No matter how free-form we try to make the Meade Hall, there are some basic rules that all users must agree to and abide by; otherwise, the Meade Hall would devolve from what we've struggled to make it to just another IRC channel. By joining the #MeadeHall channel, you agree to follow these few rules. The rules are more or less a formality. They very rarely come up, if at all. But, we're posting them here as a 'just so you know.' The RulesThe Hallmaster's word is law. Rule #1: When in doubt, the HM is right. Rule #2: Any questions, see Rule #1. The Hallmasters work to even out the balance of the characters in the Hall, and try to prevent one Patron from ruining what other Patrons may have been working on for quite some time. Clear any actions that affect other characters with either the other character's Patron or with the Hallmaster. Since the Meade Hall is based primarily on story-building, our combat rules consist primarily on agreeing to outcomes. If your character's actions are going to affect other characters, especially in a detrimental way, then you must clear your actions with that character. This is especially true of all magical spells, technological items and deific interventions. If you feel the other Patron is being unreasonable, then you can appeal to the Hallmaster; realize that the Hallmaster will only overrule a Patron's decision about their character in the most extreme cases. Players are expected to be reasonable so it stays this way. Patrons are asked to keep their starting character types and backgrounds limited to those commonly found within the Forgotten Realms. While there are exceptions to this rule, they are usually only granted to registered Patrons. If you want to play a character with an unusual background, race or origin, submit this character to the Hallmasters several days in advance of the session you want to play the character in. Abusive or discourteous behavior is grounds for immediate dismissal from the Meade Hall. Recurring instances of abuse will result in being permanently banned from the Hall. The Meade Hall is about building stories, and that goal is impossible when Patrons do not respect each other's right to interact on the Meade Hall. Don't be a dork. RequestsIn addition to the Rules on the Meade Hall, there are also several requests the Hallmasters make of all Patrons. Create a character. Before you start playing on the Meade Hall, have a character in mind. Let the Hallmasters know not only your character's name, vital statistics and the like, but also be ready with a fully-realized background for your character. We don't need a novel, but we do need you to have an idea of why your character came to Marsember, what happened in their life that brought them to this point, where you're planning on taking the character, and any secrets your character might have. Please keep the Meade Hall conventions in mind when interacting on the Hall. It helps everyone when you try to keep what you type in the same format as everyone else. It makes your actions and comments easier to understand, and it makes for a much more legible transcript. For a list of the IRC conventions used on the Meade Hall, check out the table we made for you. Registration BenefitsOnce you create a character for the Meade Hall and submit it to the Hallmasters, you're eligible for all the benefits enjoyed by the Patrons of the Meade Hall. The primary benefit is access to the Patrons' Site, which includes: Storylines: After a storyline is completed, the Hallmasters try to go back and create pages for that storyline, with links to all the transcripts that the story played out on, the character posts to the main players in the story, as well as any fiction that was written about the story. Full Transcript Archives: Only the 10 most recent transcripts are kept on the public site. All the rest of the transcripts, and the fantastic stories they encompass, are in the Patrons's Site. |
