Vital Statistics
Elgara'a is about 5' 6" (tremendously tall for her tribe, but she's resigned herself to feeling short in this far-off land; short jokes, however, are still not advisable) and rather lean; she is in very good physical condition. It's obvious that she exercises some day in some manner, eats moderately, and lives rather cleanly. Her hair is raven's-wing black and, unbound, would fall to her hips, but no one has ever seen it unbound; she usually wears it up under a keffiyeh (headcloth, turban-type arrangement) or, occasionally, in a single tight braid down her back. Her skin is dark golden-brown, like the tan of someone who has spent much time under a fierce sun (which she has). Her eyes are large and black, and she sports a rather patrician nose. She bears dark blue (almost black) tattoos on her forehead and both cheeks (little dots forming swirls and wedge-shapes). She wears the clothing of a man of her home country: an aba (a loose-fitting tunic that goes to a little better than mid-thigh), shalwars (extremely loose fitting pants tied with a drawstring at waist and ankles), a jellaba (long woolen robe for this extremely chilly country), camel-hide boots bound up her legs to the knee and, for outdoors, a bournoos (voluminous poncho-like cloak of extremely fine material -- hers is deep blue). She generally dresses in conservative solid bright or pastel tones-- blue, tan, grey, white, cream, pale green, etc. She doesn't care much for red and you will NEVER see her in black. She wears a color-coordinated sash (a looong strip of material wrapped tightly around her waist over her aba) in which she usually sticks her jambiya (a double-edged, curved knife-- pretty wicked-looking). HistoryElgara'a, for those who haven't guessed it yet, is a foreigner to these lands. She hails from Anauroch, the land of the Great Desert, and is a Bedine of the Raz'hadi tribe, originally. She cuts up rather stiff on personal honor, and has not abandoned the gods of her homeland. She mostly keeps to herself and always sits where she can keep an eye on the door. She's in her indeterminate twenties, now, though she looks a little older (early thirties, say-- living in the sun does that to you). She still finds customs here amusing, occasionally, and speaks Common with an accent and occasional phrases of her home language. |
