! <Glossaria> Goodnight, everyone! <Jelarthna> Good evening then, Glossaria. <Nacheyla> ::nods:: Goodnight * Tyl waves to Glossaria <Glossaria> ::waving as she totters out the door, glancing at Al on her way out and muttering something about "Perhaps an arrangement with one of the gentlemen of the Hall..." <Jelarthna> Jaret perhaps? ::smiles:: * Tyl smiles up a bit possessively. <Tyl> Not you, at any rate... <Jelarthna> no, definitely not me. * Jelarthna smiles back. * Alranis takes a sip of his beer. * Tyl makes a strange face. <Tyl> Although Grig might be interested. But I haven't seen him since we stopped seeing each other. <Jelarthna> Who is Grig? * Tyl makes a face and sort of waves her hand around absently <Jelarthna> ::raises an eyebrow:: <Tyl> Someone I knew once. We spent some time together for a while, but... there wasn't anything there... <Jelarthna> Well, I guess he had good taste, but I won't complain that nothing came of it. ::smiles <Tyl> ::shakes her head:: He was human. Even if things had worked out, they wouldn't have worked out. Outliving your loved ones is not something I want to experience... * Nacheyla gets a strange look in her eyes. <Jelarthna> ::nods:: I suppose it would, at that. <Nacheyla> Oh yes... it's very hard. ::turns away from the room and pours herself a beer:: <Jelarthna> I'm sorry, Nacheyla. * Nacheyla drinks her beer rapidly. * Maeli nods sadly and finishes her tea. She follows it with a heavy swallow of still-warm cider. <Nacheyla> It was nothing I didn't know would happen. T'was my choice to let it. * Maeli coughs heavily and wetly a few times, then turns and spits into the fire. She takes a deep breath and lets it out again slowly. "Ah, the aniseed works fast." She smiles at Nach. "Thank you, dear." * Nacheyla turns around, furtively wiping at the corners of her eyes. <Nacheyla> You're welcome, Maeli. One of my granddaughters used to have bad coughs in the winter. The tea helped her too. * Alranis drains his mug, and stands. He ushers the mug back to Nacheyla and heads for the door. <Jelarthna> ::shakes head:: Well, we can't go ending the evening on an down not like that! * Alranis departs as he rasps, "Good even, all." <Maeli> Must remember it, even if it is awful. ::smiles:: * Nacheyla waves to Alranis <Jelarthna> It's good to remember, but in a good way. <Jelarthna> Hmm, I'm not really saying that well, am I? * Jelarthna grins ruefully * Maeli takes another deep drink of cider, rinsing her mouth. <Nacheyla> Ah... ::takes another sip of her beer:: It's hard, staying alive when everyone you know is dead... on the other hand, to live without loving, is not really living at all... <Maeli> Now that's a truth. <Jelarthna> ::nods:: We all need a purpose. And love can certainly be a part of that. ::grins foolishly:: * Maeli rises, slowly. "Well, my bones are warm again - time to head on home." <Jelarthna> ::blinks and looks around:: Oh, it's almost closing time, isn't it? <Nacheyla> Goodnight, Maeli. Here ::reaches behind the bar and pulls at a small tin:: Why don't you take some of the tea with you? * Tyl finishes off her rum and digs around in her pocket * Maeli hands mug and teacup to Nach, and takes the tin. "Why, thank you dear. I'll be sure to return the tin right soon." * Jelarthna pulls out a small pouch and sets it on the counter <Nacheyla> Good night everyone. * Nacheyla scoops up the coins from the bartop <Jelarthna> Good night, Nacheyla. ::smiles at Tyl:: Ready to go? * Maeli pulls her shawl tight around her, clutches her handbag a little tighter, and shuffles out into the night, coughing occasionally. |
