Birthday: Greengrass, 1382 Description: Cat, as her friends call her, is a vivacious young human woman of 19 years. Her chestnut brown hair-- generally worn in a single plait down her back-- looks like it's never seen a "bad hair day" in its life, her complexion is apples and cream, what extra weight she carries always seems to settle in all in the right places, and her sense of style is such that she can make almost anything she wears look fashionable. She's been wrapping men around her little finger since she was four (starting with her father), and as a woman grown, she's never lacking for an escort (the rumor mill says she goes through about a boyfriend a month). By all rights, she's the sort of girl most women would hate on sight. But Cat is not at all vain about her looks or critical of others', she does not flaunt her family's wealth, and her outgoing manner and friendly, ready smile more often win hearts than inspire jealousy. The unkind would call her a bit of an airhead, but her teachers claim that she is intelligent and has the potential to go far if only she would apply herself more to her studies than to her social life. At the School and about town, she is often seen in the company of her best friend, another human psionic named Prinda. History: Cat is the elder of two daughters born to Wynne and Reynard Suchart, a talented and prosperous pair of jewellers in the merchanting town of Arabel. Her younger sister, Elowys, is six years her junior; the younger brother she should have had was stillborn; he would have been two years younger than Cat. Cat grew up pretty, pampered, and generally well-liked, with not a care in the world until her 14th summer, when she was sent to vacation with her aunt and uncle in the country. The nightmares she had that first week frightened both her and her relatives, for what she saw in her dreams was the truth: she "witnessed" the accident that claimed the life of their only child, ten years before. Cat insisted to her dubious relatives that no one had ever told her of the tragedy. Over time, the family came to believe that Cat had acquired the talents of her maternal great-grandmother Celidwen, well-known within the family as a "sensitive"... and little spoken-of because of her early suicide. Like her grandmother, Cat would sometimes see people who were not there, or have particularly vivid dreams in houses with a "past." She learned to replace a handshake with a wave or a cheerful smile, wary of what she old secrets she might "see" if she touched someone. She grew up a great deal over the next two years. Still, on the surface, life continued much as it had for her until a more distressing and public display of her talent in seeing the past convinced her parents that Cat required help controlling her gift. In the spring of her sixteenth year, they sent her to Mistress Nightstorm's new school for psionics in Marsember. Although she goes home every summer to spend time with her family, she likes the freedom of Marsember and has made many friends at the School. |
