Vital Statistics
Vallel is eighteen years old, nearly six feet tall, and lanky as tall boys are before they become men. He sometimes seems all legs and arms and elbows. He has black hair, which he currently wears cut very short, with dark green eyes, and a black goatee and mustache. He tends to wear flamboyantly colorful clothing and carries a rapier on one hip. He wears a gold hoop earring in his left ear. Vallel grew up on a sheep farm in the village of Khymrych. His father, an illiterate sheep rancher, married Myralynn, the daughter of a successful artisan. Myralynn, although she loves her husband, sometimes worries that her children won't have the sort of life they want. With those thoughts, she taught her youngest son, Vallel, to read and write, hoping to guide him towards a life with the priesthood. Vallel grew up amongst his aunt Nacheyla's descendants: her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and their children, his parents, and all the brothers and sisters and cousins of her various husbands' families. His extended family regards his aunt with a mixture of admiration, a little fear, and nearly religious awe. He has heard tell and read about her adventures, and despite the fact that his father disapproved, he has always longed for adventure and excitement. However, before he could go out and find adventure, adventure found him in the form of a bright-eyed farm girl. Eager to discuss the differences between men and women, the two met regularly in his uncle's barn. One afternoon in late February, just as the weather was starting to get warm, Tarri and Vallel met in the barn again. After a long winter when they could barely meet and exchange a few kisses, they decided to put an end to their longing. Unfortunately, Vallel's hidden psionic talent picked that moment to burst into existence, and flames! The barn caught fire from an uncontrolled blast of pyrokinetic energy and Vallel and Tarri were forced to flee, leaving their clothing behind. In addition to the embarrassment of being discovered disrobed by most of the village who turned out to fight the fire, Tarri also had to deal with the fact that Vallel's abilities had burned most of the hair off her head. Furious and ashamed, she scorned his apologies. Myralynn, who corresponded regularly with Nacheyla, informed her of Vallel's talents and troubles. Nacheyla, a bartender in Marsember, had recently become aquatinted with Tyl'gainia Nightstorm, the headmistress of the newly formed Psionic Academy. She immediately sent for the boy. Vallel has now been in Marsember for a year, has gained partial control over his psionic ability, and has become engaged to the Tower of Erdian's librarian, Glossaria. |
