Vital Statistics
A male gnome, about 85 years old. He usually wears a drab, grey, woolen cloak that's a darker shade of grey on the inside. His typical outfit consists of a forest-green shirt, dark purple breeches, worn leather boots, and a sky-blue hat with a scarlet feather rakishly shoved into the hatband. His hair falls ungathered to a few inches past his shoulders. His grey beard has grown to his sternum and is beginning to turn white. An unusual feature, his left eye has an odd sheen to it. He wears two pieces of jewelry, a holy symbol of Mystra, the goddess of magic, and a silver chain necklace with a pearl as its focal jewel. His only two visible weapons are both scabbarded on a black belt. Both weapons, a short sword and a dagger, are of exceptional quality and peaceknotted. Occasionally, when he can afford it, he will be found smoking a fine Maztican cigar. Philister grew up with 43 brothers and sisters and hasn't been wholly sane since. He left home with some nominal training in the illusory arts, as well as more shifty skills. Rumors persist that a few years ago he scooted out of Waterdeep with the City Watch nipping at his heels. When asked, Philister only smiles and starts talking about how Cormyr and the free city of Waterdeep lack something called an "extradition treaty", and that the whole matter isn't really as big of an issue as it's obviously been made out to be. Anyway, after decades of adventuring through the Realms, and keeping company with some quite notable characters, Philister has decided that it's time to at least take a break from the raucous life of adventuring and enjoy the more serene virtues of town life. Then he started hanging out at the Meade Hall. In that time he's met and made friends and enemies of an astonishingly wide scope, nearly died a couple of times (so much for serene!), and decided to stick around in Marsember for a while, "just to see what might happen next". He keeps a suite of rooms at the ramshackle Barrelstone Inn, mostly because the atmosphere of the place keeps the wandering solicitors down to a minimum. Philister's speech patterns are more like those of a dwarf than a gnome, and sometimes it seems like his accent changes from one moment to the next. He's seen a fair amount of this side of the Realms, and tends to be somewhat cynical and sarcastic. He tends to judge off of first impressions, leading to some complicated circumstances from time to time. He isn't one to start a fight, but does have a tendency to needle people who get on his nerves. On rare occasions he has lost his temper, and provoked into rather mismatched conflicts. |
