Description:
Ennis is a trim, strongly-built human in his early thirties. He has direct, leaf-green eyes, a square chin, and generally wears his long, straight, black hair in a ponytail. His skin is fair (as is that of many from the Moonshaes) and burns easily in the sun. He has laugh-lines around the corners of his mouth and eyes, and smiles easily. His voice is a soft, pleasant baritone, and his speech carries a faint lilt of brogue from his homeland. Although he generally speaks quietly, he has no difficulty making himself heard when he needs to be (from, say, the far end of a field when he's assisting a mare in a difficult labor). His hands are long-fingered and dextrous, callused as from hard labor, but gentle. He has an athletic build, and looks like he works out daily (unless he gets all his exercise on the job). An experienced fighter might say that he carries himself like someone trained in the fighting arts, except that his body language is far too "open." His back, which is usually covered, bears traces of old whip scars.

Ennis dresses simply in whites, greens, and browns. Although his soft boots are often dusty from travel, the rest of him is always scrupulously clean and neat. (This is not to say that he's a prissy neat-freak; he has no qualms at all about getting dirty or messy. He'll just clean up right away afterwards.) He often smells faintly of herbs, beeswax, leather, and clean hay. His favored clothing is a clean white shirt, brown suede leggings, and a brown leather longcoat with a green suede collar and trim.

History:
Ennis is new to Marsember; he hails originally from the Moonshaes (as anyone who listens to his accent could tell), but is not very forthcoming about his past. He never knew his parents at all, and will offer the last name "Deonachta" (soft "ch" as in "loch," doe-NACH-ta) meaning donation, which is the name given to all orphans like him in the place he grew up) or more jokingly "O'Naviny" (son of nobody) if a name is required of him. He will say to anyone who presses him about it that he had no parents; he grew up in a religious house, but didn't much care for it and left to see more of the world as soon as he reached his majority. And "see the world" he has; Ennis has spent the last decade or so wandering the countryside and back corners of the western half of Faerun, plying the trade of horseleech (a veterinarian for horses), for which he has a rare talent. Although he doesn't like to talk about himself, he loves stories and enjoys hearing improbable tales about far places. Although he likes to bandy words about and doesn't mind a good, hot debate or a friendly insult or three, he professes a strong dislike of violence and will go to sometimes embarrassing lengths to avoid a physical fight. He is a vegetarian by preference (although he has no quarrel with meat-eaters); he claims he never wants to accidentally eat a client.
